  1. Okay doesnt sound like they are included! By the way the SAS were not just used in NA, I am sure they had many roles in the entire Med theatre and read about some SAS bloke getting a VC for clearing 4 MG nests I think in crete or somewhere similiar. They were also used in the western front I believe, cant really remember so not making a good case here. Do think however Commando units should be included, was suprised they were never in CMBO. Take I think it was Norway and Dieppe there were around 6000 involved in the latter I believe from both Blighty and Cananda. They should really be included in future products I believe!
  2. I havent got CMAK and not really had time to follow it closely, so apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered. My question is is there a heavily MG armed Land rover unit to represent the modified vehicles the SAS began using in the desert during WWII. I know they were not common and did not overly swing the war, but as the game is meant to represent (well it did in CMBO days!) the tactical level rather than strategic, I would expect them to be included and would no doubt spawn many scenarios and be mighty popular. Though I expect crew modelling would be a bit of a sore point! Also has there been any commando/sas/special unit added to the game? I never liked the idea of just tweaking squads to Elite level, as I dont think the units were anything too special just maybe there weapon load were different i.e. 8 Stens 1 bren and a load of demo charges (guessing a bit here!) an maybe no need for HQ
  3. Then again I once spotted an M1 that was hiding behind a hedge because I could see the heat waves from his turbine. If you pay attention you can see all kinds of things on the battlefield. Wow, call me thick but you are talking about a definite feature in CMAK yes? Heat haze sounds a really neat idea, how do they represent it in the game? Is it abstracted and say in this instance you get the tank ? silloutte and a heat haze? description, or do you actually get a blurring of the graphics in the area as well? Thanks Peter
  4. Reading the FAQ it seems there are no restrictions on CMAK ordering, and I got the original CMBO from Battlefront before the CDV started distributing. As it was a few years back and I cannot remember anyone know what extra tax for importing it will be? Im sure I had to pay something extra at the post office for CMBO. Will it also be a first come first serve? Or will priority to ship out N.American copies in a batch one month then say in January they will take orders for Europe? Also if a CMAK/CMBB bundle was produced would poor little old me in the UK be able to order this? Or would the CDV deal cause problems? Thanks
  5. So would you say the Arras counter attack was sufficient enough to cause the Germans to call a halt? Or was it just the whole speed of progress and overstretched line that was ultimately the reason and the counter attack little more than the final nail in the coffin(but there were numerous nails waiting out there)?
  6. Just a quicky, just reading the Royal Tank Regiment Journal and theres a small article on the above, where the 4th and 7th RTR led a counter attack into the German flank. Then goes onto say the result of this was Von Rundstedt calling a halt to the push to Dunkirk allowing the escape. I always thought that it was Hitler and Goering who orchastrated the halt? Im not a grog though so wonder what you people make of the whole thing. Cheers

  8. What was the philosophy and driving force behind British Tank design? Why did they never use sloped armour, surely by the time they were designing the Comet and Challenger sloped armour test results etc must have been fairly well kown? Was it just down to economics and they just used the same chasis and design over and over just plonking in bigger engines more flat armour and bigger guns? Or was it some arrogant failure to stick with "british tank design is the world leader by jove! damn sloped armour is just not cricket!" Thanks

  10. So in CMAK will there be a new time variable, where one can set it for midday (for all those mad englishman to go out in) or early morning when say the air is cooler or a precise time? Would this also have an effect on fatigue etc? In night combat would you be able to set the amount of light generated by the moon i.e. a full moon?
  11. What was the purpose of coaxil MGs in tanks? Were they just a left over in desgin from when tanks carried little more than machine guns such as the Pz I and II? Was their ever any training or indeed did tank designers put in coaxil MGs to help estimate range? Or was it just for keeping a tank buttoned up? Cheers
  12. I cant see for instance a Tigers coaxil being desgined for anti inf purposes, surely the turret would be too slow to make it of any use. Plus I didnt think a coaxil had such a range of movement as bow for this purpose either?

  14. I had a game the other day where a supposed Stu42 was advancing, opened up with two 6pdrs but it turned out to be a hetzer at about 350meters. They got through their Tungsten quickly without even hitting, why waste special ammo when you havent actually found your range? Also tungsten agasint a 60degree slope is pretty ineffective so could you argue they should have not used it once realising it was a hetzer? What was SOP for anti tank guns in wwii for both allies and axis when presented with a target? Unlike a tank they didnt have a HMG to work out range did they? Would they open up at longer distance to prevent spotting but have the disadvantage of accuracy and penetration? Or would it be recommended to open up at definite killing range but run the risk of being spotted and blasted before finding the mark? Were the any particular orders in the use of tungsten due to its lack of availability amongst allied crews? Cheers

Posted this on the CMBo area wondered if anyone had any examples from CMBB Ta Read Wild Bills article on El Alimein and noticed in the final defeat of jerry, some General Von Tropp or something went into battle in a MkIII in the final stages of defeat got KO and then awaited capture by his burning tank! Another section has i think the 11th/8th or maybe 9th! British Armoured Brigade being ordered by monty to some suicidal attack in which the commander some brigader personally decided to lead from the front. If a area collapsed and was completely overrun I know HQs awaited capture or shot themselvesd, but anymore examples of leading by exampl. Was it common for High ranking officers to go into combat? Bn Hqs are in CMBO so whats that Colonel level? But generals and brigaders

  17. Yes thats what I have had issues with before this "all knowning eye" that makes everyone aware of a unit. For instance you have three tanks advancing and a platoon also have their orders to advance, enemy snipers shoots at lead tank, within seconds all the units have precisely targeted the unit and opened up fire (obviously LOS is needed as mentioned). In real life if given the order to "follow tracer" then yes you would open up on the position, but the above is unrealistic for 1) If a platoon cmdr is given orders to advance across ground to a position, unless his advance is directly threatened he wont stop to fire at some area where a tank tracer is going 2) Theres no way a tank commander (unless say 10m away) would be able to communicate a target to infantry, even to other tanks I expect the lag in following tracer, finding the general position of the target then visually finding it for oneself would be far greater than is currently modelled. Likewise how on earth does a infantry unit communicate exact location of enemy to other inf units let alone armour or vehicles Regarding the initial posts, paradrops sounds unrealistic. I dont know of any knowing drop of troops in to hot territory as it would be too risky. Of course there were night drops etc into enemy territory and landings say in Market Garden into realtively safe drop zones, but none into a raging battlefield. If implemented the men would be so spread out all over the place, you would spend half the battle collecting weapons and re-grouping. I would like to see some form of campagin linking of battles, not in the present form where a battle is spread over a few days, but maybe a "career" mode. It would be a series of battles over say the course of a year or maybe a number. For instance start off on the East front in battles with the commies, then get reposted to the west for some R&R and have to fight to drive the D-day landings back! You could then see platoons rise to say crack then get decimated, filled with OAPs and drop back down to green etc. Im sure adding some tracking or report screen to give details of all the battles a unit has been in and some say generated figure of original members would be music to everyones ears. Give a field day to all the grogs too to create the careers of various Rgts or Division through the war. A nice idea would be to also link the career files together with other players so say I played a 2 SS PZ career file, I could find all the players who have units that fought them in one of the "career files" and then fight them one by one, they of course would continue with their own indpendent "career file" and move onto another opponent after etc. Of course there are parts of the war when entire Divisions were destroyed so you would obviously have to come to an end maybe if the career designer has made it so, but the idea would be to maybe in preceding battles build up a strong group of units and go out in a blaze of glory. This is obviously very utopian and I dont expect any of it to be put in place as it sounds rather complicated!
  18. Bit off topic, but would you know anywhere where I could get some war monthly mags from. I used to have some that were given to me by my cousin when but a nipper, but threw them away. Do you know any sites that may have classifieds ads etc that might occasionally put them for sale. Or has someone set up a site with scans of articles in? Cheers

  20. I suppose its similiar to wearing body armour and being hit by a rifle round, though the round wont penetrate and exit it will cause internal damage. Were there HESH rounds in WWII? I know they work on the principle of spreading over a large area and detonating HE to cause major internal armour flaking, so maybe penetration per se is not what one should be looking at, more the shockwave caused and its effect on the inside of the vehicle Good idea about the tank damage, though maybe its already covered sufficently in just the generic "abandonded" tag. I would like to see details on crew injured more though much like you can see whose down in a squad be good to see if you say lost your driver then became imobile, lose the commander and you can barely shoot!
  21. How is AP mine damage calculated? Do you have to be moving through it or if stationary is there still a chance you will get casualties? If I place a squad in a mine field in setup to dig in a foxhole, will they be safe? Cheers
  22. Ahh cheers for the insight. Well it was a 95mm firing which are very innaccurate at long distance, and does lob in a big arc, so I was pretty chuffed to hit it at 890meters, plus you only get a limited load of HC. Disapointed even more when the tiger reversed away and the Churchill was taken out by a PnzIV at 890m, which I suspect must have been a Jagdpanther to achieve such a feat.
  23. What the hell does the + mean? All other vehicles seem to have exact armour thickness and slope, while a Tiger has a 100+/0 degrees. Also how do you assess armour quality? When it says 95% does that mean if 100mm its really only equal to 95mm or does it mean there is a 5% chance that theres a weak spot in the armour? Also how does HC work for Brit 95mm? Is it always a dead cert 125mm penetration? Hit a tiger at 890m with a 95mm HC round and all i got was turret hit no major damage! Surely I should have got a penetration!
  24. Yea its bad enough on the central line packed like sardines with someones FT in your face, let alone a laptop with CMBO being played! Maybe the stress of commuting could be reduced with a special CMBO carriage where you challenge others to a game . Hhhmmm actually I can see it now, fights, turning up late for work, staying past your stop till the end of the line just to see your flag rush succeed...
