1. I'm sure this topic has been done to death but I can't stop myself... - I love seeing the enemy pound a position I've either vacated, or never was at with his arty. Every miss is poetry. -I love when the off-board arty fires smoke missions, 'cause I know "here it comes", and every smoke round is one less that goes "BOOM" on my head. Rhapsody. -I love a good flamer ambush, nothing like watching a squad run off with hot feet. LOL. -I always try to cover my obstacles with direct fires, but I love it when you can hear but not see, (night/fog), a good, "oh my leg!!" when the opfor hits your minefield. You hear the mine go off. You know they are there, you don't know how many but they are there. Sweet anticipation. -You know they are gonna slide right by that zook/shreck and don't see it. Come to papa baby. WHAM. Oh the humanity. -Tons more I can't think of right now. Man what a game!! ------------------ Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoids?
2. Thanks for the reply. I believe I had it whipped in 1.05 with the above mentioned driver/directx 8 combo. Yes I am running quite a few mods. I quess I can play around with that. I can live with it while playing the AI but when I have to reboot tcp/ip games is when it becomes a real liability. Who wants to play person that they have to restart/reboot with 2-3 times a game? Thanks again for the help Schrullenhaft. [This message has been edited by Dalwhinnie (edited 01-23-2001).]
3. It's baaack. Not as bad as before, about every 10-15 turns and comes on slower. Near as I can tell it restarted with the 1.1 tcp/ip patch. Not sure what to try now. Any ideas? ------------------ Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoids?
4. First the disclaimer's. Slightly OT. I'm NOT a WWII buff, aficionado, expert, or anything else. LOVE this game. Recently, ABC ran a piece on WWII photographer's/reporters. There was a photo segment, about the Marines, (I think it was on Siapan, see above disclaimer's if I'm wrong on the locale), wherein a Japanese woman threw her child and herself off a cliff rather than surrender to a Marine photographer who allegedly had his camera mounted on a rifle stock. Supposedly the Japanese had been filled with propaganda that to be a US Marine you had to do something like murder your parents or something to get in which in theory precipitated the woman's actions. This is the kind of stuff that happens in war. It has been said that no one prays for peace more than a soldier. Having been one, and now in a similar profession, that rings true for me. What I'm saying is that as to the, "gore" issue, given this game IS so realistic in other ways, I'm glad BTS has toned it down a bit. They got It about right IMO. Not trying to be overly dramatic or emotional. Yes I know it is a GAME. Just relating how it effects me. Did I say I LOVE the game? I do. Oh and just to look doubly stupid I've gone and posted this mini diatribe to the wrong thread. It should be under the, "Blood", thread. I go now. 5. Well don't I feel silly. A guy did that to me last week and I just sat there dumbfounded wondering why he was so stupid as to lead the assault with his mortar team. Ain't like I'm any great tactician, (far from it), but it didn't even occur to me what he was up to until reading this post. Hmm...human nature. I'm crushed. ------------------ Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoids?
6. I had this BAD, about 5-8 turns every stinkin' single game and I had to restart. I uninstalled 3dfx tools, installed directx 8, and downloaded installed drivers v3-w9x which is ver, 1.07.00. It is so far so good, I'm two thirty turn games, one single player, one TCP/IP, into it now and the white-out is a no-show. Woohoo. Oh, OT but DON'T install WinME over your previous OS without uninstalling, (not just disabling) your virus protect. Most people probably knew better but alas, I didn't. Big mistake. If your OS goes fine for awhile then goes brain dead this might be your problem. You're are going to have to uninstall the virus software, maybe firewall if you are running one, purge the registry, and re-install the OS. ------------------ Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoids?
7. Take a look at tournamenthouse.com for your "PBEM wanted" needs. I'll send a setup. ------------------ Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoids?
8. I'll send you a set-up. ---------------- Are meteoriods any kin to hemorrhoid? [This message has been edited by Dalwhinnie (edited 11-12-2000).]
9. Thanks. <-- why the hell would he have to he edit that?? Don't ask, computer whiz I ain't. ----------------- Are meteoriods any kin to hemmoroids? [This message has been edited by Dalwhinnie (edited 10-31-2000).]
10. I'll put this here in the hopes of showing as little ignorance as possible. I would do a search but I'd get about a million replies, none of which would answer the question. In relation to a PBEM match, what is a "QB"? Thanks.
11. What the heck, I'll pitch in here. 41YOA, married, 2YO daughter. Did about 8 yrs. in the Army, flew 58's, Fulda Germany, (ah the good ol' days, big red Ivan menace watching them watch us watch them) then home to Ft. Lewis. Didn't care for the stateside Army much. Got out, went into law enforcement. Got about every computer game in the book. If I could get my money back for them I'd be driving a Mercedes rather than a Ford. Could of saved all my money and harddrive space and dropped $50 bucks on CM and left the others on the shelf. Steve & Charles, where were you when I needed you? Well better late than never!!
12.
quote:
Originally posted by M Hofbauer: Dalwhinnie, not sure if I believe or understand what you say. Maybe you should send her over here and we will see if I can reproduce the same result using Tequila

Yup, I asked for that. I'll stick to the scotch, tequila just makes her mean.
13.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Jau Hofbauer, that made no sense, but well said. BTW, love your sigs. Now Dalwhinnie, if you go back to read the thread ('Combat Mission Hit'), you'll find that you would command more respect around here if you had chosen either Talisker or Laphroaig as a handle. Well, I guess we can let you get away with this one.

Yeah, I'm actually a Lagavulin man but someone had that one. Dalwhinnie is kind of a girly man scotch but it's the only one my wife drinks and you know what happens after she's been drinkin'. Don't answer that please.
14. He must like single malt scotch, (that's what Dalwhinnie is {I know there is a thread on that too}), 'cause he kindly assimilated my butt right off, after I begged a little. Time to go check the mailbox for my CM copy...
15. I saw some info on this game some time, (mid '99?, ago and then forgot to check back on it. I then saw a review in a game magazine, (PC Gamer-91%). I finally checked the site and downloaded the demo on Friday night, Sep 1st. WOW. Five minutes after starting the CE scenario I jumped out and was keying in my CC number to battle.com as fast as my fingers could fly. It's now Tuesday and I know it won't be here today, (hell, I'll be lucky if they mail it out today), but I'll keep calling in sick from work, (cough, cough), to check my mailbox every 5 minutes 'till it's here. Then I have to call in sick to play it...AWOL? How will I eat? Who cares. Throw away the crack pipe honey, I got a new drug. You may assimilate me now, sir. It would be a priviledge. P.S. Don't worry I know the above does'nt add much to the forum but I am 99% lurker, 1% poster.
