  1. Okay,

If you want to see a POSSIBLE in game example of HT "endurance", d/load this file:

    http://home.att.net/~ronin115/HT_Demo.cmc

It's scenario #4 of the Arnhem Operation.

A German HT is stuck on the ALlied side of the bridge among alot of wreckage.

All my troops in the surrounding buildings are out of Heavy Bombs. There ARE 2 PIAT's down the road on the right targetting the HT.

First time I played the turn, the HT took an ungodly amount of "grenades" and then broke through and killed the two PIATS!!!

Second time I played it, the HT remained stuck, but survived 48 "grenades"!

Your results will vary, because you will have to hit GO and process a new turn after you fire it up.

I'm not saying this is "wrong" as I don't know how the realism factor would actually play out in this situation, but it MAY serve as a good example of super HT's v. "grenades"/assaults.

Close combat vs. vehicles is something of an abstraction in CM. So the closer you are to the vehicle the better. Distance makes a big difference. When you're more than 20m away it's a "longshot" to nail the vehicle, but the grenade throwing shows that your guys are at least *trying*. The grenades also represent other ways of attacking the vehicle (jamming things into the running gear, etc.) but we just show it as grenades. For CM2 we're likely going to add some ways to make attacking infantry more capable of closing the distance automatically so it'll be a little easier (though not too much).

Does that mean "Not a bug!" ?

He He... just watched that movie myself.

The backpack of infinite explosives .

If I remember correctly, they basically blow up an entire castle, and then an entire strip of road, with that one backpack of explosives.

    Funny stuff.

  4. Go to www.bn.com and type in "Band of Brothers"

It's the first book that comes up... by Stephen E. Ambrose. "Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle Nest"

You really can't go wrong with it! One of the best books I've ever read.

(Check out the "customer reviews" while you are there... all 5 stars!)

  5. I know he's annoying, but that's actually EXACTLY how Sobel is described... Truthfully, the more annoying that Schwimmer is, the better. If I remember correctly, Sobel even had the same screechy voice.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I hope that the budget was MORE than the 10 to 20 million that I remember. I suppose that 20 million would stretch farther in Spielberg and Hanks hands though...

Also, instead of paying for stuff per episode, they are sort of paying for everything at once, like a movie, which helps.

  6. If I remember correctly, the budget was something like 10 or 20 million for the entire series...

I totally agree that Schwimmer is a perfect pick for Sobel! (as long as he can get into the part...)

Personally, I'm looking forward to this mini-series far more than I'm looking forward to Enemy at the Gate, or Pearl Harbor.

    The book was just fantastic.

  7. I just looked at my game in a snow scenario and realized I have absolutely NO winter uniforms!

I need suggestions, as they mostly look the same to me in screenshots. I only plan on using Lo-Res, as DD's Uniforms are Lo-Res and the best I've seen... meaning I don't really need to waste all that Hi-Res RAM for something that looks good.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  8. If you do a search you'll find lots of good info.

That said, You should place a sharpshooter in a good position, and then leave him alone! Sharpshooters do MUCH better w/o the players interference!

They'll spot enemies, kill Tank Commanders and button up vehicles, and generally be a nuisance to the enemy... as they should.

  9. I'm not really looking for new scenery mods... but in my opinion the community is REALLY lacking in Building MODs!

I recently grew sick of PT's Hi-Res, super destructo building set. (Looks fantastic, but just too dark and destroyed)

I am currently using Magua's first set of buildings... which in my opinion are the most realistic. Unfortunately, they were never finished. The winter versions lack doors and all of them lack roof shading.

We have dozens of vehicle mods, several terrain mods, but only 1.5 building mods...

Anyhoo, I hope those new buildings in the pics are released soon! Great roof shading and much cleaner looking than the first set!

Looks to have a lot of variety too!

Are they Hi-Res or Lo? Doesn't really matter, I'll Lo-Res 'em myself if they are Hi.

(After switching from PT's Hi-Res to Magua's Lo-Res, I notice my game running better.)

  10. I absolutely hate the idea of another patch...

BUT, I hate the idea of this bug being left in even more. Obviously its a single problem with "grenades/assaults" vs. HT's. This really has the potential to hurt an infantry player like myself... as well as detracting from the realism level.

Hopefully we get one more quick patch to take care of this last clinging little bug. (As soon as Charles stops running around in circles, tugging at his hair, and screaming obscenities at us through the monitor...) wink.gif
