1. Damn, THE SECRET IS OUT!!!

Kingfish, whom I'm to do a 5000pt Armour probe PBEM battle with, discovered my winemaking secret. Better post it here before rumour spreads too quickly with addedd tales ...
quote:

I know now how you make your wine. You pour grape juice in jar, then place in

a dark cellar. Meanwhile you fire up a 5000pt QB on your P2-233, set it up,

plot the moves, then hit "Go". By the time the first turn finishes you have

wine. Your secret is safe with me.

    Go figure!

  2. Hello Madmatt,

Thanks for the timeous warning! Appreciated.

Does the server crash automatically when a certain number of posts have been reached?

I have seen one post (I think the one about the accuracy of some German gun, Joachim the initiater) that seems to float in and out of this forum, being very close to p20 by now!

Or does it become unstable to such an extent that you don't know when it will crash when it reaches the region of 300 posts?

Ayway, I'll start the "....continued" thread of the Invitational later today.

If memory serves correctly, this server does not like South Africans posting to it, as the "Wine Features Thread" had someting to do with the last major Battlefront Forum crash! ;)

    Kind regards,

    Charl Theron

PS: Madmatt, for one split second I scanned your above post too quickly and thought that I have reached my total of postings on this whole forum and cannot post anymore! Just about to start an looong, pleading e-mail that I have seen gentleman here reaching 1200+ posts and this is just not on ... :D

  3. Are you thinking of closing down your site because of criticism or because of financial problems, Manx?

The former does not even consider a discussion. In fact, if they bother you too much, publish their bloody names here on the forum. If they are getting to you and you are thinking of closing the site, therefor depriving a LOT of people here of your excellent, FREE service, then it becomes my business as well. Get their home addresses I say!

I'll send them vinegar disguised as wine and then they have *reason* to complain!

If it's financial I, and a lot of people here on the Forum I can safely assume, will lobby BTS here on the Forum to employ you. No disrespect to Madmatt at all, but GIVE THIS MAN A JOB BTS! He's got major talent. TALENT!

If that doesn't work, then I will lobby that a small amount be voluntary donated to you(say $2.00 p/person a year) for every person that visits your site...

If THAT does not work, I am down to my last (desperate!) option:

quote:
I'll send you 12 bottles of good South African wine every 6 months if you promise to keep the site open. Every time you THINK of closing down your site, then just get drunk on the wine. This substance is known to put LIFE (<-- to the critics, *get* this) in perspective. ;)You can quote me on this.

  4. Now Gentleman Sledge + Spkr,

Good to see you two making (kissing?) up ; Good luck with your battle. A kind request: Can we get some AAR's from you two, hehe? :D

Remember, the only thing SERIOUS about wine is that there is nothing in your glass! Hence, both make sure that your Combat Mission CD's arein your harddrives before you tangle with one another! smile.gif

    Kind regards,

    Charl Theron

  5. Hello Berli + Claymore

Thanks for the PBEM movie files send of your match-up with Claymore, Berli.

After watching the above battle, I cannot help but feel the excruciatingly "bad luck" of Berli being poleaxed by a (simultaneous) 2 x 155mm barrage on his troops/HT's (in fact, his whole force!) on the reverse slope of a hill.

This "terror from hell" knocked the stuffing out of his HT's that were racing up the hill, Claymore cleverly placing 4 x TRP on that reverse slop. The very 1st arty shells landed bulls-eye on 2 HT's. Berli's piggybacking Pioneers (veterans) went from "OK" --> "Routed" status in 45 seconds flat! Any effort to direct these hapless troops off the map would have been negated by their shocked/routed state; plus the fact that Claymore skirted the hill with a pair of fast Hellcats and they were blasting Berli's unlucky troops from the back. Escape route shut!

Not that this was all due to just plain "good luck" from Claymore's side -- though Gary Player, the SA golfer's motto: "The harder I practice the luckier I get" springs to mind here.

Claymore *did* execute a risky, bold plan that came off handsomely. The Gods of War should've dealt any luck (that was due) to Claymore, I suppose.

Major Caveat: Never blindly charge all your forces (in narrow lanes) onto a reverse slope to seize a VL on top of a hill!

Apologies to Berli, as this is coarse salt in his wounds, again. ;)

Keep up the battles and thanks Berli for losing graciously!

    Regards,

    Charl Theron

  6. John et al,

    Thanks for the quick replies.

The next question is? Which of the mentioned magazines above is the better one to subscribe to? I assume both are quality ones anyway?

I hate those 1-page-review-PC Magazines that's intended for the age group 16 minus.

One magazine (on the net) that I dofind to be relatively comprehensive is Games Domain as far as these reviews/previes go.

    Again, thanks for the help,

    Regards,

    Charl Theron

  7. BTS mentioned some time ago (beginning June?) that they will publish some pics/info article on CM2 after some grace period allowed for a Game Magazine's first option to do so.

Being South African, their is no ways that I can get my hands on this particular American computer Mag, so the question is: Have this Game Magazine's grace period for a "scoop" expired? If so, have this particular article been put on the web yet for us to read?

    Kind regards,

    Charl Theron

  8. Anyone here, please help:

I'm looking for some (say 5-10) excellent, INTERESTING medium size maps (for PBEM play)that people have here played and enjoyed that are well BALANCED with regard to any VL's.

Any idea where I can get a quick few without searching myself to death on the net?

Any good websites that give a short preview (even rating) of the maps to be found?

    Kind regards,

    Charl Theron

  9. StuGIII,

Thanks for the report. One piece of advice that I learned...sort of, hehe:

Things always look good/nice/OK in Combat Mission before and during the initial stages of contact with the enemy, lulling me into believing that I and my tank gunners are quite charmed in life and skill.

Alas, I wish I could slip my gunners/footies some wine during my PBEM battles, as they sober up real fast when I lose 4 AFV's, all taken out by different enemy tanks, all with first shot kills while these enemy tanks were on the move and my hapless gunners and their AFV's were STATIONERY!

Their is some MEAN PIECE OF RANDOM BAD LUCK build into this game!!!

    Have fun..sort of!

    Regards,

    Charl Theron

  10. Just stumbled on this post. For those that are serious in getting the wine ( :D), study CM's point scoring method below to extract the max. points from your enemy.

quote:

Cp = total points of player casualties (units captured count double their casualty value)

Ce = total points of enemy casualties (units captured count double their casualty value)

F = total value of flags

Fp = point value of flags controlled by player

Fe = point value of flags controlled by enemy

    A = player score

    E = enemy score

Units are worth BPV except spotters which are 30

    ( Ce + Fp )

    --------------- = A

    ( Cp + Ce + F )

    or Player score =

    (Enemy casualties + Player flags)

    --------------------------------------------

(Player casualties + Enemy casualties + Total flags)

    Exit scenarios:

    - exited like it should: player gets (cost * 2.7) points

    - not exited like it should: opponent gets (cost * 2.7) points

    - killed: opponent gets (cost * (2.7 + 1.0)) points

    - captured: opponent gets (cost * (2.7 + 2.0)) points

For flamethrower teams and trucks insert 2.3 instead of 2.7.

  14. Treeburst155's donation is in fact from Mrs. Treeburts. Prove can be found here guys! [as posted on 06-26-2001 06:40 PM] smile.gif

Nevertheless, we thank you guys (and Mrs. Treeburst!) for what seems to be an excellent litlle proggy and the continued support thereof. Have not tried it yet as there is no time of late to play any CM (the taxman is auditing my company @ the moment - talk about penpushers skulking around every nook an cranny!!)

  15. This is the reason why I will buy this game in the future, and say "NO" to my friends when some ask if they can make a copy of my CMBO CD.

My response always: "Go BUY this game! No such pirated ideas will be entertained, ever!"

Thanks Steve for some of the best insights as to the inner workings of CM as well as time spend on the Forum to explain.

    Kind regards,

    Charl Theron
