  1. i agree. its not cheating in my view. the whole of the map should be considered as part of the battlefield. both players get equal advantage of the map edge. i always protect my flanks and if the map edge is the best way to do that then so be it.
  2. try this url. http://users.erols.com/chare/cm/ thank chris for an excellent database. tx chris.
  3. i have just surrendered so you'll have to practice your demo techniques on someone else. those were my mens arms and legs and we got tired of losing them. LOL........
  4. i use 800x600. i dld the new drivers and directx 8.1 but it didn't help. i found an anti-laising box and checked it with no luck. is there any other fix on the video i can tweek without screwing it up? is there a way i can turn off all the biulding damage. i don't know if that is the speed hound but its got to be something and i don't know what to do next. any other suggestions ?
  5. tx buddy, i'll try all of those and get back to you. fsaa ? how do i check/where can i get it ?
  6. i have a 32mb radeon card on win 98. i already reinstalled the driver from the stock cd. 933mz. 511 sdram. my problem ?? it seems to run smooth looking form the center of the map out, but when i view the center of the map it slows way down. since most battles focus on the center of the map it needs to run faster. is there something i'm missing ? i tried to turn all the features off but that didn't help. any suggestions ?????
  7. The biggest problem i forsee is that being a lazy s... I'm not interested in having to change cd's everytime I want to play a different pbem opponent. it seems a small sacrifice to non/lazy people but i'm playing 8 pbems at once. half are CMBO and the other CMBB demo. What are us lazy folks to do ?????
  8. I second muzzlehead. Nothing in Woodstock, Ga. either.
  9. i cannot believe there aren't more bourbon drinkers !!!! "JACK DANIELS" is the only way to celebrate anything. a nice glass of ice cold jack with a big piece of swiss chocolate or homemade fudge. take a small bite and sip a large sip and by turn two your'e making human wave attacks with sharpshooters!!! what fun that is !!! the only thing that could make it better......well......lets leave that to you're imagination. i think its illegal in most countries.
  10. "Cross of Iron" was an excellent movie ! imo. i enjoyed the book much more. there are very few movies that are better than the book. "Bridge Over The River Kwia" now this movie was much better than the book.
  11. very good abn. sight. i was with 3/187th,101abn/ambl for 5 years in the early 70s. jumpin outta good airplanes and helecopters. what more could ya ask for.
  12. IIRC sharpshooters will not fire on targets closer than 75 meters for fear of losing there concealment. they become very easy targets when exposed.
  13. hey panzerman, i have a question or two if you can answer without giving away any battle intelligence. can you give us an idea points wise about how big these battles might be. 1000/1500, 1500/2000 ? will the battles get larger as we move forward or stay the same size. it might give us an idea of the time we'll need to devote to the tourny. my tourny battles will take priority but i have 8 other pbems going (learn by doing)and i can start playing smaller battles the next time around with my other opponents to give more time to the tourny if need be. this is my first tourny so if these are stupid questions just say so. i'm easy. while i'm here i want to thank you and cpl carrot for running this tourny. i've run a few sports pools and i know it takes alot of time and can be very daunting at times. ted, "FELLOWSHIP OF THE NEWBIE" is a great title. i like to think fellowship is what this forum is all about.
  14. i thought the movie was good but the book is great. there are parts in the book that are not in the movie. iv'e read it more than once and still enjoy every time. its a must read. IMHO.
  15. i'm playing a buddy right now in a pbem who used 2 sherman 105s to lay a small smoke scren. i thought "that won't do him too much good because it was so small". but by next turn his mortar smoke arrived and i became blind. thats the best use of afv smoke i've seen in awhile. 16. i agree that its just part of the game. when an objective is taken it must be defended immediately and effectively for the entire game. if you don't anticipate that your'e enemy may have a reserve force and protect against them, you must pay the price. your'e opponent is not the only one that can rush the flag. i will sometimes defend away from the objective so my opponent will think it may be an easy target for the whole game. then with 2/3 turns to go i'll charge forward in hopes of being there first and waiting. it usually catches them offgaurd even when they see it happening because they know they should have attempted to take that flag earlier in the game. i've also started a defense at the objective to dig in and when the game starts i'll retreat and wait. then i'll have foxholes waiting in my later rush. IMHO its only gamey if one player is unaware of these tactics. most players learn to adapt quickly after theyv'e seen this happen to them.
  17. i found finaly those tables in htm. if anyone is interested go to: http://www.speakeasy.org/~petersve/arty.htm
  18. tx viceroy. unfortunetly i can't open the file. i don't have works or the excell viewer. that might be the same one that was posted before. i'll never know. [ February 26, 2002, 04:02 PM: Message edited by: rhudat ]
  19. awhile back i found an arty table that someone on the forum researched and shared with us. i copied the link but not the text. now the link doesn't work. i tried to search for it for days. it mostly shows how long a barrage will last. how many rounds per turn. smoke duration.target delays, etc. if anyone has a text copy or might know the link i would appreciate the info. tx [ February 26, 2002, 03:26 PM: Message edited by: rhudat ]
  20. go to tips and tactics. then to "antholgy of useful posts". these links helped me alot. i have a pbem buddy without internet connection and i send these posts to him in text files. he's getting alot better. someday he is going to win one.
  21. i've watched the first three combat mission tv episodes and i really enjoyed it. they seem to have some solid operators playing the game. all of the team members (6 per team) are from different backgrounds (seals, swat, force recon...) and have to learn unit cohesion quickly to win. i saw a swat heavy team rescue a p.o.w. in 19 min. without losing a man while a seal and s.f team were completely wiped out because of bad leadership and poor recon. its on the usa network @ 10 pm (est)wed. + sunday. check it out. you might like the show.
  22. 47 last month. gonna play COMBAT MISSION : DESERT STORM when i'm 67. PANZER LEADER was my first war game followed by BLITZKRIEG. still have BLITZKRIEG but it is well used !!!! [ 12-24-2001: Message edited by: rhudat ]</p>
