Uniforms for CMMOS
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Aragorn2002's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
AndrewTF (Da Man for CM uni's) has been cranking out winter uniforms. You can grab 'em at the mod database, but I suspect they will show up in CMMOS sometime soon. -

CM3 before the engine rewrite ?
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Sigurd's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, I would call it optimism. I'm not an eye candy addict, but it will keep BFC going in the right direction to keep it looking as good as they can. They made CMBB to run on mid-line comps, and there are a ton of folks still playing on the same comp that wasn't exactly cutting edge when CMBO came out. If you think you can play even just this game (which is almost all I play), and keep a comp for more than 4 years, even with upgrades, then, sorry, you will have to wait on that Hellcats upgrade. Technological advancement is generally a good thing, but damn its expensive. -
CM3 before the engine rewrite ?
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Sigurd's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
This is very wise, but just to keep the optimism there, note Steve's first post on page two of this thread: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=002605;p= -
'HULL DOWN' vs. unknown enemy position?
Vergeltungswaffe replied to vanwag's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
That is typical behavior, if your Panther had no target. It will go along your order line to the end. If you have a definite target, you should put the order marker on top of the intended target, and use a cover armor, of course. But, be damn sure that the terrain is favorable for finding hull-down. I rarely use this command. I prefer to find a small crest or ridgeline and then use shoot and scoot, if my opponent has equal or superior AFV's, or at least till I know whats out there, or a short hunt just to the edge of the ridge if I think my AFV is superior. That way it will be hull-down anyway. -
Fantastic 'Barbarossa' photos
Vergeltungswaffe replied to JaegerMeister's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Actually, I was told about this discussion offline. I am a miniature wargammer - not much of a computer gamer. You can see my kind of games at http://www.command-decision.com. I have heard of battlefront, but have never played. Perhaps I will give it a try. Barry</font> -

RETIRING? What does that mean? As in, stopping modding/CMMOS etc? Say it ain't so. -
If you are referring to pre-game barrages, then, yes, for each time you hit the Q key after giving the initial targetting order on turn 1, the barrage will be delayed by 1 minute. This is very useful is you want to pound an area later in the game just before your troops arrive, so as to have your opponent in as much disarray as possible. It is also sometimes useful on the defense. For instance, if you are defending, targetting the most likely area for your opponent's final assault to come from for a barrage about 10 or so turns from the end can sometimes deny the attacker your victory location(s). Though that one can also easily be considered gamey, as it is highly unlikely that anyone in real life would have the kind of knowledge to predict when an attacker would be knocking on the door. Anyway, hope that answers your question. If you meant delaying a normal fire mission, you can slightly retarget it prior to arrival, to add some time, or, if it has already started, you can slightly retarget (again, a green line so you don't start from scratch on the timer) to put a little delay, though usually less than a full turn. But I often do that to conserve ammo.

Efficiency in flamethrowing
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Dr. Rosenrosen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I thought the manual said that you can hit the Pause button multiple times for 10 seconds each? Can't you do that? Or is there too much order delay?</font> -

What happens to the points?
Vergeltungswaffe replied to joeski's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It doesn't appear to be based on points. I don't have the manual with me at my office, but IIRC, rougly 10% of your units in a QB will be one class better or worse. It tends to work out fairly evenly, but I have had a platoon of 4 tanks, purchased regular, turn up as 1 reg and 3 vet, and I have had an infantry company purchased regular, turn up with 5 of 9 squads as green. All in all, you will still be very close to your original points, and I am certain that you can end up over, to a small degree. -
Over short distances, yes, absolutely. It, like advance, represents well, IMHO, having troops pull back in an orderly fashion, dashing and using available cover. Again, IMHO, it is not gamey at all to advance or assault to retreat. Withdraw is the equivalent of the squad leader yelling "Haul Ass!" and the troops having a chinese fire drill to get out of dodge.

Air power often does horrendous damage. Sometimes, its even to the enemy. Seriously though, those points are better spent on arty most of the time, though the Soviet delays make them tough to use well for anything other than pre-game bombardments.

You need to get Treeburst155 to run one of his patented blue collar tests of 100 trials each involving several different AFV matchups. -
Spotting bug and stupid TacAI
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Quenaelin's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Also, if you have ever looked at something with the naked eye, then tried to find it through binoculars, or vice versa, its not always as easy as it might seem. Add to that, being shot at, bumping along, etc., and going from unbuttoned to buttoned definitely doesn't mean immediate reacquisition of whatever you had spotted. -

WATER AND FORD MOD, not magnetic mines
Vergeltungswaffe replied to Tanks a Lot's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, that was a weird glitch. There are a few modders whose work you would just d/l and install whether there was a preview pic or not, because you know it will be awesome. You are one of the folks on that short list. -

Operations: vehicle repair/ recovery
Vergeltungswaffe replied to landser's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The crew does NOT have to exit, just survive. So don't use 'em for scouts, etc. I have not had a situation where a crew has been far out from the frontlines and gotten padlocked. Not sure if the game engine will do that with crews. It it does, obviously, you will have to sneak them back into your own lines, but my hunch is that if you hide them in good cover and they survive, then they will do fine. It may be possible if an op has several nights in it, but, in my experience, only abandoned vehicles have been repaired, never knocked out ones (whether they brewed up or not).
