1. Hi, If you have access to an academic library check out the October issue of War and Society. Most of the issue is concerned with asects of the military in traditional China. The last article could be useful to scenario designers or anyone interested in some background reading on a relatively unknown campaign of the war in Germany. 'This is the way wars end, with a bang and not a whimper': Middle Franconia in April 1945 / Fritz, Stephen G. Lot of interesting information on this late phase of the war, mentions air attacks on American ground forces by German jets. Tactics used by the 12th armor div. to counter suicide panzerfust attacks. (Suppression machine gun fire combined with infantry on the tank decks lobbing grenades into foxholes). Also stresses the ferocity of the fighting, the difficulty of the terrain and the fanaticism of the German defenders, (executing civilians including women, who were 'defeatist') War and society Vol. 18, no. 2 (Oct. 2000)pp 121-153 has lots of German and US source references. regards Harryr
 2. I had the same problem when i first started playing CM. I have one of the earlier imacs. I found if i changed the view to 5, the top down view, and click and hold down on the mouse button i can get a stable floor level selection window. screen 1 and 2 will also work but not as well.
 3. Cav is right in 1939-40 Germany defeated the armies of Poland, France, Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Only the first two were major military powers, the Poles had modern French aircraft but most of them were destroyed on the ground. Polish pilots were very well trained, and lacked for nothing in motivation in combat during the Battle of Britain. Poland was also fighting on two fronts. Personally I reserve my admiration mostly for the Poles, Czechs, French etc that came to England in 1940 when all must have seemed lost, and defeat barbarism and slavery or death the likely prospect. They and the men and women of Britain, stood alone against an unbeaten war machine from 1940 until 1942. I remember my mother telling me that it wasn't until the defeat of the Germans at Stalingrad in 1943, that people began to feel confident that the allies would win. They endured the bombing raids, the rationing, the defeats. What little material assistance provided by the USA had to paid for in full, upfront. They still had food rationing in the UK up until 1947.
 4. Thanks IPA for the posting. Don't want to get into a flame war but Monty was the first allied commander to defeat the germans in a major land engagement in WWII At the battle of El Alemain. His opponent was a fella called Rommel His victory raised morale of the civilians and military of the Allies. He proved that the germans could be defeated in battle. If he was cautious, it was as a junior officer on the western front in WWI that he experienced at first hand the waste of soldiers lives by callous commanders. High casulties for limited returns were unacceptable politically in the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc throughout WWII. For America with a population over 200 million and low casualties from WWI the situation was different. Post Vietnam, American military thinking has also changed.
 5. Hi all from a newbie, I live in Sydney and i don't recall the USMC being involved in the confiscation of firearms. Gun owners were required to take them to police stations. There would be a **** storm of gargutuan proportions if foreign troops were used in any way in oz for something like that.
quote:
Originally posted by sneaky: 82nd, It depends on why they are deployed. Remember, US Marines took part in the legal confiscation of firearms in Australia. I think it would be slightly disconcerting to see a German Soldier approaching my house for that kind of reason. Please notice I did not say it was good or bad. Just that is is happening and those who think "globalization" is a figment of the JBS imagination have missed it. The world is changing and it is important for MJ to realize what kind of army and operations he may be involved with. Sneaky.
