  1. steve, I agree that against the frontal armor, the sabot rounds the syrians have are hopeless. But I saw them firing HE at the sides and rear of an M1. Surely their latest sabot (decent tungsten stuff) must have a chance of penetrating the sides and rear of an M-1. As an example, a T-72 TURMS fired HE at 60 meters in a city fight against the side of an M-1, I find that a bit strange, the round didnt penetrate BTW
  2. I lost this battle also the first few tries, finally won it the american way, profusely using artillery and long range javelin and abrams fire: 400 syrians killed, wonded or missing for 1 wounded on my side hehe
  3. Hi everyone ! I'm looking for magua's normady mod since I'm tired of playing normady battles with "eastern france and german" type of buildings and trees. I looked almost everywhere and I couldn't find it. On der kessel they keep mentioning it but you can't find it on the site. I would very much appreciate if someone would indicate to me a link where I could get the mod ! Thank you in advance ! Patrick
  4. Hello Wild Bill, Seems like you are working on scenarios for CMBB hehehe In The second world war by John Keegan, on page 192, it is mentioned that the south-western front had a high proportion of T-34's in service. The 5th and 6th armies commanded by Kirponos counter-attacked and tried to pinch the spearheads of the panzer breakthrough composed of the Panzer group 1 who was commanded by Kleist on the 28th or 29th of June. So it is very well possible that those dates saw combat involvijng T-34 since those armies had a high proportion of them in service... Hope it helps...
  5. Hi guys ! Hmmm... second to none except the germans (rightfully so.. ) and the americans. Well, I'll take on a sherman with a T-34/85 or a JS-II anytime, not to mention the KV-1. 1941-42 T-34s were very unequal in production quality since they needed them and needed them FAST. Also, the factories were in a state of turmoil because of the emergency move east of the urals mountains. In the later stage of the war, production standards were much better and the T-34/85 was a clearly superior tank to the sherman in firepower, armor and speed/manoeuvrability. Reliability didn't seem to be a problem. The JS-II was a big and powerful tank, it had some problems (so it seems) with armor quality at some time but those problems were rare and were mostly corrected barring the occasionnal bad copy. To sum it all up, most of the german tank divisions were deployed on the east front (with the bulk of their army) and the soviet crushed them in 1943-44-45 so that's must be because their tanks and troops were not so bad heh ? The allies faced much lighter opposition and had all the troubles overcoming it with massive air supremacy on their side. The soviet weren't gods, far from it, but they didn't win the war by chance and solely because of (not that great btw) numerical superiority. I'm waiting for the incoming (but largely innacurate) return fire
  6. Hello everyone, Just want to say that CM gives us an enormous amount of information that real life WWII commanders would only dream about ! Information is one of the key to victory on a modern battlefield, that's why the US army is so focused on developing information sharing tools and improving communication between units. On a WWII battlefield, all you would have is a radio set, some phone lines, a map and some staff to coordinate a battle. You would receive incomplete or erronous reports, lose contact with some units.. all in all a fine mess, even with a battle going well. To make a wise decision you need good information and that was something seriously lacking in WWII. Sometimes you read historical AAR and you wonder how that commander could be so stupid... well.. maybe he didn't have the right information to make the perfect choice.. he made a guess or based his decision on erronous data because he didn't have any other choice and paid the price for it. Intuition is a very important trait in a commander, and intuition comes from real experience and personal culture. Also, you need to keep your head very cool to coordinate a real life battle, that's why battle drills and training are very important. You don't really learn that in combat mission.
  7. I stand corrected.. should have done more test but I wanted to get a reaction and an answer hehe I did the same test yesterday with a Hetzer instead of a jagdpanther.. it showed good results.. the sherman 75mm didn,t have a chance of penetrating the upper hull armor. But put the Sherman on top of 19 levels hill and the hetzer at the bottom of it.. and you get a penetration of the upper hull front plate everytime.. heheh So the angle stuff really work You go from "low" chance of success to "Good" when targetting the hetzer from a high enough hill. Regards, Patrick
  8. Hello guys, I did a little test to see if the angle of attack of a shell would be a factor in computing penetration. I took a jadgpanther and placed it at the bottom of a level 17 steep hill(steep terrain 5meters). I then took a Sherman and placed it at the top of the same hill. The distance between the two tanks was 99 meters. The jadgpanther has 80mm at 55 degrees for upper hull and 60mm at 55 degrees for lower hull. the 75mm on the sherman can penetrate 97mm at 0 degrees at 100 meters. Normally, with such a difference between heights, the sherman should be able to hit the front plate of the panther at near a 0 degree angle and penetrate easily the lower front plate and have a good chance of penetrating the upper hull. Well, not one shot penetrated out of 36 and many were lower hull hits. So far, it shows that the angle at which the shell hits the armor plate is not calculated in the game. So height advantage has a much lower value than it normally should against superior tanks. Feel free to comment. Regards,
  9. hello everyone and hello kwazydog ! I have a question for you.. I have a 800mhz Duron with 256 megs of memory and a GForce 2MX graphic card with 32 megs and when I play VERY-large scenarios and smoke start popping everywhere I notice a very heavy slow-down.. of course i've downloaded all those pretty mods with high resolutions for almost everything on the battlefield.. the way you explain how CMBB works.. does it mean that we'll get the same graphic quality without the slowdown ? Thank you
  10. It took 3 days.. of course I live in Montreal and they ship out of a small town near Burlington, Vermont, which is no more than 80 miles from here
  11. Hi guys, I was wondering.. when I installterrain mods and some building mods the location names on the map disapear... when I reinstall the original bmps it comes back... can anyone help me ? Regards
  12. 28... and getting older everytime i'm facing tigers with stuarts LOL
  13. Hello everyone, I've seen a Free French infantry platoon knock out a Panther near the "Jardins des Tuileries", in the Paris Liberation Scenario with nothing more than patriotism and grenades as weapons. Needless to say, I was damn proud of those gallant frenchmen
  14. Okay, i'll get it straight.. would you prefer to fight an enemy in a sherman or in a jagdpanther ? WHEN USED RIGHT, that tank can really make your day.. it's all a matter of doctrine; the french had the best tanks, they still lost in 6 weeks. Historically, the jagdpanthers had to deal with big bad rockets fired at their top armor from aircraft, artillery strikes that would be equivalent to 30 arty spotters in combat mission terms, mechanical unreliability, lack of spare parts, the list can go on and on.. but it's still a superb vehicule.. but my preferred workhouse as the germans is the Hetzer: cheap, effective, reliable and survivable (not to mention that I have a nice pic of one I saw in Normandy)
  15. Hello guys and girls (maybe, I hope lol). I just played a quick battle against the computer. 5 Pershings attacked a lone Jadgpanther hidden behind a small elevation in front of a wooded patch. The Jagdpanther was hull down. It destroyed all five Pershings at 1000-600 meters while rounds after rounds were bouncing off his upper hull front plate This was an impressive sight !! The Jadgpanther was manned by a regular crew and so were the Pershings. It's a good thing they only built 300 of them ! Regards, Patrick
  16. Hello everyone ! I know this subject have been covered earlier since I used the search button and found some stuff... In one of the post they mentioned a penetration chart for the MG-42 and .50 machien gun against lightly armored vehicules. Unfortunately, when I clicked on the link, it was no longer available... anyone knows where I could get that chart now ? BTW, I knocked out a panzer IVh with a .50 shooting in the rear ! How about that ! LOL Greetings, Patrick
