Upping CAFE (gas mileage) was not too shabby either. -
Battle Breaker Bugs and Such

I think the point is how were they used in combat. I have read no reports that in combat ATGs were rolled back and forth. The accounts I have read have had them in cover and firing at the enemy, no tactical rolling back and forth. Doug -
CM Italy being seen as a Trojan Virus!!!
barrage replied to Joe Perez's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
I had the same problem. One solution after the exe disappears, very frustrating after the download, is to wait a couple of minutes. A window will pop up from Norton, you can then indicate the exe is ok and bring the exe back. After that everything will be ok. Doug -
Maybe its the wires and the stakes that hold up all the plants (grapevines)?

Being Spotted By Planes?
barrage replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
In CMx1 there was a definite advantage to being parked by at least one building or in the woods. I do not have direct experience with this for CMx2. -
Map design - problems with bridges

I don't know if this will help... I had trouble placing waypoints along the bank of a river. The problem was solved by rotating the view point until I could look almost straight down on the bank. -
I think I set up my ambush behind at least some low bocage...
-
I have noticed, at least at the squad level, there is peeking during hiding. I set up an ambush with a hiding squad and set the covered arc. When the enemy troops crossed the covered arc the squad unhid and executed the ambush. I was watching beforehand, at various times a soldier peeks up to see what is going on.

This has happened to me also. However I was able to redeploy my forces to the center of the map around the objective during the setup phase. Did you try to redeploy around the objective?
-
Variable time endings might be built in already. I played an armour vs armour qb last week. Neither side owned the objective at the end of play. Another 3 minutes of playing time was added.

I have the 7zip utility. It is free and it does decompress rar files.
-
Based on my experience with hiding troops given a covered arc, they will attack enemy troops entering their covered arc. If you watch closely, even for hidden troops, someone will be getting up and spotting occasionally.

The best kind of fire extinguisher

IMHO I think people in the gaming media today got into gaming through FPS's or fantasy games. So they do not understand the CM type of game. The last game review of CM I read, at least 5 years ago, I thought the reviewer was completely confused. I thought he probably had not spent enough time getting into the game. And wrote a poor review that reflected his poor understanding of the game. -
I had control of a broken squad at the end of a game. I don't know the experience level of the squad. I was able to order the squad to ford a river in the face of light fire and then attack the firing infantry.

Smaller ATG's can be pushed around in the game. It takes a looong time tho.

As far as I know it does not exist. CMx2 is more like RL , you don't know where the shot is coming from, you have to get eyes on the shooter somehow

Can't get units properly into foxholes/trenches
barrage replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I ordered my squad into the trench, then move along the trench. Eventually they all jumped in the trench. -
CMBN full game vs Norton AV
barrage replied to Stingray's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I had a problem downloading demo. Norton scrubbed it off the 'puter after the download I had to turn off the real time anti virus (settings, antivirus, real-time protection), then install both demo and later the game. After the install everything has worked well I wanted to say kudos to BF for a very smooth release Doug -
I am glad to hear there will be another patch.

V1.02 Game File Conversion Oddity
barrage replied to Bruno Weiss's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Wait! It gets more confusing! I've had an opponent who says he upgraded to 1.02 that I was unable to open with 1.02 on my machine. And an opponent ditto that I am still opening and exchanging turns with my 1.01 version. Doug -

Appologies to Ivan_RU and Sgt Goody, did not realize the password problem was fixed. I'll get out my set up over the next couple of days. Doug -

Really disappointed, but I understand your feeling that the tourney was compromised. Hope you can work up your enthusiasm for another at some point in time. Thanks for the work you put in! Doug -
Other scenario ideas: Armored/mechanized breakouts. Do you think there are good scenarios or operations? I was visualizing a large map with the defender having to place blocking forces to cover several avenues of advance. Either defending a particular site or blocking enemy from exiting from an area. The attacker would have a choice of lanes for advance. River crossings either opposed or unopposed. I'd like to see more of these type scenarios. My 2 cents. Doug
