The crew is veteran, and you may have a point with the <150m theory. A couple of turns later it took out a different Hetzer @ 158 meters, just a bit farther away than the one it only fired HE at.

  2. That should read possible CM1.1b22 bug... I'm playing an e-mail with Cubes where my Churchill (95mm) got into a shooting dual with a Hetzer. To make a long story short, I hit that thing three shots in a row with HE without expending a single shaped charged round. I presume the first round took the commanders' upper torso off, because the Hetzer just sat there allowing me to put two more HE rounds into it. The Churchill does have shaped charge ammo available but isn't using it.

  3. I really don't want to get into the middle of an argument but I personally would love to have the option of doing U.S. vs USSR 45 battles. I had fun with it in Steel Panthers, and I'd have fun with it in CM. The only problem I see with it is that you'd start seeing Summer 45 hypothetical scenarios with names like "The Pusan Perimeter" etc. I'll be buying it with, or without the what if Patton got his way stuff. My only other concern is that if it delays CM III, The Desert War, by more than a month, I don't want it.

  4. Let's see here. There's been many games I've enjoyed but here's the ones I've played most: In chronological order:

    "Bard's Tale" (Apple)

    "Might and Magic" (Apple)

"Battle of Britain" or something to that effect by Lucas Arts.

"Doom" (PC) (the reason I dropped the Amiga format)

    "Empire Deluxe" (PC)

    "Steel Panthers" series (PC)

    "Quake II"

    "Baldur's Gate"

    "CMBO"

I'd like to have 8% compound interest on all the junk I've bought I can't even remember the name of.

  5. Update: I finally finish building the DML Easy Eight and started the weathering process. Well there's been an accident. I've been very distracted the last few days due to my father having quadruple heart bypass surgery Friday. Don't worry, he's doing fine to the praise of the God of heaven.

I think this disturbing news contributed to the blunder which destroyed the turret on my Easy Eight, and my have also irreparably damaged the hull. I accidently prepped the model for weathering with an acrylic paint thinner instead of an enamel thinner. It's a long story but the end result was that the turret was destroyed, and the hull may or may not be usable. We'll see what happens when I re-varnish it, and attempt to weather it. Damned shame too, I think I did a nice job sandbagging the hull. I've got an Italeri Sherman on order and I'll either cannibalize the turret, or build the entire M4A1 (76) model depending on if I can save the Easy Eight hull. It's going to be a bit longer before those of you interested can see my work.

    Cheers

  6. Maybe I can get this lock up: We don't want a commander and chief that says he just wants every vote to count while doing everything in his power to see to it that military member's votes don't count. If this exposure of Gore's real character doesn't get you past all the "how I'm going to buy your vote" nonsense, nothing will. mad.gif

  7. I'm chomping at the bit for CM2 myself; mostly, because that means were getting closer to the desert war (1940 or 1941 - 1943 depending on how you slice it), but I would be greatly disappointed if BTS didn't keep their priorities and promises straight. BTS promised TCP/IP was the next priority and they're keeping there promise. That's good enough for me.

The battle of Dien Bien Phu (French vs. Vietnamese) in 1954 (I think) shows both the peril of the high ground if used incorrectly and the advantage of the high ground in competent hands...

Is this the battle that made famous the fraise "Go tell the Spartans"?

The taking of the high ground is more important at the operational level than the tactical level. Control of the right piece of ground can eliminate the enemies ability to attack with surprise, or even have a coordinated attack at all if enough artillery can be brought to bare on observed troop movements, amongst other advantages.

  9. Since you did this because 1: it was the last turn therefor the consequences of this otherwise foolish action would be mute, and because your sole motivation was to grab points disregarding the tactical situation yes I'd say that was very gamey. Granted Quick battles are gamey by nature as opposed to some scenarios which attempt to simulate a historical event, but that was cruel.

  10. Funny thing you mentioned half-life, and Diablo II. I paid full price for both. I don't even have Half-Life on my new hard drive, not that it's not an outstanding game but I have different gaming priorities now days. Diablo II really didn't break any new ground. Could of saved my money on that one. Combat Mission surpasses both games in both longevity of game play and revolutionary design within it's genere. Combat Mission is definitely worth every penny.
