  1. They can take their time. Something even better than CMBO (best computer wargame ever) is worth waiting for.......
  2. All I want is a idea on when the release date is. My Wife already has "the wish list" and CMBB is at the top of the list...... I gather that this question just isn't asked? (or at least just isn't answered.)
  3. Well I don't want to pass judgement, as this field isn't my area of expertise (more into ww2 aviation) however most of the hit tables "developed" by armies were done in the friendly confines of training bases. This is true of musketry tests of the 7 year war, and even today. Combat conditions are much different. People generally react much differently when being shot at. My own view on this (and its only a hunch) is that for the average trooper, these theoretical tables should be chopped by at least 1/2 maybe more in combat conditions. The advantage of veterans isn't that they are necessarily better shots, but that they keep their wits better and can begin to approach the hit probability results garnered on the stress-free firing ranges. Overall I don't see how such things could be anything but a "best guess" anyway - taking the theoretical tables and adjusting them down to the levels resulting from combat conditions. So in the final analysis there really isn't an emperical way to resolve the issue with 100% certainty. In any event, I don't want to be viewed as critical here, just inquisitive. Overall I've been very impressed with CM. Probably the best computer wargame I've played - with some great attention to detail.
  4. Well I've been playing the game for several months, but don't puruse this board that often. Personnally I don't have enough information to pass judgement conclusively; however I am curious as to how they derived the conclusions they did. I don't really don't want to get into any theoretical arguement on hit probability - at least not unless I had a lot of primary reference material tucked under my arm at the time. The friend of mine who is commenting that the game is more akin to "Modern's" has played alot of table-top WW2 micro-armor (more than me). I guess he is familiar with the lower hit probablilities in most of the major rulesets for Micro-Armor, and derives conclusions from that experience. My personal opinion is that a couple of games may make it appear that ww2 tanks never miss simply because the engagement ranges are pretty short.
  5. A friend of mine has commented that he likes combat mission except for the first round hit probability for tanks. (Compared it to Modern's) Well I have to concede he has a valid point. How many rounds did it take to score a hit in ww2 tanks? I read it was on the order of 7 rounds on average. Another comment is that tanks aquire and redirect fire with computer like precision, not like human beings, especially for tanks appearing into view etc. Just curious what sources CM uses to model its hit probabilities. Comments?
  6. The Good news is that whatever they did in the last couple of beta versions it seems to have made CM almost completely stable on my Win ME system.
  7. Many Warbirds Pilots use RW, and generally selecting WAV (not direct X) and high-cpu priority is the best way to get as much functionality as possible, from what I've found. RW isn't completely flawless for all set-ups, and sometimes the sound xmit or receive just cuts out with some user for reasons unknown. Only way to cure that is to restart RW. On my rig RW is almost completely stable, and CM is very crash prone for reasons unknown. If Cm weren't such a good wargame I would have canned the CD long ago as a bug infested game... ( but thats another story)
  8. What public beta? I'm willing to try anything at this point. On my system 1.05 crashes all the time. Damned frustrating having such a good game crash so much.
  9. Well after a great deal of effort I think I may have found a setup where CM doesn't lockup. Running at the intermediate 1100 resolution with detonator driver 6.31 and the latest drivers seems to have solidified things a bit. (for reasons unknown) run several games without incident. (Knock on Wood)
  10. Played a couple of games before lockup this time. (thats an improvement) I got the windows "error" beep and the screen froze. Then ESC dumped me to desktop. Then when rebooting I got an unexplained Blue Screen of Death.
  11. I tried reloading the sound driver, and am running 6.31. I generally run CM in 1280x1024 at 16bit color. I've tried running at all the way from 1600x1200 to 1024x768, but that didn't make much difference. Lock ups resulted from all resolutions. I do not run any mods of CM - plain vanilla 1.05. Too early to tell if the latest attempt is working.
  12. I downloaded 6.47 from Nvidia's web site so I'm not sure how they could be "leaked". Nevertheless I reloaded 6.31 and the soundcard is the Asound Express using a ALS4000 chipset. According to their support site the driver for win ME is dated dec 1999, (als4000.exe is the filename.) The audio works fine in other d3d apps. The sound and video card do not share an interupt. Having to load specific version drivers and recheck them 3 times isn't where I should have to go to make CM work correctly on my system.
  13. That option is not available in the video display properties. In any event I had another Blue Screen of Death with another error: Filename Kmixer(01) 003E1A Error 0E:0028: FF06BEDA. After playing CM for about a month I have to come to the conclusion that its just buggy. After checking everything, sooner or later you have to come to the conclusion that its not your system, its the program. No other 3d game displays the crash capability it does - in fact they run flawlessly on my system. Too bad, because CM might be the best Computer Wargame I've seen. If it wasn't as good as it is I would have chucked the CD into the bargain bin because of all the crashes.
  14. Still experiencing problems with CM stability on my system, even with every driver checked and double checked. I'm runnin Win ME DX8 with tnt2ultra video running detonator drivers 647. I got this Blue Screen of Death Message: VMM(01) = 000DC99 Error: 0E :0028: C000EC99 CM also tends to dump to desk top from time to time as well. I love CM, but considering I play all kinds of 3d games without experiencing any problems with them I'm just a tad suspicious that its CM itself.
  15. Well the comment regarding 1.05 got me testing it again with a veteran unit and the hide worked this time. Maybe when I these bunkers open up early in earlier scenario's it was just a run of bad luck and jumpy machine gun crews. I certainly didn't run a large enough number of games to produce a statistical sample (it did happen several times in a row or I wouldn't have mentioned it.) At any rate guess I won't have to send the crews in for remedial training courses in concealment and fire discipline.
