  1. Steve, If you need someone to try it on a MACBOOK under XP I would be happy to do so Honestly, I think the GMA chip gets kind of a bad rap...I play all CM versions and they look just fine...of course I do have 1 GB of RAM in my MACBOOK and if I got a new one I would get 2 GB...I have determined that XP allocates the full 227MB of RAM to the GMA chip (via the Intel website) which is much better than the supposed 64 MB allocated under OS X... Anyway, I am a realist and wouldn't expect CMSF to look as good on my MACBOOK as my Imac with the graphics card...BUT I have a little trouble personally justifying an extra $500 for a MACBOOK PRO just to have a graphics card for games when the MACBOOK is a nice little machine..and when I need a CMSF fix while traveling, I can live with less eye candy.... Anyway, what do you think? Want an honest review As you can tell, I am REALLY fired up about this game.
  2. Steve. I also wanted to thank you for all the prompt responses. As another poster reminded us, what about the new Cider technology? I have heard and read a bit about it, it if it would minimize the porting requirement, would that make things easier to bring us a Universal Binary version...also haven't heard anything about the issues with the Intel GMA chip on the MACBOOKS...I know it works like a champ for CM on XP..and even does a pretty good job on newer OS X games like AOE III and Imperial Glory...I think it gets a bit of a bad rap becaue it doesn't handle FPS type games well, but for something like CMSF what does your gut tell you? Thanks for all your good work and support for us lonenly Mac Wargamers.
  3. Just my two cents..echoing other folks, the days of the Power PC mac are numbered whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not. I made the move to Intel machines and hated to abandon all the OS9 games I played on my G4 powerbook, but took the plunge knowing the Intel machines were the new commers. I am glad I made the decisions, even though I had to (happily) buy a copy of the Windows CMBB and CMAK to play under Bootcamp. I hope Steve will let us know how CMSF plays under Bootcamp, because I REALLY want to try it out, and will buy it whether I have to play it under Bootcamp or an OS X Intel native version. BTW, Aspyr has already made the decision that their new Star Wars game will be Intell only, so it is really only a matter of time before the PowerPC is no longer really supported. My biggest worry is (sighhhh) will CMSF play (at all, even minimum eye candy) on the MACBOOK with the Intel GMA chipset?
  4. Just a couple of small questions. If I understand the posts so far, you will be able to have CMSF on two computers (desktop and laptop for me) with the license agreement? Also haven't seen any further mention of system requirements as the game starts to firm up. Will a fairly state of the art PC be able to play? Last question...haven't heard anything about the timing for a Mac release..may have to buy the PC version to play under Boot Camp to get my fix, but I could wait a few (very few) months for a Mac release... By the way LOVE the new website and wanted to thank everyone who posted bibliography ideas.
  5. I found this on the Combat Studies Institute website http://usacac.army.mil/CAC/csi/ It is a series of AAR from Iraq and Afghanistan http://usacac.army.mil/CAC/csi/CSI-CaseStudiesVolume%20I.pdf
  6. junk2drive, Thanks, thanks, thanks As I have said in previous posts, just got back into the CM universe with my Mac and Boot Camp.. Finding these is great grunt_GI USNA '87
  7. I have been looking at both the Scenario Depot II and the Proving Grounds but I can't find any Operations for CMBB or CMAK...am I doing something wrong or did those not survive the crash of the original Scenaio Depot? If they did survive can anyone tell me where to find them? Thanks
  8. All, I just received my CMAK/CMBB CDs..thank goodness...installed them no problem...I fired them up just to look...when you first launch the program, it asks you which video option you want..I choose the Intel GMA chipset and both games look great....no issues so far, and I was even able to play the LEROS campaign that choked my PB Ti, well one turn anyway, but the MACBOOK didn't even burp at crunching those scenes. I suspect the reason it looks so good is the Integrated chipset uses the full 224 MB video allotment that the Intel website said the chip can access (I have 1 GB on my Macbook and IMac Intel). SOOOO...I was also able to run the Pacific MOD on CMBO and it looks great...I had the same MOD on my Mac version and some of the water looked a little weird...no problem with Windows version... SO I am back and happy with the CM universe once more...can't wait for CMSF...one question does the Scenario Depot II have operations and how do I find them? Am I missing something...I was able to snag the whole set of CMBO ops and scenarios from the CMMODS website...anything like that for CMAK?
  9. Howdy, Just a few thoughts on the issue of MacIntel computers, Bootcamp and CMBO I have both an Intel Imac and a Macbook white with the integrated chipset A few issues with Bootcamp but nothing I couldn't figure out with some help from the Apple Discussion Boards. I bought a copy of XP Home which is okay and a little cheaper than XP Professional..but it's a typical MS product which assumes you're an idiot, so it is pretty stupid simple. I have only tried CMBO since I have to reorder CMBB and CMAK for WIN/XP, but I have tried the DEMOs for both. On both computers they look fine...obviously a little better on the IMAC but very nice and certainly playable on my MACBOOK I haven't played a lot yet..mostly just checking to see if it would load and how it looked, but I played a couple of turns on the tutoral just to see if it worked and everything seems okay. Note that it appears that XP allocates the full 224MB allowed for video memory for the integrated chipset, much more than the 64MB OS X uses, so it looks pretty good even without a dedicated video card End result.Bootcamp and XP seems to me a viable way to get back into the CM universe until CMSF comes out for OS X Any other experiences? I will be glad to answer specific questions if anyone has them...
  10. Hello Battlefront, Love the idea, I have been a loyal CM player even after Apple dropped RAVE support with OSX  Would like to know if CMSF will be dual platform and what you THINK the hardware requirements will be...haven't seen much on that in this section. Will a 1 Ghz with 64MB of VRAM be enough horsepower?
  11. Nope, I downloaded your mods for CMAK...I was merely trying to complement MikeT on the excellent CMBO Pacific mod that I have enjoyed...by the way when do you think the new Vietnam mods will be posted?
  12. Hi, Just downloaded the Pacific Mod...as I recall for CMAK you just drop the BMPs in the BMP folder right? After backing up the other files of course Are there any Pacific scenarios...I remember MikeT made some good ones for his CMBO Pac mod...are those going the be translated to CMAK? I may have to try the Korea mod too, are there any scenarios for that?
  13. Great news...the MODS look outstanding...couple of questions; Could you send the link to the Mods and will they be available in a "Pack"? Also, with CMAK, don't you just drop the BMPs in the appropriate folder? On Macs, I used a Mod Manager for CMBO, but I'm told that isn't needed with CMAK..is that true? Also I understand MikeT is involved with the project..that is great I really enjoyed the WARTFB mods and MikeT was very gracious in sending them to me when I couldn't find them anywhere...so I am looking forward to the results
  14. Can anyone give me pointers on how to keep my computer from choking on Huge Operations? I have been trying to play the Crete and Leros Operations and my computer locks up on the first move. I have an 800 Mhz G3 iBook with 32 MB of VRAM and 256MB of RAM. I have 75MB allocated to CMAK. I can play other Huge Operations and Huge Scenarios, but those 2 Operations lock me up every time I've tried. I have tried turning down the video settings for trees and terrain features with no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Am I just kinda screwed without a G4 machine for those 2 operations?

  16. Just in case anyone is interested, I just D/L the demo...damn I love cable modems...and the demo looks really good on my ol' IMAC DV with the 8 MB video card. Of course I always keep my monitor at 800 x600, so there is probably some downsampling, but WOW, it still looks damn good....another super job, I'm gonna look for a used powerbook just to keep playing my CM games when I finally have to go to OS X.....and even $10 less than CMBB What more could you ask right before Christmas Can't wait to see the new engine that can run in native OS X A constantly happy CM player...

    FNG question

Major, Purchased TacOps a short time ago and enjoy it a lot. One question, after reading the manual, it appears that I can not make solo play scenarios...am I reading this correctly and if so, is there any place to find them? I would love to play some scenarios based on OIF or even OEF....or some Desert Storm or Balkan even...any ideas? Grunt GI USNA '87
  18. Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but, will CMAK have the same specs as CMBB, meaning if I can play CMBB on my current computer, will I be able to play CMAK...also any update on a demo? Thanks much
  19. Guess I didn't state myself very well. Does anyone have a strategy, etc for choosing one type of troops over another besides the types of weapons they carry? There are several different types of pioneers, etc. Is one type of pioneers better than another in street fighting? Or is the weapon load carried by the unit the only real differentiator? The Strategy Guide does a good job of tabulating the weapons , firepower, etc...but what else is there too choose from...thanks for the replies...keep'em coming!
  20. Don't know if this has already been asked and answered so here goes...can anyone give a brief description, or point to the thread that describes the bewildering types of German troops available? I like to play QB and choose my forces and would like to know the relative merits of recon vs fusilier vs paratroopers for a given battle? I have the strategy guide (part duex) but it doesn't cover this at all. Thanks for the help
  21. Just a quick question...for those of us that purchased the strategy guide V 1.0, will we automatically receive the V 2.0 or will we need to show proof of purchase? By the way love the screen shots of CMAK..just another reason to keep the ol' iMac going a little longer p.s if we can play CMBB on our machine, can we assume it will play CMAK?
  22. Apologies in advance if this has been answered, but is there any update on when the Strategy Guide v.2 will be shipped to those of us who bought the v.1?
  23. I have played CMBB on my 400 MHz Imac DV with the Rage 128, 8Mb VRAM and 128Mb RAM with no problems so far. I am using OS9.1 and I have my screen set to 800x600. I had occassional lockups under OS 9.04 with CMBO, but I haven't noticed any since going to 9.1. I have tried Large scenarios with all the graphics (trees, terrain, etc) to do some testing and it seems to work okay....don't know if this helps...
  24. Just wanted to check..does the European Theater CD come with the maps that were at the back of the original green books? My local library has two of the original green books and the maps at the back are outstanding..... Thanks
