  1. Sorry, Kuroi, I used an online translator for that quote. :(

Good to hear about the pause feature, though. (Was that already there and I missed it, or was it really added at my suggestions?)

Oh, and Bob -- he's my brother in law, not my uncle.

  2. Why, oh why, is there no pause command?

It happens frequently enough that I'm in the middle of a dogfight and the phone rings or something comes up. The best that I can do is turn off the sound and keep clicking, but it's hard to converse and play at the same time, at least coherently.

What harm would it do to have a pause button? For solo games (all bots), this should present absolutely no problem. For multiplayer games, the button could require everyone to click on and off, so that everyone's cool with the pause.

  3. So it boils down to the engagement ranges and deployments. If it is, indeed, an ambush, the ambushees should be deployed in some formation reflecting relative unpreparedness (i.e. perhaps column with guns hitched and troops mounted), while the ambushers should be deployable in close range, perhaps on the flanks, in good cover.

Why is that? Some Persian girl give you the cold shoulder or something?

If there is any People in that part of the world that really digs western culture, it is the Iranians. The problem is the Ayatollahs in charge, not the regular folks. Just like with other ideologically-oriented governments in the world, the leadership is not necessarily representative of the people.

So if a unit in march mode is suddenly dumped into a tactical mode, they'd obviously know that they're about to be ambushed. Clearly, they'd deploy and quite likely make a sweep of suspected ambush locations, thus defeating the surprise element almost completely, right?
  6. Dale, don't be a pr*ck.

I don't necessarily agree with Zemke, but I hear his concerns. I choose to have some expectation that the makers of CM:BB will hew to their previously established standard of quality. But by keeping this hope, I am not necessarily earning the right to treat others like sh*t -- and neither have you.

Let's just wait until the demo comes out and see how we all -- individually -- like it. Some of us will love it to death, some of us will find it OK, and some of us will be frustrated or repulsed by it. SO WHAT? If someone else doesn't like it as much as you do, are you going to track them down and slap them around? Of course not.

Now Zemke is simply expressing what many loyal players are feeling. By being a regular and consistent player of CM (which I know him to be) he has earned the right to express him frustration. SO does it hurt you to LET HIM?

    Sheesh!

Do buy the game and enjoy. Let those who wish it had been otherwise mope. Your insults are not helping either them or us, OK?

    You do that.

Meanwhile, the calmer and (dare I say it?) more broad-minded portion of the wargaming community will be enjoying detailed small unit combat simulations in an ultra-realistic setting.

We will continue enjoying CMBB and CMAK for our dose of WW2 tactical combat, of course. We also might venture into other games, some of which might even *GASP* be non-wargames. (Oh Heavens!)

Then, when the WW2 game using the CMx2 engine comes out, you can play catch up with those of us who have mastered the game system and the refined tactics.

  8. Will there be a way to set up games where only pilots of skill level x throuh y are involved?

I'm anticipating that I may be an intermittent player and if I always get lined up with pilots with three times the skill of mine, it may not be too much fun...

  9. Can't the server check to see if the disconnect happened after a fatal attack card was played? I mean, the server is running all of the calculations, isn't it? (Or is the PC at home doing that?)

In any event, I like the Bot idea. It works for me. A player in deadly peril can 'zone out' of the dogfight, if he wants to, but his fighter'll still be taking rounds.
