  1. I hardly think the unwashed, ungrog masses are lining up for detailed simulations of WWII tactical combat in any theater.

I'm more interested in the Western Front as a whole because my father fought there. I'd dare say that were he still above ground, he'd love to take anybody who dismisses the fighting in the West as dull back in time and show them that it was at least a tad exciting to those who were involved in contending with the teenagers and old men.

Eastern Front gaming is fine, I started out with "The Russian Campaign" from AH back in the dark ages and harbor no illusions that any one country had a monopoly on valor, power, sacrifice or effort.

I'm happy to see as much of WWII as possible covered by CM, and would like to see a Pacific version, although I know that's unlikely for several reasons.

  2. I have faith in the community. I'm sure that there will be plenty of great maps available, and even if they aren't forthcoming as Quick Battle maps, they'll be part of scenarios and campaigns, and if I want I can just import the map for use as a QB map, no?

While I'd love to see every feature from CMBO make the leap to the new game, it's a trade I'll gladly make for the fascinating gameplay that CMBN has to offer. Maybe one day there will be flamethrowers, CQB,, and random maps. In the meantime I'm happily occupied.

  3. I wasn't expecting them to be the house of sticks and blow them down by huffing and puffing if the Germans wouldn't let me in by the hair of their chinny chin chins. :-)

I'd say it's reasonable to expect that a bunker occupied by three men armed with rifles, or one armed with a pistol, would be vulnerable to a group of a dozen men with demolition charges and grenades.

My father used to tell some gruesome stories about the effect of several satchel charges inserted through firing slits on the occupants of multilevel concrete bunkers.

I don't think they should be easily demolished, but I think once the attackers outside it are free to move about due to a lack of fire from other positions, they should be vulnerable to grenades and demolition charges, or even prolonged small arms attack through the slits.

It's quite possible I'm simply going about it the wrong way in game.

  4. Has anybody had any luck with infantry attacking bunker occupants? I just had trouble with this in the Brecourt Manor scenario.

I tried blasting with demo charges and targeting from door side, the rear, in front and every other angle I could think of with no damage done to the happy occupants, even though the bunker itself was listed as "knocked out", IIRC.

I got a penetration result with a bazooka, but the officer inside shrugged it off and kept popping away at my guys with his pistol, and the amount of 9mm ammo in the bunker never went down. I could get my riflemen to fire at him from short range when in front of the slit, but they couldn't hit him and he couldn't hit them.

Nobody in the bunkers seemed inclined to surrender, and after several turns of trying to kill or capture them I just left, as all the other Germans had skedaddled.

  5. Lol you're kidding yourself.

A major developer would make it 10 hours playability, Xbox/PS3 friendly, and dumbed down so a retarded monkey could play it.

I'm a retarded monkey, and even I found I could make the transition from CMBO to CMBN interface.

Yes, there are some features and functions from CMBO I miss, but the new game is quite entertaining and addictive.

  6. Great fun.

    Things I miss -

    Adjustable waypoints.

    Hand to hand combat.

    Bailed crews being shocked.

Things that could be better -

    Voice acting.

Individual sound files for each weapon (Thompson not being the same as an MP-40)

The funny half standing KIA graphics

Overall, a must-have, thank you for making this.

  7. IIRC, this was a feature that was discussed shortly after the original CMBO demo was released, and probably before that.

I'd think that having the game replay in full while you could zoom around and change views like you can in IL-2 would be ideal, but that's a dream that will be realized by a future generation of CM players long after we have gone to the great Quick Battle in the sky.
