1. I just got CMBB today and I got Tacops 4 last Tuesday. I just want to express how pleased I am with both of these products. Both games are miles above any mass market wargames in terms of quality and depth. The AI in CMBB is downright frightening! Computers shouldn't think this realistically. Let me also just say that the manual is top notch. I am impressed. Furthermore, I want to thank whoever it was at BTS or Battlefront that gave the ok to produce a game that plays directly off of the hard drive!!!!!!!! I scratched my copy of CMBO the first week that I had it and I had to repair it with a CD doctor. As anal as I am about the condition my game CD's, I was sickened. I love that I can install CMBB and put the disc away until I need to install it again. This gesture shows that BTS and Battlefront see its players as a cut above the rest of the more dishonest society. Tacops also plays off the Hard Drive. Thanks Major! I want to say that I absolutely love the packaging for Tacops!!! It is the definition of hardcore independent game development. Kudos to Battlefront, you are my favorite PC game publisher.
2. I was just wondering if you have ever thought about making a Windows CE (or palm) version of Tacops. PDA's are everywhere these days and but I don't know of any good or even passable wargames for these portable platforms. Chess aside, I can't think of any game that would lend itself more perfectly to a PDA platform than Tacops. I don't know what this kind of undertaking would involve, but I thought that I might throw out the idea. I would guess that Windows CE is somewhat similar to Windows 9x??!. If I am way off, please forgive me. Anyway, I am sure everyone on these boards will agree with me. With everyone getting a PDA these days, I am sure that many other people would be willing to pony up some cash for the game as well.
3. Have you ever thought about making a version of Tacops for a Windows CE? I just bought Tacops 4 and I love it (more than Combat Mission even). I would gladly pay another 25 dollars for a portable version for my Jornada PDA. I have no idea how difficult it would be to port a Windows 95/98 app over to Windows CE, but I can think of no other game that would be more perfect for that OS. Just an Idea.
4. I went ahead and purchased the Tacops 3.0 CD. I think it's worth the upgrade. I also bought a copy of the original game from a guy on ebay so I could get the original manual. It seems to cover most of the game. I like a paper manual. I DO, however, like the 20.00 price tag that a manual on the CD ROM can provide.
5. I am fairly new to wargaming. I bought Combat Mission because of the rave reviews that it is getting. It has since become my favorite game of all time. Now I am interested in trying more wargames. (In addition to CM, I am currently addicted to The Operational Art of War and Tacops). I just downloaded a demo of Close Combat: Invasion Normandy. This was my first experience with any game in that series. I found the gameplay to be very familiar. The game plays almost exactly like a 2-d Combat Mission but in real time. NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN INSULT IN ANY WAY!!! I was just wondering if Close Combat was the inspiration for the design of Combat Mission.
6. That abandonware site still has Tacops 1.0 for Windows available as "freeware"...it says that you gave permission for them to distribute the game on their site. If you want to, the webmaster of that site will gladly remove the game and add a link to www.battlefront.com so people who want to can purchase the new V 3.0. All you need to do is email them. If you aren't aware of the website, I can let you know who they are via email (deelee74@midamer.net). I don't want to advertise the site on here. Tacops is their 8th most downloaded wargame...(2757 downloads).
7. I recently bought Combat Mission from this website. When I first came to the site, something caught my eye....TACOPS 3.0!! This sounded familiar. Then it came to me...I have the original Tacops 1.0 on a cd rom of various games that a friend gave me. He downloaded the game from an abandonware site. I played it (after an hour tutorial session ) The game is great. It has even taken away some of my zeal for playing Combat Mission. I am wondering if the difference between v 1.0 and v 3.0 is substantial enough to warrant a purchase of the updated version. I downloaded the Tacops 3.0 demo. I could see no difference at all in the game itself. The only noticeable difference seemed to be in the appearance of the start menu interface.
8. Knock it off!
quote:
Originally posted by John Hough: Good. Jerks deserve to be annoyed.

9. I was just wondering if there will ever be a strategy guide released for CMBO. I would like to have a more in-depth reference for the weapons, troops...etc. Would anyone else buy one?
