With 8 Megs of VRAM I'd stick to 800x600 when playing CM. Btw, the prefs file doesn't affect things much on the Mac as far as screen res changes go, so I would not bother dumping it after every resolution change. Do not turn disk cache off, matter of fact it would not hurt to make it a little bigger than the default size. (By 1 meg or 2 only), also get rid of any unneeded background apps, like 3/4 of the junk Norton Sytemworks installs (Like that infernal disk light) if you have any. Gyrene

We had a bunch of wrecked Mig15's & Mig21's that we bulldozed aside in Somalia. Hardly "Battefiled Relics" but some day someone might think they were. We went through a LOT of rifles & guns that we confiscated from the skinnies, including several Enfields, a BAR & a couple M1911 .45's thrown with the G3's, FAL's & AK's. Didn't get to keep any of that though. On a non-military note a friend & I once found the remains of an old six-shooter in an old gold mining area in the San Bernadino mountains, and his dad once found, but could not retrieve, a Winchester or Henry rifle some 25 feet in the air where a pine tree had grown around it. I've noticed that before. It almost seems like CM uses an averaging formula to determine hits on squads (less people = less targets, thus harder to hit). This probably not the case, but certain units like HQs, Arty Spotters and Broken squads are ridiculously hard to hit, while two man teams like AT and Flame thrower teams hardly ever survive a rifle barrage or MG fire. How much RAM do you have on that PBook and how much virtual memory are you running? It sounds like you are using a lot of virtual memory, with intermitent lag like that. Gyrene

RAM and video card. Get a TNT2 or GeForce 2 card with at least 32MB and at least another 128MB of RAM and you should be happy for a while for about $70 Gyrene
