1. I haven't seen any threads addressing this yet, so I'm going to post it. Recently, I've been experiencing some horrendous load times. Understandably so on the larger battles, but my biggest concern is with the first screen. After I click 'Play Game', to go to the list of scenarios, it gives me the msg 'scanning disk for scenarios' FOREVER! The only way to advance past this screen is by clicking the mouse. However, after doing that, every mouse click is one behind where it should be. i.e. I click on the 'page down' tab in scenarios list, it does nothing. I then click the fourth scenario down on the first page. The screen advances to the next page of scenarios, and the next mouse click puts the highlight on the fourth game down, second screen. Has anyone else had problems with this? As I said earlier, it really became an issue only recently, seems to have slowed down considerably. I haven't done anything to my machine to make this change, either. Please help! ------------------ "NO! There is no try..DO..or do not!" ~Yoda, Empire Strikes Back 1980
 2. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've grown quite fond of using MG Jeeps. These little boogers are quick, quiet, and pack a nice punch. I'm playing a pbem game now, got a couple of these when setting up, and had a great time with them. I used them in a pair, the first one was on a 'fast' moving setting out doing recon, and the second, I had moving between 'fast' and 'move'. Jeep #1 didn't last too long, came too close to an enemy firebase located in a heavy building. However, Jeep #2 took out 2 half tracks and double digit enemy infantry casualties before being demolished by friendly artillery fire. BTW, if anyone wants to start an email game w/me..please feel free! ------------------ "NO! There is no try..DO..or do not!" ~Yoda, Empire Strikes Back 1980
 3. Can't say for sure, Ben, but.. I figure that, for a jeep, and most likely for a halftrack, as well, any round from a Tiger, Panzer, or pretty much any German tank for that matter, would mean certain doom. Think about it. You're driving a half track along, say, at 20 MPH. Scenario one: An AP round fired from a Tiger rips through your vehicle, killing a crewman and injuring two others. Time to bail out! Scenario two: Again, driving along nice and smooth, and a Tiger lets fly with an HE round, and connects with your vehicle, say, in the rear quadrant. This not only paralyzes your vehicle, but quite literally blows it apart. Either way, you see, the tank's job is done! ((Poster's note.. all of this is, of course, IMHO! )) ------------------ "NO! 4. Well..I am using Win98, but your ideas didn't help me. However, I did find out a way to accomplish what I was shooting for. All I have to do now is press F5, and that is the 'refresh' command. I guess it's the one that checks for new mail, and sends everything in the outbox. Thanks for trying! ------------------ "NO! There is no try..DO..or do not!" ~Yoda, Empire Strikes Back 1980
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Lane: Do you have to stay with pow ? If you move your troops away what happens? will they stay in POW status?

I don't know about having to stay with them, I do know, though, that whenever I capture troops, I send them to the back of my lines. I figure that if they're behind my troops, even if they're not being guarded, they have a much slimmer chance of escaping. 6. Okay, this message might not really belong on this board, but I'm hoping that some of you guys can help me out here. I recently reformatted my HD, and, admittedly, was in over my head. It took me a long time to get things back up and running. Now, I've begun to try PBEM'ing. However, my email program (Microsoft's Outlook Express) has been acting funny since the formatting. Now, even when I'm connected to the 'net, if I want to check my mail, I have to click 'Send and Receive'. Instead of just contacting my server with the connection already established, the program hangs up, and redials. I know it's not a really big deal, just quite frustrating! Again, my apologies for posting this here, but many of you seem to be PC gurus! ------------------ "NO! There is no try..DO..or do not!" ~Yoda, Empire Strikes Back 1980
 7. I've experienced some problems with sparkling grass, but it's only a spot here or there, not the entire screen. Don't really have any ideas on how to fix it, just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one with sparklies.. ------------------ "NO! 8. Saved games, at least for me, are in the actual games (scenarios) screen. For example, open the game, go to 'Play game', the screen with all the different scenarios on it, and towards the top, under 'quick battle', should be your saved game(s).. hope this helps! ------------------ "NO! 9. A full game playback feature..woah, could there be such a thing?? Then we could all post our victories on the board for bragging rights..could become the next fad! I'm all for full length playbacks..even if it's on hold until CM2! ------------------ "NO! There is no try..DO..or do not!" ~Yoda, Empire Strikes Back 1980
 10. Wow, this frightens me..I've just started trying to play EM games, am in the process of beginning one (almost as I'm typing) ... have had great results with AI games..am hoping to take it to the next level with PBEM games..hoping not to experience any probs! ------------------ "NO! 11. I believe that's right..I downloaded the .05 patch, then opened 2 windows with the different versions in each one. Shift+drug the new version to the old version's window, was prompted if I wanted to replace..yep, that's all!
 12. Movie?? Didn't even know such a thing existed.. hmmph..guess I need to get out of my foxhole more often..
 13. I, too, am having problems getting 1.05 over my 1.02 version. All I have to do is 'shift + drag'..but shift and drag what?? I've never done these things before, and want to enjoy the game to the fullest..please help the newbies!!
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Philistine: Charles has indicated that this is probably video card related. What is your main video card (and what type of voodoo do you have? (i.e. 1, 2 or 3?).

I don't really know, to be honest. I will say that since reformatting my HD, CM runs fine..all menu's and drop downs work great now. I can say with SOME degree of certainty that my voodoo is of the first edition. Was bought with my system in Feb. of 98..don't think VuDu 2 was out yet. Anyway, thanks for the input guys!

So I thought maybe others are playing on older computers because my old computer was so slow and had problems with games.

I wouldn't be too concerned, Shatter. Sounds like you're ready to go into the future of gaming! I, on the other hand, am running on what seems like a dinosaur (although, 2 yrs ago it was top of the line!) My computer struggled with the demo before I cleaned up the HD, now it won't even RUN it! I think I'm going to have to buy a new PC myself..anywho..best wishes to you and your new comp!
