  1. Hi Harv, yeah that's a great DIF resource website indeed - thanks for the hint! However, I can only find lists of action cards and aircraft cards there, which appear to be complete in my games. The problem is the pilot counters - for example, I'd have to use Johnson as a P-38 pilot in the North Africa campaign but there is no single US pilot counter named Johnson in my games. That's exactly the incident where I found out that there must be counters missing here...
  2. Hi DIF pilots, alright, BF.com made my mouth wet about this game and I was lucky to find the real "RotL" and "8AF" games at ebay. Unfortunately, as I can see from the pictures at the GMT website, there are at least some pilot counters missing in the games i got... Does somebody know if there exists a dedicated fansite or a downloadable file with a complete counter inventory? I'm feeling pretty bad playing the game knowing that it might be unbalanced due to missing counters... I'd like to substitute the missing chits with custom-made replacements. Regards
  3. Well, now I'm confused... The latest version of WinRAR (v3.00) won't open the SETUP.EXE file ("No archives found in selected file and folder"). Maybe I should mention that I got the German version of CMBB distributed by CDV. There is one huge SETUP.EXE file on the CD-ROM that is processed by Install Shield during installation. It first unpacks HD.EXE, then BMP.EXE followed by WAV.EXE - which are subsequently being uncompressed and contain the respective single files. Finally, the scenario files and miscellaneous stuff are extracted. Is there anything I'm missing here? Any further help is very much appreciated.
  4. Hello BTS, I wonder if it is possible to "directly" access the single files for CMBB stored in compressed form in the big SETUP.EXE - I mean the contents of the BMP.EXE and WAV.EXE archives that are being processed during setup, containg all BMPs and WAVs. In fact, if one has installed modded graphics/sounds and want to switch back - do you have to go all the way back and do a re-install? Just to change back a single file to the default one? I really can't do a hundreds-of-megabytes backup everytime when checking out a new mod... I'd really appreciate info on this from BTS - thank you!
  5. Well, I wonder if we will ever be gifted the possibility to fix issues like that ourselves. The only thing we would need is a small tool to change the text strings - dunno if this particular one is actually coded, though. Not even speaking of the possibility to do more satisfying large-scale mods - where renaming units is an essential part (or would you like your Japanese soldiers in PTO mods to drive around in so-called Tiger tanks!?).
  6. S! guys, just a quick note to give a big THANK YOU for your suggestion to upgrade to a nVidia TNT2 M64 chipset video card (PCI - 50 bucks). Both CMBO and the CMBB Demo work like a charm for me now on my relatively poor system (I'm the guy with the 640x480 question, ya know...). Regarding CMBO it's just like owning a whole new game! After big trouble with our DSL router (that was NOT related at all to the video card installation) I am now online again and I thought I'd just come back to write this. Thanks a lot - here I go to enjoy the CMBB Demo - at last! Ya-hoo!
  7. My Voodoo I (one) card RAM is 4 MB. This is the info I got from the driver kit I am currently using: Voodoo Drivers © 1997-1999 by 3Dfx Interactive: Driver Kit version 3.01.00 Glide Driver version 2.48.00.0455 Glide3 Driver version 3.04.00.0455 OpenGL® Driver version 1.00.0438 ICD DirectX® Release Number: 2.17 DirectX Driver Version 4.10.01.0017 My desktop resolution is 1024x768. No Software mode - the settings I accept on startup read "3D DirectX Test - 3Dfx Interactive DirectX5 Driver - Resolution 640x480" in the window - the software mode option pops up later on when I skip that screen (software mode only "offers" me 640x480 as well). I should mention that according to DXDiag I am running DirectX version 8.0 (4.08.00.0400). I wonder why the recognition process offers the DirectX5 Driver, though... For the 2D interface 1024x768 was selected.
  8. Hi Madmatt, Some system specs that may be helpful: 233 MHz Pentium I MMX 64 MB RAM Matrox Millennium II Video Card 3Dfx Voodoo Accelerator Card My video card combination usually allows up to 800x600 pixels (does so in other games) in 3D with Glide. I am using the latest reference driver for Voodoo cards by 3Dfx (RIP... <sniff>). However, the 640x480 pixels are in fact the ONLY resolution both CMBO and the CMBB Demo allow me to select for 3D environment display during initial startup.
  9. S! everyone, as a relatively new player to CMBO (however an old wargame and flightsim gronard) I have been awaiting the CMBB demo with great anticipation. In the meantime, I have played CMBO and it has become my favorite strategy game - both BFC and the mod-makers out there really deserve an award for their great work! CMBO runs fine on my (quite aged) computer. The CMBB Demo does start up as well - BUT: I am stuck to an in-game resolution of 640x480 pixels due to my old 3D accelerator card (crowd: "Geez - buy a new one!" - "I know, I know..."). In fact, CMBB might be the final kick I need to go and buy a new PC. But, as it is now, I can't test the new game features of CMBB because the new interface panel is too wide (more than 640 pixels, obviously) and - stupid enough - I simply can't hit the GO! button to proceed (it's off the screen's limits). So all I can watch is the setup phase - no fun... Will the full version of CMBB support the 640x480 res again like CMBO did? Or am I doomed? Is there a keyboard shortcut that can be used instead of hitting the GO! button that I am not aware of?
  10. BTW: This would also open up the possibility for Total Conversion Mod creators to rename unit types properly. I guess it would give a boost to realism and enjoyment if - for example - Japanese tanks in a PTO mod DO NOT have the old German labels like "Tiger", but the proper names instead. I don't see any reason why such a label-editing function shouldn't be included (it's one of the things i miss the most in the CMBO editor). I mean - BTS did a fine job by using easily editable file formats (BMP and WAV) for graphics and sounds. Scenario briefings are also editable. So why is this not the case with the unit names as well? Maybe that would be a nice idea for a new editor function (e.g. in the upcoming CMBB)? Just my two cents - sorry if I'm getting on your nerves...
  11. Please don't get me wrong - I'm NOT talking about hacking or something like that here. In fact, hex editing simply opens up the possibility to open any file, view the (encoded) data and make changes to them directly. For instance, one can open up a scenario file (CMB or CMC) and change the text of the description line that is displayed in the scenario selection list WITHOUT using CMBO's built-in editor. I have done so with my scenario files to enter characters that the editor doesn't allow to type (the German umlauts - it simply looks better IMHO). What I want to do is to tweak the short unit type labels in the same way to make them look "more pleasant" to the eye - e.g. "Zug-Gefstd" (should be "Zug-Gefechtsstand", but that word won't fit into the interface text field) to "Zug HQ". Same goes for the weather type - "leichter Schnee" (light snow) is too wide to fit the interface text field, so I'd like to shorten that term. In fact, I only want to apply these rather cosmetic changes for my own enjoyment. I do NOT intend to produce some kind of modified EXE or something (I don't have the knowledge to do something like that, anyway).
  12. Hi there, finally I got my own copy of CMBO after being a "silent observer" of the forums and websites dealing with this great game. Usually, I'm dealing with mod creation for flight simulators - and I'm pretty much the type of gamer who starts to mess around with the files of a new game quickly to remove annoying typos, tweak graphics and sounds, etc. My question is: Can the names of the CMBO units be edited somehow (in particular the short versions displayed in the upper right corner of the unit profile when you highlight it on the map)? I'm quite familiar with editing of files by means of a hex editor, but I understand that text content is being coded internally by CMBO in savegame files / in the main executable. Does somebody have experience with this? Is there some editing tool available for this purpose? Does anyone know the code encrypting embedded text (e.g. scenario descriptions in CMB/CMC files) and/or the positions of the short unit labels in the EXE? Thanks in advance for your help. Happy hunting! Cortilein Cord's EAW Page
  13. kmead - ummm, is it? The only scenarios I have here right now are "Valley of Trouble" and "Chance Encounter". But I'm sure there was a third one with a German attack on a small village - including 1 Tiger, 1 StuG and three SdKfz halftracks... BTW: Is there a nice smoke grenade graphics mod out there? The default one kind of sucks - at least I'm getting no transparency effect on my 'puter...
  14. S! everyone I understand that the Demos have their own scenarios and won't run scenarios designed for the full game. Unfortunately, I haven't backed-up the one Beta Demo scenario including the three half-tracks and the Tiger on the German side before installing the Gold Demo. That scenario was fun to play... Is the Gold Demo capable of opeing that specific scenario of the Beta Demo? If yes, is there a website where I can download that old scenario file to avoid DLing the whole Beta Demo once again? Thanks for your help, Cord
