1.
quote:
Originally posted by Peaveyyyyyyyy: For ME's, have more flags, all over the map. Have about 10 x 100 pointers in the middle third of the battlefield, and 6 x 300 pointers, 3 in each players home third. This will reward aggressive play (for aggressive read exciting), and make sure that it doesn't turn into a creep-fest aroung a couple of flags in the centre of the map. What does everyone think of that lot?

Wouldn't having a lot of victory flags let you know exactly where your opponent is? The flag turns and you have a nice reference point for artillery or whatever. Try turning the flags off and ignoring them even at the end of the scenario. (Don't peek.) Determine a victory based on casualties alone. It would be nice if when we turn off the flags, the game would totally ignore them as well -even at the end when determining who won. Turn them off at the beginning of the scenario and they stay off. A tiny little thing for sure, yet important, IMHO.
 2. I guess that their radios wouldn't work unless the FO is touching the earth. It must've been in the Geneva Convention. Seriously, that is an EXCELLENT question, even IF it has been asked before. I can see absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Maybe they just ran out of time again. If so, then there should no reason to leave it out of CMBB. They have plenty of time.
 3. ...the 'taps' sound file played when we quit the COMBAT MISSION program is uniquely American. Are there plans for a different ending sound file for CMBB (which naturally doesn't have Americans in it)? Maybe a Russian version of taps? Maybe German? I ask this so as to be kept deeply immersed in the character of the new game -even when we (temporarily) leave it. Cheers, Rick
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Viceroy: Dr Brian, you should check out The Scenario Depot at http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/ has ratings for play balance, though not all scenarios have been reviewed yet.

That's some real nice scenario depot.
 5. Isn't there a an Achille's heel with this tactic?? It seems to me that while a tank is putting all of his concentration on shooting at the building, he is not watching out so well for enemy tanks making him vulnerable. AND that would be one less gun for a little while at least against your tanks even if there was an overwatch. Does that seem crazy to anyone?
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Doug Beman: I suggest searching for a d/l of Action Stations, IMHO the best naval surface-combat game ever.

Doug, You aren't the only one with that opinion. I have VERY fond memories of 'Action Stations'. What a blast that game was! Hit had LOTS of detail for any naval grog. Now, 'Action Stations' really should be re-made for today's machines. I can't believe that I completely forgot about it. Hmmmm.
 7. WW II naval games might be great -for sure. I wouldn't want anything to prevent CM: North Africa (whatever the number it is). Many folks wonder about a modern CM. It is a nice thought. I for one don't think that it'll work as the lethality of modern weapons would make it impractical. Isn't there missle systems that literally shred everything within a certain area? Add in smart bombs & cruise missles and CM changes to a battle where these ordinances are the focus (at greater ranges) than WW II weapons -hence a much larger battlefield. I think there are more problems than just these.
 8. Yeah, use the 'autosave' file from the menu. Once it comes up, you can then save the game again with the same name and thereby over-write the corrupted one. Good luck.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: The whole circumstance is very rare. In 9 out of 10 games, I'll bet it will only happen once or twice.

I repectfully disagree. In 9 out of 10 games it will happen a little more frequently than that. My question is it far more of a happen-stance than historical? (I wasn't there but,......) In CM there are far too many crews that have Donald Sutherland for a commander, IMO. In general, there is a problem (dare we call it a bug -again) with smoke. You line up indirect (or direct) fire from mortars and artillery that is well timed and you get smoke!!! It is a big enough of a problem that people are firing off all of their smoke rounds at the beginning of a scenario just to prevent this from happening. Smoke should only be fired off when a unit is TOLD to do so, I pray that this bug doesn't propogate itself into CM2.
 10. I second the motion for a release of the vehicle list. Its not TOP SECRET, is it? If Comissar is correct then we should see one. I wonder what the hold up is?
 11. Ah, but once CM arrives, it'll be worth the wait. Hang in there guys!
 12. Going to the General Forum is fun. There is both serious stuff and fun stuff there.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Peter Cairns: Is this something that peoplewould be interested in????

Peter, No thanks.
 14. RTS version of CM ever? I know it's page 3, but here is my 2 cents... ....God, I hope not! Real Time Strategy is an oxymoron. In small RTS scenarios, the action is managable and the use of a pause button helps. In medium and on to large scenarios, RTS is no longer realistic. Here's why. In a medium to large RTS scenario too much is happening all at once to be able to order your units so their 'experience' is realistic. All too often a unit will be left sitting someplace longer than it would normally sit and take unnecessary casualties because you are off at the other end of the battlefield trying to micromanage a tense situation. The result is non-historical and nothing that could be called a serious simulation of an historical event. I made the mistake fairly recently of buying 'Waterloo:Napoleon's Last Battle' because I like Napoleonics. I'll never make that mistake again. The full battle scenario is unplayable for the reason listed above -even with a pause button. I won't buy a RTS game even if ALL games are RT. Thank God for BTS and those like them. May their numbers continue to grow.

 16.
quote:
Originally posted by chair: I'm looking to used the map from south of sword and make a full operation, can this be done Youone@ic24.net

Go into your 'Scenario Editor' and 'Load' it from the 'Scenario' folder and not the default 'Saved Games' folder. (You'll have to do a little searching.) My copy wasn't 'Tournament Saved', and I bet yours isn't too. Once you 'Load' it, you can save it with a different name and leave the original intact. Save the new copy in your 'Saved Games' folder where it will be easier to get a hold of in the future. Now, you can access it, change the units, parameters, etc.... Good Luck!
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Aacooper: For a six-year-long war, you have to make A LOT of mistakes to earn the title of worst commander. Graziani and other losers of one battles cannot get that title. 1) Hitler 2) Montgomery - yes, Monty. Any general could have beaten the Germans at El Alamein, his sin was not catching Rommel in the long march across the desert. That setup the Tunisian battle, which slowed the Allied defeat of Germany. In Sicily, he moved too slow. In Italy, his insistance on going up the boot before the Salerno landings put the Germans on alert, and pulled German troops down to the Salerno area when the landings took place. In Normandy, he got nowhere. He couldn't close the Falaise Gap. Operation Market-Garden had the dual sins of ignoring intelligence about SS panzers in Arnhem, and depending on a single road. Not taking the sea passages to Antwerp forced another battle, and delayed the opening of the port (leading to Allied difficulties against the West Wall). In the Ardennes, he had negligable positive effect on the battle (read "A Time For Trumpets"), and wanted to delay the counterattack until February. In the Reichswald, I'll give him a pass because he faced most of the remaining coherent German forces and the groud was muddy. However, Operation Varsity could have been unnecessary if he didn't discourage the 9th Army from capturing a bridge across the Rhine. Once the British crossed the Rhine, they moved slowly, and continued to move slowly until the 82nd Airborne Div spurred them to hurry up and keep the Reds out of Denmark.

I second these two choices for the same reasons given by Aacooper.
 18. Davis, California. (And no, I didn't vote for the darn frog tunnel -that was never used by the frogs trying to get to the other side of the road.)
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: I've seen a platoon near the edge fall under light fire, get spooked and run offmap. They werent even panicked and were some 20-30 meters from the edge. My opponent was pretty pissed to lose some 30 perfectly healthy men.

Jarmo says it perfectly. Snakes Eyes sums it up well too. No, it isn't Gamey. The map is the map. Use it anyway you can to your best advantage. Now that he has your attention well fixed onto one direction, what does he have coming from the other direction to attack your new rear?

 21.
quote:
Originally posted by James Crowley: Thought I'd push this back up in the hope of maybe eliciting some answers.

Some sort of comment should be made by the CREATOR of this thread, whomever it was.
 22. Panzerman, I was refering to a search reagarding the search engine not working. I won't back off. You were plainly rude. With all of the effort you've spent trying to defend your rudeness, you could have used less than half the energy and said the same thing in a NICE way.
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzerman: There not. Do a search before you ask a question that way you mite find the answer and not have to post it.

Panzerman, Its very clear that the search utility doesn't always work. When it does work, it is tremendously slow and a pain. Panzerman, if you had done a search, you would have discovered that and therefore, you wouldn't have had to post what you posted. This is a discussion board afterall. The_Capt, You have a very good idea. It certainly makes sense. I was thinking the same thing just the other day. BTS would be a REAL cool place to invest. A big down side would be a majority stock holder arguing forever with Steve and Charles for the tweaking of something like the laden flight characteristics of birds in CM. They probably wouldn't be able to get much done. I'm still waiting to hear if they used one or two coconuts in their flight model!
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Soddball: I don't think the unladen flight speed is modelled accurately either - North American or European.

What I want to know is -Was the laden flight speed modelled with one or two coconuts? If they used two, then I think it should be tweaked a bit, because right now they fly way too fast to be taken seriously. CM just won't be realistic until they do!
