more questions Re:cover arcs + hiding
Liebchen replied to Juardis's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Weasle, I may have missed it, but it sounds as if you didn't try this scenario: Germans stationary, cover arc to the front, and not hiding. -

Oops. That was before I saw your winterized mod. Shouldn't they have snow on their roofs? -

The results wouldn't distinguish between minefield kills and off-board arty kills, would it?

Sweet! Thanks, I'll take 'em both. Keep up the good work. -
Do you realize that you spent much more time and energy fretting and complaining on the board than you could have spent just looking inside the package? Anyways, have a good time, now that you've looked...

BFC - Release Date Shipping Question
Liebchen replied to MrSpkr's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I think that the opening questions are a little overwrought. Like the release of the game -- which was released when it was ready -- the answer is simple: You will receive it when you receive it. There's not a damned thing that you can do about it. In fact, if you worry about it too much, you might just send out enough brainwaves to disrupt your karma flow, resulting in your CD ending up misdelivered or delivered in damaged condition. Just go with the flow. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine that you're sitting by a beautiful lakeshore -- with a laptop on your lap playing CMBB, of course! -
Which begs the question, "Why are mortar crews so damned fragile, anyways?"
-
I think his point was that they should be able to use TRPs in the game. My guess would be that this would be based upon having pre-ranged certain potential targets.

I believe that Sergei had it right: -- Position (Loadout) 1. Spotter (Binoculars, extra ammo, rifle) 2. Gunner (Heavy machine gun) 3. Loader/feeder (Tripod, rifle) 4. Ammo bearer #1 (Extra barrels, rifle) 5. Ammo bearer #2 (Ammo boxes, rifle) 6. Ammo bearer #3 (Ammo boxes, rifle) Not a researched answer, just an off-the-cuff answer based upon past reading...

Just a request: Could you please title your threads more specifically? "A question" and "Another question" hardly give a clue about the contents of the thread. There have been SOOO many posts to this MB over the last ten days that I find I must pick and choose what I read...

Didn't he participate in Operation Uranus? I can't recall which front, though...

Lend Lease, and giving the Sherman its due
Liebchen replied to Grisha's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Related topic: Of the U.S. forces, the merchant marine suffered per capita losses second only to the U.S.M.C. These were civilians, not draftees. Don't know how many know that. Side note: the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (aka Kings Point) was also the only academy to send students into harm's way. It is, therefore, the only Federal Academy with a battle standard honoring their dead. (Yes, I'm a Kings Point grad. ) -

BFC Did not make any improvments in CMBB
Liebchen replied to WWB's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Well, let's see: a) He's Head Honcho at Boots'n'Tracks website, His list of improvements include Doodads, More terrain, Imporved MGs, Variable Rarity, Russians, Hungarians, Partisans, Italians, Finns, Death Clock, Improved penetration model, Improved MGs, Improved 3d Models, Improved Operations, Optics, Wind, Living Fire, Variable Turn Endings, Higher Quality skins, Assault Order, Advance Order, Human Waves, Cover Arcs, Vehicle Command and Control, Extreme Fog of War. I would guess that Bill just forgot to use an emoticon -- or just assumed that the sarcasm was fairly dripping from his post. [ September 10, 2002, 01:51 PM: Message edited by: Liebchen ] -
I've seen photos of the Russian recovery units in action. They're T-34 hulls without the turret and with large tow-hitches on the ends. Given the high risk of Russian tankers bailing from punctured tanks, I would imagine that there were many recoverable and operable T-34s out there. Just look at the German usage, for example...

Citadel : Bogging in steppe ?
Liebchen replied to Zarquon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Perhaps "bogging" should be referred to in the game as "stalling" or some such... -
As you all know, in both CM games a tank that fires at infantry is given the menu choice of firing the main gun or the MG. In CMBO I almost always chose main gun due to its heavy blast having more effect than wimpy CMBO MGs. (Exceptions were units with 20mm at close range where I might choose to use MG fire.) With the advent of improved MG effects in CMBB, how many of you will have to stop and think about this choice when firing?

CMBB Complete Armored Resource Library
Liebchen replied to Chad Harrison's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
That caught my eye, as well. Then I got to thinking... If I commanded a T-34/m41, I'd rather be loader. I'd rather have a gunner ready at that sight, while I scan for targets. Once I found one, I'd direct the gunnie to it and, with their attention properly focused, I'd duck down to grab the next round.
