1. Problem solved. Thanks for all the replys. I think it was the updates that did it.
2. Nope, that's not it. I unzipped them. But thanks for the response. I haven't downloaded the updates so maybe that's the problem.
3. I just made the plunge to CMBB and want to add some really cool player made scenarios I have found. Is there a trick to it? I saved them in the scenario's folder and they don't appear. I saved them in the saved games folder and they don't appear. Yes, I double-checked them to make sure they where CMBB scenarios and everything about the description of what they are to where I found them on the net points to that. What am I doing wrong?!?!
4. Hey! Thanks for the quick response. I was actually coming back here to send another message out that I found several lists (I didn't see the archives down there the first time!) I came to the same conclusion that the weather is probably not bmp files. Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna try that!
5. I recently dusted off the ol game and went to play the classic "Fear in the Fog." I must have tweaked the bmp's a long time ago because i get no fog! I did the ol <Alt> W (or is it <Shift> W) LOL I know I did the right one because I read it off of the help menu. Anyway. It didn't work. I'm thinking I deleted the bmp's or replaced them or something and have long lost the originals (save on the cd itself) basically I want to try to just restore the fog if possible. Come to think if it. Is it even a bmp?!?!! Thanks for any help you can give! PS I tried a search but came up blank.
6. A valid tactic when the proverbial dukie has hit the fan. In my long, illustrious career in CMBO I've had to resort to that tactic three times that I can remember. Currently my record is Infantry: 2 and Tanks: 1. (Panzerfaust's where not involved in any of the encounters. Just ol fashion grenades) Am I to understand that they do not tend to do this in CMBB. BTW, I haven't played CMBB and really don't intend too. I was never a big fan (for lack of a better term) of the Eastern Front.
7. I've noticed in the past that when I use the hunt/reverse command my tank will take a few shots and then back down the hill if the target is dead or not. I know Shermans tend to back up (unordered) when they see a Tiger, hehehe. Maybe it has something to do with that. Although, now that I think of it, it's happened when I'm playing the German side too. Either way it works out good.
8. I agree about the desparation attack, but sometimes it's all you have. With that said, if you ever have to do it. I've used the split squad command with some success. The down side is one of the teams tend to break easily and usually get dead fast. The up side is if you time it right, someone gets to the tank and at least has a chance of killing it. DON'T TRY IT WITH GREEN TROOPS THOUGH! I used this tactic awhile ago to get a pesky Sherman that attempted and end around on a immobile jagr that was giving him fits. Sherman 0, Infantry 1.
9.
quote:
Originally posted by Ron Lee: Hey you guys about destroying armor with infantry, none of you seem to considering the crew moral of the AFV. If this can be lowered enough, then the crew of the AFV would abandon the vehicle.

Where is the command for shouting nasty things at the tank crews?
10. I once had and unfortunate encounter with a Panzer IVH. It was unfortunate because I only had a Greyhound to deal with the threat. Without getting into the specifics of the encounter, I KO'ed the Panzer with 1 shot. Penetrating the turret and killing the tank. Funny, that one kill completely turned the outcome of the battle around. [ 10-06-2001: Message edited by: nedlam ]
11. I use daisy-chain mines to make my opponent go in a direction I want him to go. (i.e. usually around them) where I have set up the real thing. Or by placing them in the road you force your opponent to move off the road and possibly into the mud, scattered trees, or brush where he might become immobilized. I also us it to try to get my opponents to fall right into a AT ambush. Nedlam
12. I recently played a PBEM where we both had a fair ammount of artillery to play with. The deciding factor (IMHO) was he was stuck out in the open (more or less), where I was hunkered down in a village. Sure after a few turns the buildings started falling down around us but in the end he took the worst of it. So stay in the woods some cover is better than no cover at all. You might suffer some casualties but the overall moral of the unit has a better chance of staying intact. Nedlam
13.
quote:
Originally posted by dalem: C'mon, a cinder block held over my head by someone who wants my wallet is a "terror weapon". A weapon is a weapon, and being terrified of any one of them is quite a rational decision. Let's not assist in the complication of the language to no purpose, hmm? This isn't the six o'clock news. -dale

Your right, of course. What I was trying to say by a weapon of terroris you'll have a better chance to get a large number of troops to duck and cover with arty then say with a MG unit or even a platoon of infantry. Hehehe, now that I think about it the term "terror weapon" does sound like something you would hear on CNN.
14. I've just never had much success with on board mortars before. Then again, maybe that's the 1st time I use them correctly
15. Rockets are kind of a weapon of terror IMHO. Come to think of it, artillery in general are terror weapons. If I'm not mistaken, they are cheaper to buy and you get bigger caliber rounds, but you give up accuracy. Oh, MrSpkr, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Can't we all just get along?
16. I hope you plan on writing HQ and recommending that FO for the Silver Star! I am currently in a PBEM and the Germans had an AT gun that was giving me fits. Anyway, one of my HQ units happened to have LOS on it and that HQ unit had a 60mm mortar team attached to it. I had 17 shells left as it was my last option I figured what the heck. The second shell that fell knocked out the gun! (That team is getting the distinguished Service Cross) hehehe
17. The only time I use the ambush command with armor is when I've positioned it early in the battle where I am almost sure my enemy hasn't the slightest clue where it is. I'll hide it and set the ambush. (This has happened twice maybe three times since I've begun playing about a year ago now I think)
18. Hehehe, I just loged on to ask the same question. I read (in the manual) I think that using "area fire" will suppress the enemy but how large of an area will that affect? One tile maybe? If there is only one squad in that tile would it just be better to aim directly at the enemy? Oh yeah and does it make a difference if your using infantry or let's say a machine gun. (let's say it's a 50 cal MG that is currently moving into position and need to get an order very soon as to what he is suppose to target) hehehe Nedlam [ 08-07-2001: Message edited by: nedlam ]
19. In a current PBEM battle i've use the FT's strictly in defense. One was used to set a wheat field on fire to deny the enemy the only possible approach with cover. The other I used to cover the movement of some of my troops caught out in the middle of nowhere. I set some woods and brush on fire. The ensuing smoke and flames worked as a nice screen for my boys. I've never really had much success with them offensively. Save the occasions firey burst that would make an infantry unit wet there pants and start running. But then they FT would get lit up by the surrounding unitsthe very nesxt turn, if not sooner. Nedlam
20. Yeah gotta out flank them. Which is easier said than done. SURE!! their stationary. But getting out of there field of fire is usually a chore (smoke) and then what is lurking in the woods around them? Rushing a pill box head on sure looks great in the movies, but in real life (and in CM) it's a real good way to get your troops dead. Nedlam
21. Using the markers are only 10% of what's required to set up and effective ambush. location, timing, execution, escape. All these have to come into play when your trying execute an ambush. Ambushes are a great tool too, one which cannot be ignored. I once laid waste to an entire armored column with just one platoon of regular SS troops. Of course that depends on how you calculate a victory. I destroyed a few large pieces of armor, several light vehicles and cause some casualties to his infantry. The big victory was in the delay I cause and the mass confusion that followed my attack. (note: It wasn't just the one platoon per se, I did coordinate the attack with a FO dropping rockets on the area right after I got my men out of there. It was so close a few rockets made my boys duck as well) Besides it's fun to watch it all come together and watch the other guy panic (I've been on the receiving end of an ambush and it aint fun) Nedlam "I soiled my armor!" ~Sir Robin
22. There was a gentleman in the Massachusetts area that recently received the Medal of Honor for calling arty on his position. He managed to save his platoon but was killed in the process. Nedlam
23. Another trick I use for moving large columns of vehicles is to used my commmand delay and spread them apart. It's only about 15 seconds or so but it keeps them moving rather than them rear ending the vehicle infront of them and then stopping all together. The idea of resizing the icons is a good one too, I use it all the time. It gives you a better idea on who can fit where on the road. Another trick, when your setting up waypoints look at the terrain the waypoint is dragging across and make sure it never turns red or else you'll have the AI doing all sorts of things to get the vehicle from point A to point B. Nedlam
24. I prefer the fighting retreat. Your men are going to take a moral hit anyway if they get caught in an ambush and they're probably gonna die too. So why not go down fighting and take the enemy with you. Using the command delay (for let's say a platoon). I Stagger their retreat. One squad pulls out as the other two lay down cover fire (as best they can). When the 1st squad repositions the next is ready to go. Hopefully the squad that retreated is in a position to lay cover fire (LOS still good). I then move the final squad w/ the Command unit back last. I think this is called leap frogging, I'm not sure. Onlt I'm doing it backwards (most of the time too ).
25. Hehehe, MOVE, SNEAK, RUN, GET THE HELL OUTTA DODGE commands. In all seriousness, they wouldn't need a ne command. Just make the unit exausted or weary after they run 50 yards? 100 yards? 200 yards? I dunno. Where is that acetylene bottle? I'll run some tests. Nedlam
