1. ...your wife comes out to your office for the first time in a year and offers you a cool refreshment. After the first sip you remember that 10 litre jug of insecticide is still missing, and begin to wonder.... Craig (thinking of hiring a royal food taster) ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
2. Thanks guys...heat it is. It's located in my seed plant office where there's lots of grain dust buildup on everything. First time I've had the cover off in months and it was scary in there. In fact, some of the dust balls seemed to have eyes and teeth (looked a lot like Mr Peng's smileys, but fuzzier) Thanks again Craig [This message has been edited by Craig (edited 05-24-2000).]
3. at random intervals. I haven't added, deleted or changed a thing for at least a week. This just started happening today, and has occured 5 times now...twice when I was just sitting here doing nothing (well, paperwork), twice when reading the forum and once when running MS Works. If anyone else has seen this, please let me know. Thanks in advance. oh, and nothing else is running except systray and explorer. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
4. Same problem here with a SB AWE 64. Reversed the leads into the speakers to correct it for now. No big deal, as I only have TacOps and CM, and TacOps doesn't care about stereo. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
5. The game is "Ortona, A game of the advance in Italy, December 1943" It's an operational level game designed by P.L. Hollinger and published by Simulations Canada in 1983. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
6. To avoid the risk of embarrassing Jon Sowden in public, I will not use his name from now on, but will call him Mr X. This Mr X, after seeing me post about making a scenario based on the battle for Ortona, with great personal initiative, took it upon himself to contact me via e-mail. This in itself was a risk, based on my posting habits, as he could be encouraging dangerous sycophantic activity. Anyways, in this note, he mentioned that he had an old board game based on this very battle, and would send it to me if I so wished. After brushing off my feeble attempts to pay him with Monopoly (Canadian) money, he selflessly, and at great potential peril to himself and his family (now I know where he lives ) sent it via expensive Trans-Pacific Carrier Pigeon (airmail). Having just received said package, it was decided that Mr X be nominated for the "Combat Mission Scenario Creation Assistance Medal" (with attached gaudy trinkets). In other words, thanks JonS, I got it yesterday. On a related note, I suppose MadMatt should be nominated for the "Spending My Own Money So You Guys Can Have A Dedicated Chat Room And Gives Me A Place To Keep MadBot Warm In The Winter And Cool In The Summer" award. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
7. I generally try to avoid responding to posts from people like Lewis, as I regard it as nothing more than feeding the trolls, but in this case I will make an exception. Lewis, you should apologize to Tankgirl as soon as you read this. Now you are insulting two people at a time, neither of which posted anything to deserve it. Someone wants to PBEM, is new to the forum, and gets crapped on?? What the F*** is wrong with you?? If there was a way to use a newsgroup filter here, I'm sure *plonk* would be the only thing you would see in response to many of your posts. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default) the BEST farmer on the forum!
8. Air strike availability (and quantity)is up to the scenario designer. If he doesn't want you to have it, you won't get it. Craig ------------------ Absolutely, without question (and by default)the BEST farmer on the forum!
9. Sorry to jump in here, but the ref to the C47 reminds me of the time we were fishing up in N. Saskatchewan. This was when the US was testing cruise missiles, and a B-52 flew over us at no more than 300 feet, with an offset of about 1/4 mile. One of the most impressive things I have ever experienced. Craig (loving non-selective herbicides...die weeds die)
10. Tom, I farm in West Central Saskatchewan, where the land is so flat you can watch your dog run away for three days. Currently I farm 1150 acres, 1/4 to each of the crops listed above. The only livestock I have are three self propelled mousetraps (cats) and a couple of wild deer that like to live in the trees around the yard. Farming is still the best way of life, period, but anyone who came back here after 20yrs would be shocked by the changes. It took my father, grandfather and a hired man to run this farm in the 60's, and now there only little old me. Mechanization has really improved (at an extremely high cost, mind you) to the point that if dad comes out to help now, there is nothing for him to do. Craig (Thinking about waxing his tractor today)
11. Jeez, now I really feel like an idiot . All these multi-title job descriptions, and all I can come up with is six little letters...Farmer. Oh well, I guess there is solace in knowing that if all us farmers quit working, everybody else (including those with multi-title job descriptions)will die. Craig (just finished seeding Lentils, Wheat, Durum and Flax for you all ) smilies added in spite of Mr. Peng [This message has been edited by Craig (edited 05-19-2000).]
12. At the beginning of a turn, I usually flip on labels (ALT-G) to get a rough idea of what's happening to everyone. If any are shaken, panicked or low on ammo (or eliminated )I concentrate on them first. Doesn't help with position or health, but it is a good place to start IMHO. Craig (posting on topic for once)
13. at the annex? Our snowstorm just ended and I have some time to kill. Craig
14. The battle for Ortona. Yes, I know it's in Italy, but I only need Canadians, German paratroops, a gully ,a city and an idiot for a Canadian commander (me?). If I can find some decent maps and figure out the editor it should be one hellacool operation. Craig (typing in the middle of a blizzard)
15. Have you tried CTRL ALT DEL after a fresh boot? This brings up the close program dialog box, and as far as I know you only need systray and explorer running. This speeds things up and eliminates any conflicts that might occur. Craig (sitting in the middle of a freak snowstorm)
16. Thanks MantaRay. Off to try it now. Craig
17. I saw in Madmatt's vehicle list at the Annex that there are two versions of the G... one with the chin and one without. Craig (only 725 acres to go until full time CM)
18. After searching (and finding a nifty little flame war) I am still looking to find a frame rate counter. Is there something I missed, or is it a development tool only. Thanks in advance. Craig (will the last person to leave Saskatchewan please turn out the lights) ps. Thanks for including the Badger BTS
19. If BTS is looking for ballistics on a potato cannon, I could do it if I could fire it through a chronograph (could be mucho expensive though - skyscreens don't come cheap). However, if you're looking for the midpoint between potatos and frozen chickens, I have a mortar that will fire a cement filled beer can about 500 meters... actually punched a hole through a 1974 Plymouth car door at 150m (took about 6 shots to acually hit the car though) Craig "looking for a bigger gun" Harvey
20. Perfect timing!! I should get done seeding about May 20 or so, and will have about three weeks in between that and spraying to play with the demo. Craig (gun control works, criminals are safer than ever before)
21. As I was sitting here reading some of the crap I have hanging on my office walls, one item struck me as being related to CM and the seemingly endless wait, and I don't think it would be out of place in the manifesto. At This Establishment, We Do Three Kinds Of Work... Good, Cheap and Quick. You Can Have Any Two... A Good Job Cheap - Won't Be Quick A Cheap Job Quick - Won't Be Good A Quick Job Good - Won't Be Cheap Craig (opinions are like *ssholes, everyone has one, and nobody thinks theirs stinks) ps. and I bet you guys thought you were finally rid of my ramblings
22. Had the same problem on Dad's computer. He had an ATI Rage Pro+ graphics chipset. Fought with it for three days, admitted defeat, and got him a TNT based card. Craig (aka Seed Cleaner)
23. OBG (or anyone), have you thought of posting at Combat Sim? I assume they draw much the same crowd, and I haven't seen anything there either. http://www.combatsim.com Craig (aka Seed Cleaner) ps I'd do it, but I never could write worth a damn
24. As I have absolutely nothing of value (computer literacy wise) to offer but time (especially in the winter), I don't know what I could do to help. I do consider myself to be an above average proofreader, so I will volunteer for that if you need one. Otherwise, if you can think of anything else run it by me, I might even suprise myself. Craig (aka Seed Cleaner elsewhere)
25.
quote:
Originally posted by Zigster: The hell with its record. The P38 looks very, very COOL Twin boom, nose chock full o' fifties. Ooooh, I wants one The only complaints I ever heard about it were its maneuverability, a fault easily cured by judicious use of zoom and boom tactics.

I saw a P-38 flyby at the air museum in Palm Springs... very disappointed as those twin allisons just purred by very quietly (approx 75yds). I don't know what I expected, but the damn thing was not nearly as loud as television would have you believe. OTOH, a Navy Trojan had just landed, and that twin radial would deafen you from 50yds just taxiing (taxying, tackseying??). Craig ps. the '38 was just a lovely thing to watch in flight though
