  1. I have been putting off purchasing CMBB because I wanted to get the Strategy Guide at the same time. I thought I might save on S&H or possible even be able to purchase them as a bundle at a reduced cost. Does anyone know when the Strategy Guide will be aviailable? Any ideas if there will be a "bundled" offer? Anybody know what has possessed me to wait this long to buy CMBB?
  2. I was about to order this book but given all the update needed, I'd like to wait until corrected. Anyone have any idea if an update will be coming any time soon? Or is it not worth waiting since it may be some time before available?
  3. I don't know if it's piracy but I do know this is the second one this person has sold. They had the exact same item up for bid which ended mid last week. Then one day later the same item is up for bid again. BTW, it sold for around $30. [ December 22, 2002, 12:01 AM: Message edited by: sluggo ]
  4. I used to play hotseat with my girlfriend but then we got married...(rim shot) Seriously, I find playing hotseat against myself to be a good learning tool. Helps me understand when I can see the enemy and when they can see me in different terrain/environment settings. I've never played hotseat against someone but I think I would prefer some way to directly connect two PC and play head to head without going through the net. Sluggo
  5. From the CM Manual (pg 109): "Battle Type - Assault, Attack, Probe or Meeting Engagement. This determines the force balancing (how many points the defender gets, how many the attacker), the map size, whether the defender may have fortifications, as well as victory flag placement." That's all I know.
  6. I've noticed with the new forum that all the folders on the left-hand side are yellow. Even the ones that have no new post since I last visited. These should be white. Anyone know what's going on? Sluggo
  7. I thought you could upgrade a pbem game if both players were upgrading the game from say 1.10 to 1.12. Does this not also work for upgrading from the demo version to the full version?
  8. I got a friend of mine to try the demo and we have started a pbem game. He now has the full version and we'd like to use that for our game. Assuming we both have the same version of CM, can we move our game from the demo and how? I did a search and couldn't find this anywhere. Thanks.
  9. I was looking for some help myself. I downloaded and installed Virtual Drive. Seems to be very straight forward. What I'm not of is (assuming I've created the virtual copy of CM correctly) how do I switch CM from looking at my CDRom drive and start looking at this new drive? Sluggo
  10. I truely enjoyed playing SL and ASL but rarely had the time to play a complete game in one sitting. And I never had the time to play frequently enough to "learn" the rules and get good at the game. Therefore, every game I spent a lot of time rereading important rules and setting up. Now with CM I don't have to worry about having time to complete a game (although I usually do finish even if it take all night). I still have the problem, however, of not having enough time to play so I'm still not any good. At least now I have fun playing bad.
  11. I can't speak to the lower res = more sound question but I do have a point about the ambient sound. I had it turned on from the very beginning of my CM playing. Then one day I turned it off and suddenly I began hearing the soldier's voices much better. With the ambient sound on I rarely heard someone shout "My leg" or "Move 'em out" or whatever. Now I hear them loud and clear. Being able to hear these is giving me a heads up about the enemy and other things.
  12. At first I was frustrated by the LOS tool and wanted something that would allow me to check LOS from any point on the map. I have come to realize this would give me too much power/control and now I like the game the way it is. I do have two points however. If I have a unit it should be able to quickly look around it's current position and see what it can see. In CM I can technically use the LOS tool to do this myself. However, this takes a long time checking every point on the map. Having a tool to quickly tell me what I can already find out if I take the time with the current tool would not decrease the realism in my opinion. It would just save time for those of us who are lazy or in a hurry. Because of non-CM committments I may have only a half hour window to complete two or three PBEM turns. I don't take the time to check LOS sometimes when I should (of course this is not the only reason I'm losing most of my games ). As for checking LOS from a non-occupied spot I agree we don't need this. However, it would be nice to have something similar to the Hunt command for infantry. That way you could tell a unit 'move toward this point but stop and shot once you can see that machine gun'. It doesn't make much sense to tell a unit to move somewhere and then they just get there and sit because they can't see anything. There should be some way to move until you can see something. My 2 cents.
  13. One other thing here. Assuming you could get these inviso mods on your opponents computer (right!) they would not see your tank and therefore would be putting in orders as if it wasn't there. But...the AI would "see" it and override your opponents orders in self preservation. The mods are just a graphical representation of whats going on inside the computer. I believe the AI would still be able to target it as it always does.
