  1. But seriously, I thank everyone for their comments and insight. I usually buy games after they have been out for awhile, in the bargain bin, etc. My internet connection is garbage, and when I do try to play on line all I ever find are people who want to go newbie hunting, are foul mouthed and generally dislikeable. I am not a wargamer, just like puter games thats all, and I realize I am not the target audience. I do this just to get away from reality. I don't think you will find your experience with CM similar to the one's you've described above. CM doesn't appeal to those who're underdeveloped either in intellect or maturity. You may well be handed your head by experienced players, but they'll give you some advice too. A poor internet connection really isn't an issue since the game is played by emailing orders - something that requires very little band width, quite unlike a RTS. In my experience the only other game that came or comes close to CM is TacOps. Yes, you're going to pay more than the cost of a game in the bargain bin. On the up side, as so many have said, you'll get so much use out of the software that it will be a bargain by comparison. [ 07-16-2001: Message edited by: rob d ]
  2. Jarmo, why would the hull machine gun go out of action if the commander is hit? Does the radio operator/machine gunner move up into the turret?
  3. well ... don't I feel like a total idiot. I've been playing this game for over year, and I didn't even know that was there. Thanks for clearing up this "problem" for me.
  4. I'm having trouble with the unit's path continuing to be displayed after the unit is "unselected". What happens is that during the orders phase, every single unit with a movement order has its path plotted and displayed. Looks like a colourful spider web. The paths disappear during the combat phase. This is a problem that suddenly appeared after months of happiness. A Mac G4, Radeon card, system 9.1 I have the latest ATI drivers etc according to a web search and "software update"
  5. My uncle was a tank commander with the Southern Alberta Tank Regiment in WWII. (did I get that right? I'm sure about the Southern Alberta but not the tank regiment part) Anyway, he said that his crew over loaded the tank with ammunition every time they resupplied. They'd fill the storage areas, and cover the floor of the turret as well. He said this was the only way to avoid running out of ammunition.
  6. I finished a History 300 course earlier in the year - included in the selected readings was an academic article that referred to the JagdTiger as having the first operational thermal sights, going on to say they weren't improved upon siginficantly until the 1960's. I don't know if I can find the article again or not - has anyone else heard of this?
  7. I have two Macs (G4/400 and IMac 350) on a LAN with a Linksys router. I have been unable to configure the machines for LAN play - the client machine cannot find the host. I have set port forwarding on both machines for 7023 and later for 7022~7024. I have tried local IP addresses (192.168 etc) as well as the host machine's actual IP address. Nothing works - internet access from both machines is otherwise flawless, so they are configured properly. The latest system extensions from v1.1 are installed in both machines. Any suggestions? I'm getting tired of just playing the computer...
