  1. Shatter, it would be fantastic to hear the stories. First hand accounts are the best kind. We will look forward to hearing them when you get time down the road. Take care.
  2. As usual, well reasoned, BTS. Can't say thank you too many times for everything you do.
  3. God grant you and your family strength, peace, and many fond memories.
  4. Tiger, just when I think I have a true appreciation for your talents, I find out you will be doing skins for MW4. Since it comes out today, this will be the only "other game" I play, in the near future. I'm can't wait to pilot an AWS-9M with the three color over tan cammo like your King Tiger. Seriously, though, I am looking forward to seeing what you do.
  5. Thanks for the great link. Two things really jumped out at me. One, that in a tank v tank engagement, american tanks should fire one AP round. If that does not destroy the target, then fire willy pete to cover a potential flanking move. You have to love GSP, ever the champion of manuever, even at the lowest tactical level. The other thing was that bazookas are not to be used as offensive weapons, with teams out hunting armor. Rather, they are last ditch defensive weapons to protect infantry from armored overrun, and shouldn't be used at more than 30 yards range. A very interesting set of orders.
  6. Don't forget the IT-130. The Soviets fielded a TD based on the T-62 hull with a 130mm cannon well into the 70's. IIRC, it was the only afv to utilize that weapon as its powerful recoil could not be contained in the T-62's turret at that time. A very interesting vehicle that western intelligence sources denied the existence of until defectors and satellite photos verified it.
  7. It is a great operation. I played as the Germans and ended up with a total victory and 132 allied vehicles destroyed. To tell you the truth, I don't recall there being that many, but the landscape was littered with wrecks. My favorite was one of the Mk IV's in the last reinforcement group. He survived with 3 firefly kills and several other kills. A real gunslinger.
  8. 120mm mortar FO. Once killed 22 assorted vehicles and god knows how many infantry with 1.
  9. And CM models all this beautifully. I had to watch one turn in a recent scenario over and over and just shake my head with appreciation. A King Tiger and a Churchill VII engaged each other at just under 1200m. Both fired at the same time and, oddly enough, scored first round hits. The amazing thing was watching the 88 fly on a nearly flat trajectory, while the 75 arched well above it. Its one thing for game mechanics to account for this, but another altogether to graphically represent it. Needless to say, the Churchill ended up a burning pyre while the 75 bounced.
  10. Don't be self-deprecating, Magua. You are a fantastic artistic talent. I'm looking forward to seeing the Knight's Cross with swords and oak leaves on Von Westerhagen's uniform as he stands in the turret of his King Tiger. Its just a good thing all you wonderful mod makers don't charge for downloads!
  11. One of the problems with CP-RP at the tactical level is that it tends to cause one to commit his attack that may be the very area the enemy would like you to enter, since it is actually a fire sack. Route recon has the advantage of knowing the goal and trying to achieve, rather than looking for the goal and hoping its not illusary. That being said, at a strategic level, I think CP-RP has real merit.
  12. Not realistic at all. Try looking at a small scale map and deciding where the topagraphical elevations are. You may make some educated guesses with good data, but you won't be able to tell perfectly where hull-down, etc, terrain is. I suspect they won't, but please don't waste any time on this BTS.
  13. It makes me sit here with a big dopey grin to think what this game will look like in another 6 months, with the incredibly talented people that contribute their time and efforts to it. Though I have no doubt that CM2 will be beautiful and wonderful, I suspect when it first comes out, we will all be shocked at how far beyond it CMBO has gone with mod after mod. It won't stop us from playing CM2, but this board will be full of begging for hi-res everything 10 minutes after the cd's start arriving in homes.
  14. Zimmerit! Tiger, without a doubt, you are da man.
  15. Matt, Are Fernando's Panther G and Panther G(late) that you recently posted the fixed versions with the correct hull side, or still the original versions before he fixed them? Thanks for everything you do.
  16. I've had the same experience. Infantry ambushes work well, for the most part, but armor ambushes only seem useful when you can boresight an area that constitutes a bottleneck that enemy traffic must pass through while your units sit somewhere safe. The moral of the story is don't use 'em unless you can't be flanked.
  17. Yes, Hiram. I don't know what was up with that clock, probably a big debate over its time accuracy at 2000 meters while traversing the turret at low rpms, but I'm glad they fixed it.
  18. The best part of your AAR was your references to units either running out of ammo, or attacking with the ones that still had a decent amount left. Ammuntion is, of course, probably the biggest limitor on the battlefield. Many battles have been won or lost for want of ammo on one side. I just finished playing a scenario involving the Pegasus Bridge where my PanzerGrenadiers successfully pushed the Tommies out of the area surrounding the bridge only to run low on ammo while defending against a large, determined counterattack. Thus, we had to pull back, and give up our hard fought gains. I just had to grit my teeth and enjoy the realism of it. In a 20 turn game, I would have won a huge victory, but by the end of this much longer one, I had to suffer a narrow defeat. Enjoy your Italian Campaign!
  19. That's the great thing about this game. Anything possible in real life is possible in the game. I had good experiences with Scotland the Brave I and II. Terence, I still recommend you try them. Germanboy's opponent may have made some very bad or very unlucky choices to make their encounter so one-sided, you never know. I always give the AI a bump to make it better, so if you play them solo as the Germans, do that.
  20. Terence, Of the ones I've played so far, for tricky attacks Marechal's Mill and King's Castle. Also Wollersheim. That one is veeery hard. Infatuate II features some terrain you probably haven't seen elsewhere and No Better Spot To Die has some interesting equipment. I, personally, like larger scenarios/ops for the most part. If you do, the layered defenses you talked about can be put into practice in Scotland the Brave I/II, Beast at Bay, Bridge at Cheneux, and First Clash at Stoumont.
  21. Bobbaro, You have renewed my faith in mankind. I knew there had to be some folks out there that enjoy the whole process and the thought involved in it.
  22. I've downloaded almost all of them, being a long time ASL player. I've played several, so far, and have been very happy with them. They have typically been adjusted a bit for balance where they needed it, and it is wonderful to see the maps I knew so well in 3D. Play 'em, you'll like 'em. Col. Klotz' site is one of the best in the CM ring.
  23. Popper, is it possible that your Tiger was positioned such that it couldn't depress the gun barrel far enough down to target the Limey's? If you can set up the same situation again, try moving forward a bit and see if that makes a difference. Just a thought.
