  1. Just want to say that I am really impressed with the demo and have purchased the game. I nearly overlooked this game completely, the main reason being that I figured there was no way my 3 1/2 year old computer could handle it satisfactorily. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I can run the game really smoothly on the "improved" graphics setting, even with my crappy Geforce 5200 and P IV 2.6. Overall I felt right at home with the interface, I love the graphics, the music and overall presentation of the game. It feels just like classic Combat Mission only the series has finally grown up and matured. I was hooked right from the first minute watching a catastrophic explosion of an enemy bmp close up and watching the sole survivor jump out of the vehicle. Can't wait to play the full game.
  2. You should mention on your front page that this does not include "new releases", as without stating that qualifier, your claim that there is a 30% discount on "all products" is giving a completely misleading message. About 6 months ago in EB games I saw CM:AK on sale for AUS $9.95, that translates approximately to US $7.50, so isn't it about time that the CM series gets a substantial price cut anyway? A pity that the price cut doesn't apply to SC2 as my interest was initially perked, but quickly stifled.
  3. Well, yet more disappointments from battlefront. Why do you guys always insist on shooting your mouths off on promises that you can't deliver on?I thought you would've learnt your lesson by now. You even stickied this thread because you were so confident of SC2 being available in december, and look at it now... Let me guess, a hacker from Germany stole your source code
  4. Don't worry, the website will be up in a week or so. That was the original information...
  5. Yes, they sure are tough to take out. My advice is dont bother using the 1 or 2 hit cards against them and try to save up devastating attack ie out of the sun 3:4. Since every time you hit them they tend to return fire and cause damage back, using the weaker attacking cards will likely get you shot down
  6. The main difference between out of the sun and in my sights is what they can be countered by. In my sights can be countered by several different types of cards whereas out of the sun can ONLY be countered with vertical roll or ace pilot (both fairly rare), hence out of the sun 1:2 is a more precious card to have than in my sights 1:2. This is the kind of thing you only pick up after playing for a while. The right click will tell what the card does and what it responds to, but doesn't really tell you what cards can be played in response to that card, which is equally important to know. The other thing to consider in defense is that most cards that react to attacking cards can be countered if the opponent has that same card, so if you have say 3 barrel roll cards and 1 tight turn, and your opponent plays a in my sights 2: destroyed card, you're better off saving your butt with a barrel roll, because if your opponent counters with barrel roll you still have 2 more up your sleeve. If you try to counter with tight turn and your opponent plays tight turn, having 3 barrel rolls left in your hand isn't going to help. [ August 14, 2005, 05:49 AM: Message edited by: Haohmaru ]
  7. Hi there, I just played a dog fight where I started the game with a 9 point pilot. My opponent who joined the match, joined with a 12 point pilot. I thought there was a restriction stopping higher value pilots joining a match? Does the level have to be past a certain amount where the opponent is blocked from joining? What's the threshold?
  8. One thing I've noticed is that no matter what, it's good to purchase a card for the beginning of the battle, as that gives you one extra card to play with. Even if you only buy a barrel roll card at 1 xp point, it may come in handy during the battle
  9. Thanks for the replies, good to hear about the team chat option. If voice chat could be integrated somehow, that would be great
  10. are there any plans to add voice chat to DIF? It would be really good if it was supported. I reckon also with the ingame chatbox you should have an option of sending a message only to your team mate as well. I don't particularly like using private chat for team messages since it forces you to go out of the game to do so.
  11. Some great ideas there, lets hope some of them make the release. Bumping this post above the "Uhhhh" one!
  12. One thing that I've noticed is that if you use a maneuver card against your opponent's wingman, it seems to have no effect. The game still highlights the card in yellow and allows you to perform the action against the wingman, but does not improve your position against the enemy like it normally would if using it on the opponent's leader. Is there some hidden benefit I am unaware of, a bug, or how it is supposed to be? I find it frustrating if you decide to use your wingman to attack the opponent's wingman and you are dealt with maneuver cards! Haoh
  13. Overall I'm very impressed with the demo, it has been worth the wait. If there is an adequate amount of support for the game after release (new campaigns, skills and planes have been promised) and decent community support, then I reckon it'll be a winner. I also think it would be good if there were some small statistics next to each plane displayed on the map, so you don't have to click between them to see their stats. It could be made as an option to turn on/off for those who don't want too many numbers cluttering the screen. I think that the cards your leader has should always be displayed as well, that way you can keep track of your cards before waiting for your turn to come again. Anyways I urge people to use the feedback link on the website, I've sent a few suggestions and already received replies from one of the programmers of the game.
  14. Yeah Moon, stop sulking about Hara and release the demo already
  15. The website looks good, looking forward to giving the beta demo a go. Since this game is more web-based focussed than other battlefront products, will the full game be available for download? It seems like this game would be ideal for that since I doubt it requires a really large manual to master the game.
  16. Thanks for the reply Moon. I for one look forward to being a guinea pig to test out the server. It's not usual to get a chance to play a demo before a game is released and I'll look forward to giving it a go. Just hope this server works after all the development time put into it
  17. I enjoyed the Gamespy review. It sounds really good how there is pilot dialogue during the matches, that should really add to the atmosphere of the game. I look forward to a game that's short and easy to play and has RPG elements too. It's nice to think after some 10 months of waiting, the wait is drawing to a close . Any info on what the beta demo will include? Will it include a select no. of planes from all or some nations? Will we be able to use the online server to try it out?
  18. Nice info, pity it's basically the same as the preview released about 10 months ago
  19. You should head over to the Down In Flames forum then, now that's a dead forum!
  20. Your legitimate question specifically asks exactly what this game is going to be, not "what do you think this game will be based on?" So I think you are getting legitimate answers to your legitimate question.
  21. I reckon there's a very good chance battlefront will set up their online server for the next combat mission game, and that should make things a lot easier for finding opponents. After all, they are already setting up something of this nature for DIF which is delaying the release significantly, do you think they would go to all this trouble just for one game? I reckon that's going to be a trial run for when the next big game gets released. If they set up their own server with possibilities for instantly joining games and finding opponents, and possibly saving games and returning to them later, at least that will be some compensation for losing pbem, if that happens.
  22. Thanks for the update Moon. Bitten the bullet and gone for preordering DW, I'm sure that will keep me busy until DIF is released. Look forward to the demo.
  23. Hi there, firstly apologies if some of my other posts have sounded negative. I'd like to say that I personally appreciate the effort to cram as much extra stuff as possible into the game before release. It'll be a more complete product at the end. I think myself and a few others are frustrated though because we've been expecting this game to come out since August or September, where it seemed nearly complete. And now Dangerous Waters, which was announced after DIF, has now gone gold before it! Personally I'm hoping to purchase both DW and DIF at the same time to take advantage of reduced shipping costs. Not that that should be any pressure to release DIF! But I'd like to know, can we expect to see DIF soon, or should I just go and get DW now to take my mind off the delay of this game? Haoh

    Demo?

As a player I'd really appreciate the opportunity to play a single player only demo. If all of the holdup is almost entirely related to the online portion of the game, then surely a single player demo can't be totally out of the question? Given that we have been expecting this game to come out for several months now, I think it would be a nice gesture to be able to play something now rather than wait for it all to be finished.
