The answer to this would be to attack the naval unit with an Air unit. I've found that attacking ships tend to move away once they are engaged by an air fleet, or even attacked from the shore.Originally posted by Mark Dutton:Naval units also sit on the coast for weeks at a time muching on a land unit, slowly wearing it down. This is highly unrealistic given the way that all admiralities feared air attack on capital units. The only surface bombardments that I'm aware of in WWII were during amphibious assaults, once the troops moved inland, the battleships departed.

Damn, I never thought o look at end turn MPP!
SO far my best (with Axis) was conquering France and then immediately turning on Russia (After a quick stop at Hungary.) With Heavy Tank research I was able to cleave a nice path in before the game ended. Would have made it further if the damn Italians were not hung up in Greece.

Sorry for not sending E-Mail Marc. I decided to wait for the full game to play PBeM, and just play around with the AI in the DEMO.
-
Ancient, go to CONTROL PANEL and look in the SYSTEM. There should be a spot for SOUND. That's what I did, perhaps there is a better way...

Cool!Originally posted by SS_Obergruppenführer:Mr.Clark: this is a historical event. I think Yugoslavia joined the Axis for only a day or something like that before a pro-Allied coup forced the king to abdicate. Nice of Hubert to include this one!
-
Thanks Hubert!
I'm having a blast with the DEMO so far.
-
Thanks Hubert, I'm sending you mail now.
Sorry, I should have put this in the bug report thread...
-
On an interesting political note, During my Axis campaign, there was a pro-Allied coup in ... uh ... some country or other, maybe Yugoslavia. Anyhoo, I did not rush to remedy it, and it ended up being devastating to my campaign.
(Which was actually kinda fun.)
Is that a random event, or a historical one?
Is it one of the options? I guess I should pay more attention...
Anyway, just wanted to say it was pretty cool.

This has already been brought up in a few other threads, but just to give it a place:
In regards to the Main Menu...
After you click on a choice, the game does not react until the current music is finished playing. In the NEW GAME selection, this can take a fairly loooong time. It appears that the game is locked or frozen. Not only is it a little annoying, but it may cause potential customers to believe that the DEMO is not working on their PC, when in fact it is.

Here are a few questions that come to mind:
1) What determines which units are attached to an HQ? If a unit attached to an HQ is annihiliated, does another replace it?
2) Can someone (perhaps with a screenshot) explain the exact map area that subs need to be parked in to disrupt shipping?
3) In the FAQ it list 2 types of attacks for units. One is simply attacking, one is moving and attacking. Are there combat modifiers applied if a unit moves and then attacks, rather than simply attacking?

I'm having the same problem with Strategic Bombing. It needs a little work, otherwise it seems pointless.
Everything else seems GREAT!
-
Did you get a game yet?
-
Thanks Hubert, for making it a small file rather than the entire d/load again!
Mine seems to be running completely Great on an AMD K6-2 @380 mhz, Voodoo 3, 128 mb ram, but I grabbed the fix anyway.
I was worried I would have problems, but none so far...
Fun and addicting game!

Very thrilling! Great job!
Can't wait till my DEMO d/load is done...
-
Straha, I understand not wanting to risk your system...
BUT, if you are more worried about the d/load time, it only takes two hours MAX on a 56k. Not too bad, considering you get to taste the game and see that it works on your system before ordering the full game.
-
Won't setting to the highest refresh rate possibly burn the monitor?
D/loading now! Can't wait!!!!!!
-
Very True Straha! I had not thought of the overall implications of capturing fortifications.
-
I also wondered about the West Wall, but I think it is screwed over by the river hexes.
Is there a way to capture the French fortifications, w/o destroying them?
-
Ditto!Originally posted by BloodyBucket:I am willing to wait as long as it takes, if the designer is looking at some of the ideas that get presented here and trying to implement them.
Too many games get released as Beta, because of a publish on time or be damned mindset. I think a little patience here will be rewarded.
(and we all know that you need a Hockey Puck, a Mullet, and a Beer to bait Canadians!)

15 minutes for ONE turn right?Originally posted by SuperTed:Lah,
Well, it depends which side you have and period of the war it is. I have played the entire campaign and it has never taken more than about 15 minutes.
NOT 15 minutes to play out the campaign?

LOL! Great idea! Write it into law!Originally posted by BloodyBucket:If this feature is included, I vote that sitting in front of your computer watching a SC game unfold by itself while getting a full helping of your favorite adult beverage be known as "Strahaing".
-
Thanks Hubert! That does help actually!
I'm glad to hear that some extra effort must be spent to take full advantage of the new tech/research.
-
Oh, no wonder I never use it!Originally posted by Canuck_para:AFAIK: as far as I know (which isn't that far for some)
Thanks!

Here is another question, probably stupid:
Once we achieve a new level of research/tech... do our units in the field automatically become that new level, or do we have to either reinforce or buy new units to have that new tech level?
Poof! If you yell "Timeout!" very loudly, the enemy will pause hostilities long enough for all your units to upgrade simultaneously. </font>
Question Regarding Strategic Bombing

I've never had the points to really dig into testing bombing, but I have found it useful in denying enemy navies the opportunity to repair.
