  1. A truely challenging scenario. I played the first time and lost (as the Germans). The second time I only lost one tank and had 18 casualties. My tactic was like others, to forfeit the first flag. I had my art. spotter aim for the hill, which eventually dislodged most of the riding infantry. I kept my infantry in the woods to prevent entry in the town, with some HMGS in the town itself. I allowed the first wave of Russian armor to pass over the hill when I launched a flanking attack with my Panthers from the woods of the German right flank. The key is distance - my first game I tried the same thing but kept creeping up closer, negating their superior optics. At a safe distance, and in force the panthers made quick work of 2nd wave of tanks along the ridge. Between the artillery attack and my Panthers, the whole russian assault broke down. However I did let a few through. Further back in the woods across the road I had the two AT guns waiting, and as the armor started heading towards the town, I hit them in the rear and knocked them out. Russian infantry was annhilated in the woods, so they never made it to the town. Some additional units started breaking through the German left flank, but by then my tigers were on the way (my mistake last time was to expose them, so they got killed while getting into position). This time I took the longer, less visible route and was able to push back the few intruders that made it across the road. By the end, I launched a counter attack a retook the hill - all Russian armor had been destroyed and infantry was in a panic. The key - keep the panzers at a safe distance, and use them enmasse to achieve devistating results.
  2. Got it in Manhattan @ 9:30am.... It's torture sitting here with it lying on my desk!
  3. Ah - I be having a nice bottle of HOMEBREWED American Brown Ale. Too bad, I drank all my HefeWeizen.
  4. If playing wargames actually contributed to human cruelty, then ask her if she thinks the Taliban, the Serbs in Kosovo, the Tutsi tribes in Rwanda, or basically any major attrocity in recent memory was commited by people who played, let alone had access to any type of computer war game? Now look at some of the shootings in the US. Never were wargames mentioned. AT most, they mentioned shoot 'em ups like Doom. I think people who play *real* war games would never conribute to human cruelity because they operate on a slightly higher of thought than someone who plays quake all day. They understand reality versus fantasy, computer images vs real people.
  5. Remember that the Waffen SS branched out and formed units from various european countries under the guise they were protecting Europe from Communism. That is the reason many of these men volunteered. Most were not nazi's. I've read many many interviews with waffen ss veterens. Yes, the organization was comprised with a higher percentage of fanatics. Yet, many of them joined because they were considered the elite fighting force at the time. But I didn't see specifically where they were ordered to perform any types of attrocities. I believe the lower level officers were ultimatly responsible for their units behavior.
  6. Glide has no place - it did way back when Microsoft didn't have a decent 3d API, but it just isn't nessesary any more. INstead 3dfx churned out what is essentially rehashed or outdated technology at a bloated price. Nvidia eclipsed them a year ago as the premier 3d hardware maker.
  7. I've had my game corrupted also. And it was after it crashed in the middle of the game. Perhaps the game is keeping the save file open during play? Because both my autosave and manually saved game were corrupted. That leads me to suggest both files were opened when the game crashed.
  8. I just had a problem tonight...though it's not the graphics blockout problem. I was playing a night turn in Caretan OP when the machine suddenly froze. I had to reboot. When I tried to resume the saved game, both the autosave and the manual save of the operation had the following: It turned into a TINY scenario description with 15 turns. The FallshirmJager and American star icon became 2 american stars. When I tried to start the scenario...the disk turned and turned and turned. Never loaded it up, but it sure did eat up memory. I had to manually end task. FYI I am running a Celeron 450, Voodoo3, Aureal Vortex2 sound, 128mb RAM. Also Win2k with the latest service pak, latest Voodoo3 drivers. Anyone have a lockup problems? I had to reboot..couldn't even end task. Kevin
