  2. Not useless at all. They can take out Stugs and can be fired from within buildings. Put a +2 stealth HQ with them in a heavy building and they are invisible and deadly. Drawbacks are low ammo load and inaccuracy.
  3. DEY, Thanks. I'm still using 56k and only get 4kps dl times. And that's on a lucky day. I have lots and lots of your mods. They are really good. The whitewashed ones. Are you strictly a whitewash man? I'd like to send you a bmp (just one bmp, not 8meg) for you to look at and maybe use. Would that be possible? jt
  4. DEY Thanks for the link for GEMs HT Pack. I looked around the site and in the HT file that I dl'd but couldn't find GEMs address to email him. The machine gun plate for the 251/10 comes up not winterized. I looked around and found that it is showing 13753.bmp and I tried creating a 113753.bmp but that didn't work. What I wanted to ask Gorden was what bmp number is that. Can you guide me or help me out? Thanks jt
  5. Sergei, No, not sure now. I was relying on 2 year old memory and looks like it's failed me. I have sent an email to Scott Boston, scenario designer, asking him exactly what it takes to allow for this movement. If there are any scenario designers out their who want to share just how it's done, please help out.
  6. Yes you can. But like Sergei says, you must place the end of your move line ON the wall. If it turns red, you can not go. Pass the end of your line over and over until you are sure it is not red. There are exit points in each building and if each building's exit point match up then those walls are passable. You can test this out with the editor. The buildings have little dots on one wall. Place the dots of each building together and this will make the wall passable.
  7. I think that CMBB upgraded the defensive ability of walls over CMBO. I only have the CMAK demo and it seemed that those walls worked very well. Did BF upgrade walls from CMBB to CMAK? I'm posting this in CMBB because I want to know if I can have the confidence of using walls in CMBB as I do in CMAK.
  8. No dice. ROQC is a tracking and scenario creation program. It might be a bit tedious at first, but once you get the hang of it, it'll take minutes (if that) to create a setup for your next game, giving you more time to play and less time to figure out what to play. RobO is always in and around, and he will give you a much better explanation than I can. Hang in there. It's a super duper program. jt Hi Rob.
  9. Rob, I'm still using my 3meg spread sheets, tho, the favor calculations (as are all calculations) are yours. I only copy the answer in O29. Which brings me to ask you a question if you ever got to take a look at any of the clipboards that are in my copy? Since you couldn't get past the C-Clipboard, I don't think you were able to utilize or even look at the rest. I've merged Transfers and Upgrades together and it's working quite nicely. I'm not upgrading like your rules say because Favor is so abundant. I just buy all new equipment. In fact, this last upgrade, since I had a platoon of 5 T-34 (1941) and upgraded to two platoons of KV-I (1941), I would have gotten back 58 Favor. So, I just left the 5 tanks on the battlefield and bought new ones and still have 800pts. I'm on my 9th battle now and have gotten 2 Promotions. Did you get to see the Add Units Clipboard? The Briefing Clipboard? Or the Requisition clipboard? I really like how I don't have to mess with Point Cost or Point Value any more and can just click a button and my core force just appears - all filled in with PC/PV and updated after each battle automatically. I've just added a Promotion Clipboard, but it's not quite ready yet. German side is done, Soviet and all the rest will take some research to do. Alas, no one offered to test out my spreadsheets so I'm just going to keep them for myself. I have been teasing with the idea of making some of the clipboards stand-alone so that they will slide into your package...use or not. Also, I've tested my spreadsheets on several different computers with different Excels. A laptop with the files on a CD, one with Office 97 and Windows 98, and 2 with XP with the latest Office and they all worked first time every time. I don't know what to say why it doesn't work on yours. Anyway, I'll see what I can do to get you some data that you can use without sending the entire 3megs. Maybe just copy the data over to a blank sheet and send that. I too am amazed that you are amazed that I've produced wins. They are really pretty easy. Not the battles per se, but it really doesn't take to much to produce a win at settings of hard and grueling. It's quite free with allowing victory. At first, I didn't follow the Computer Bonus (1st two games), but then I started doing it and really haven't noticed too much of a difference. Just have to use more bullets. I guess maybe why it might be so easy is that I have tanks and infantry in my core force. A platoon of T-34s (5) and a company of Pioneers. Pioneers suck at any distance over 50m and don't do that well close up either. They are best when throwing their bombs. Which, I've noticed that CMAK tends to allow freer use of them than CMBB. I only have the demo of CMAK, but those guys stand up and throw their bombs like nobodys buisness and right away too. If and when I do get CMAK, and if they act like they do in the demo, it's going to be a lot of fun with Pioneers or whatever the equivalent is...Engineers for the Americans. Some of the wins I got were due to bad weather, namely thick snow. The AI just can't move into flag position very well. I really wish there was a way to lengthen the game while in game cause if the AI is attacking in thick snow, I would up the turns dramatically...to give me a chance to kill them close, but they just never seem to get close enough. I also up the number of turns if it's too low. I can't stand the way CM limits a battle. It may be the way the have to do it to make their game work, but it sure is a sucky way of doing it. Very bad programming decision IMO. One thing that I've always used but never could effectively was walls. CMAK seems to have fixed that. Too bad they won't go back to BO and BB and put in that coding. I failed to pay my phone bill again, so I do expect that since Friday, Sat, Sun and quite possibly Monday are holidays, and it will be turned off tomorrow, I won't be getting my phone turned back on until probably Tuesday %
  10. Rob, I just got finished with a Retreat...settting on Hard. 1500 pt. all Infantry support with my core force of Tanks and infantry. Luckily, I had Regulars for support force and not conscripts. As it was, I had to take a batallion/battallion/battalion of infantry and more to meet the points criteria. I got everyone off the map (mostly), but like you say, the biggest problem was bookkeeping. When I looked at the battle at the end, I took out my new clean 100 page notepad and was going to fill it up with the data, but decided that playing the game was more fun than wasting ink and paper and chucked the whole game and just made it a non-battle, moving on to the next. I think you know which column my vote goes under. A VERY VERY small thing. Check the spelling of Temperature on the Setup sheet. Been that way for a long time now and I just caught it myself. Am getting VERY VERY large Favor values. On average, 200 pts per game. This is on settings of Hard and Gruesome. Also, an interesting result. I totally descimated the enemy. Killed all but 10 of the German rascals, took all the flags, had very few losses. Ended up with a -1 Favor for the battle and a loss. I know you need all the specific settings to make a determintation, but I don't remember them all. I guess what I'm basically saying is that Favor seems to be totally out of whack (from what I expect for Favor gain/loss). What are basic Favor awards for battles at different settings of difficulty? Do you have a chart or anything that shows what you would expect at different difficulty levels? jt jt
  11. The first 10 battles or so were with 1.01e and now the rest are with 1.01f. The 3 battles in the snow were with 1.01e. Some of the early games I was getting less than 100 pts support. I'll try and notice if there is a difference in support force size as the last game I did get around 250pts for support. Can't take much except MGs. Oh, and I think the reason why the files I sent didn't work is because I sent you an incorrect (incomplete) data base. That's why you were getting the subscript out of range. It had to do with the Rank and one rank field was filled in. None were supposed to be there. Do you want me to resend?
  12. Robert, I have some more battle for you. I decided to try Stop the Tide with my model and since STT was starting in '44. 2 or 3 more battles and I'll send you the History. I started the first 2 battles at Normal, then changed to grueling. Once again, as soon as I got a promotion...whap, 3 battle losses in a row and a demotion. Tho, the 3 battles were in Dec, Jan and Feb, all with snow and Dec Jan in deep snow. Lost my best vet Tiger, but the others are all Vet now. Not much support force when Tigers get to be vets. jt
  13. I have been working on a support program for ROQC. If anyone would like to test this out, please email mail me with a Subject of CMBB or similar. Right now, I'm just trying to see if it will work on another machine. I am using Windows 98 and would prefer someone using Windows rather than Mac at this point. Will get to Mac when Windows is running. It has some really powerful features that will knock your socks off. Thanks, jt ps. Thanks Robert
  14. Robert, Just thought of something when I got a +1 Comp. Bonus on my next battle. When is the Bonus applied? Is it prior to the computer picking it's forces, or is it applied after the computer picks its forces? Makes a big difference. I was always assuming that it was applied before the computer picked. Do you or anyone else know? jt
  15. v.97 for ROQC automates everything. Much easier to use now (not that it wasn't easy before). A few entries then just a click on each setting and poof it's done. Very easy. I'm talking about using the spreadsheets, not the Gifs or other methods as I don't know how they play out. Robert is still working on it, tho it seems to be done with only a couple minor glitches. I haven't tried Biltongs (spelling) so can't tell you about that. ROQC gives me super hard battles most of the time with a pre-battle feeling of how the heck am I supposed to win this? My last battle was an Allied (I'm allied) Assault against 100% force bonus for the Axis, 25 turns, heavy trees, large hills, -15% force for Allied, no armor for me. I just left my core force behind and took one flag with my support force. I chickened out using the core force cause 3 battle before, I had lost 188 our of 194 men and was reduced to all greens. Luckily, I didn't get a roll for conscript replacements otherwise, I'd be down at the bottom again in Aug of 43 with nothing but conscripts. As it was, after the 188/194 decimation, the next battle was a loss too and then I did get a lot of conscripts. But now, I'm back up to mostly regulars. Two more "safe" battles and I just might get a veteran in my core force...yipee!!! jt
  16. Try ROQC Campaign Rules. Latest rules are v.096. v.097 is in the works and makes setting up a game much easier as the Battle Sheet is now fully automated. You don't have to play the entire war, as you can just do an extension or short campaign. Very, very challenging. Excel spreadsheets is the way to go. Here is where you can get it: http://www.roqc.cdgroup.org/
  17. Rob, Very sorry to hear about your father. My best to you my friend and may your and your fathers pains ease very soon. Re: ROQC - You've done a masterful job with v.94 The upgrades are awesome and working beautifully. The battles are difficult and the tallies are very representative and fair. I want to repeat that the tallies are very representative. As of now, I have two sheets for you as proof. I can't believe that I barely pulled out a tactical win for 11 Favor in an ME with equal strength, equal troop quality, then pull out a total victory against an Enemy Assault at +75% strength. The thing that I like the most is after (and during) rolling for the values on the Battle sheet, I am on a roller coaster ride of Oh boy! I get full ammo to total dismay when rolling enemy forces +75%. Going into battles like the assaults, gives me a 'how can I possibly win' feeling, then when winning, having a feeling of pulling off a miracle and then to be justly rewarded for my actions. Superb model, Rob, SUPERB! Take care, see you when you get back. jt
  18. Atiff, Yes, I'm play testing. Using Russian Infantry as my core force. I just ran up against a nasty Fit, Crack, +100% handicap vs. Weakened Regs (both full ammo)in a 400 pt, Flat (what else), open, Town Axis Probe. I scored an 82% victory causing 80% casualties to them while having only 20% casualties to my side. All of this netted me 7 Favor (6 pts. came from the Victory) as only .4pts Favor for all the kills I made...effectively 0 Favor for that part. Lost tons of Experience. I've sent all the data to Rob with some suggestions. I'm progressively going backwards at this point. Apr of 43 and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Conscripts abound with more on the horizon. Reality sucks! jt
  19. Jack, For those that say to try and hide and hope they don't target you and the game will end...don't buy it. I had an all infantry against CA in flat, open, rural terrain (zero AT assests but did have a company of Pioneers in the trenches). When I saw them coming on turn 1, not much to do. So, I did the hide thing. I lost 0% to 100%. That's right, didn't cause even one casualty. And this was in a campaign. My core experience went from Reg to Conscript in one battle as only 17 of my men made it passed the NKVD while running off the map.
  20. Other Means, I had the same thing happen to me. All white way points on a continuation of the previous turns move orders after movement had already begun. I reported it to Madmatt about 2 days before the release of v1.03 and had sent him save files. He replied for some further information, but I didn't hear from him. I can assume that it was something that wasn't all that common or worrisome as it was not addressed for v1.03. I'm not at all speaking for BFC, just from what happend with me.
  21. Thank you. I especially like the rear. Only Gautreks tracks, the u-rings and the 2 emblems were direct copies (and altered). Everything else was drawn in. You won't find any of that stuff anywhere else.
  22. Nidan1, I think there are lots of JPzIV mods out there. I know Gordon just released his mono and Kingfisher released one not long ago. In any case, here's another one. jt
  23. Here it is. You can get it at CM MOD Database Edited because for some reason, Fotki.com keeps changing the name of the photo. So, I've dropped Fotki. [ July 14, 2003, 08:37 PM: Message edited by: JAT ]
  24. Thanks guys. Flesh, yes, most definitely from scratch. I erased every bmp and redid the skeleton for it. Then got in touch with Michael Koenig who gave me tons of up close photos from refirbished JPzIVs that are used in simulations and for show. The MOD is 85% authentic. The pics don't really show the 3D effect that it possessesessessess. (How many s's in that word?) Am also using Gautreks' dusty tracks which will be included in the MOD package, with his permission. Two other things, the u-shape joints and a set of hinges are taken from some weird place on the web. Other than that, everything is authentic. Some things have been duplicated because they make the mod look neat, so that takes away from any realness, but enhances the looks. Lastly, the emblem on the back is a Stug emblem...again, it looks neat. Many things are 'created', mostly by making mistakes. Still working on it. Edited because I can't spell the persons name who inspired me correctly. Gautrek. [ July 03, 2003, 12:37 AM: Message edited by: JAT ]
