  1. It was just that company social functions tended to suck. You'd get caught by someone who wanted to talk for two hours about the best type of concrete for constructing coffer dams....
  2. Hell I worked in a huge engineering consultancy and I would say a good number of the top engineering staff figured somewhere along the autism scale. It's what made them good engineers. And some of them were senior partners pulling in seven figures a year.
  3. BTW, what's happened to this forum? Deader than a doornail. Even the forums for current games seem to be pretty dead. Where has everyone gone?
  4. What they all said above. The only problem I had with it was when I moved house and had to change ISP. In order to change my details I had to confirm the changes by responding to an email.....sent to my old ISP account. Which I couldn't access. And there didn't seem to be any way around this apart from me finding a security code from a CD of a game that I bought two years ago and had barely played....
  5. And remember that it is actually spelled "Grosskampenberg".
  6. I don't think we have any members from Christchurch. But anyway, there were no casualties from the tremor. One resident was slightly inconvenienced when his case of DB got broken.
  7. You know, I think they're bearing up OK: Korean People in Grief at Loss of Their Leader Pyongyang, December 20 (KCNA) -- People in North Hwanghae Province of the DPRK are ardently calling leader Kim Jong Il, father of the nation, in bitter sorrow over his sudden demise. In front of the statues of President Kim Il Sung in their residential areas those inhabitants writhed in agony of pain and grief at the great loss. Among them were those who grew to be faithful officials of the Workers' Party of Korea, heroes and deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly under the deep trust and loving care of Kim Jong Il. They also included persons who had honor of having a photo taken with him, war veterans, members of the youth league and the children's union, kindergarteners, servicepersons, producers of electricity and steel and agricultural workers. Indeed, all the Korean people have cast in their lot with him and never thought of their honor, happiness, pride and dignity apart from his loving care. That is why they are lamenting so bitterly over his demise. They cried for dear father, saying in unison: We cannot trust the news of his demise. How happy we were to see the image of the smiling leader on his way of field guidance some days ago. It is really unbelievable. It seems as if the earth was breaking down and sky falling." Ri Hyon Sim (29), a peasant of the Migok Co-op Farm in Sariwon City, said: Now we can hardly stand the sorrow and agony. However, we will overcome this sorrow and pain and display fresh strength and courage. We are afraid of nothing as we have General Kim Jong Un and sure to win.
  8. It was my understanding that although these reports were written, they were never actually utilised in any subsequent fire plan. Naturally wireless comms made the concept redundant a few years afterwards anyway. This link has some of the nuimbers for weight /effectiveness of fire.
  9. JonS is probably your best bet. But I do recall what you are on about and will have a dig in some of my old journals.
  10. I dispute that it's a girl. I know the caption says that, but the short back and sides haircut, the shoes, jumpsuit etc are just not something you would see for a girl back then. Gender roles were pretty clear cut! Eg. look at the girls in the first photo.
  11. The boy with the Davey Crockett hat has got "Future serial killer" written all over him. He even looks like he's digging a grave for a small animal.
  12. Not to mention the .50 cal on a TRIPOD. But faark. It looks cold in those pictures!
  13. I'd also point out that Papua New Guinea has non-idigenous languages as well. English, for one.
  14. If North Korea is monocultural, why is their rating 1 instead of 0?
  15. Be careful. They're watching the grocery store.
  16. Looking for tips on a good book about the C-130 as a present for a neighbour who has done me many good turns this year. He's an ex-RAF and RAAF C-130 pilot and I wondered if anybody had any suggestions? (Even non-book ones.)
  17. I'm more concerned about the Reptiloids on Kettler 9-11.
  18. The best thing about the backpack one is that it is a WMD called.....SADM. Plus you got to love the extraction plan: "The two-person team would place the weapon package in the target location, set the timer, and swim out into the ocean where they would be retrieved by a submarine or a high-speed surface water craft."
  19. How will it work with historical simulation where there was no respect for the GCs anyway? We know that on the OstFront and in the Pacific a red cross didn't mean anything. Likewise any shooter set within the invasion of Iraq is going to inaccurate if civilains aren't killed through application of overwhelming firepower.
  20. Would the salvage prizes cover the situation of rescuing a hijacked ship from Somali pirates?
  21. Read a legal paper published here a couple of years ago that says technically the prize concept is still applicable to the RAN. ie. it has never been specifically un-legislated. Would be interesting if it came up.
  22. Alcohol is a disinfectant! My uncle was in the RN at a time where rum was still a daily ration. If a man didn't want his ration, it was publicly tipped down the sink, to prevent hoarding and corruption by the QM. My uncle and his mate managed to get the drain grate off behind the store and tied a jam tin under the drain pipe to collect these emissions. Also not for the squeamish to drink stuff that's flowed down a few metres of Victorian era drainage!
