Ricochets Causing Damage?
Sabrewolf replied to Cpl Steiner's topic in CMSF Strategy and Tactics Forum
well, yesterday I took out a Syrian tank hiding between two building (in the alley) using another tank. The two buildings on its side are completely destroyed from the shockwaves -
Don't Try this at Home, Children

area target (non arty) does not work on friendly, my infantry always use area target as a shield when assaulting -
Battle Video Recorder
Sabrewolf replied to kilorocky's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
if they indeed finally make such a feature on the next game you will most likely be able to move around the camera during replay cause you are able to do it now. Otherwise they probably have to do a top down view cause other than that they will run the problem of views being blocked especially on city battles if they opt for static camera view. -
why are there no civilians?
Sabrewolf replied to ononehand's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
will the civilian need an AI or will they react more realistically without it -
Does the optic quality only factor in when the tank are buttoned up?

Dead Tank Commander, Whats The Effect?
Sabrewolf replied to coldmeter's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Actually the most important thing is that the crew become shocked for quite some time, it could even go on for the entire turn. During this time the tank is a sitting duck and theres nothing you can do about it I would rather button my tank commander and get the sight penalty than losing him to infantry in the midst of tank battle. Also, during tank engagement the first thing that each tank will do is fire its MG which is horribly effective against unbuttoned tank commander. Tank Commanders Lose their Bottle!
Sabrewolf replied to coldmeter's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
put them on a flat terrain so that the T34 commander realize that no matter how he reverse the tiger still got LOS on him. Hopefully that will convince him to actually fire -

Efficiency in flamethrowing
Sabrewolf replied to Dr. Rosenrosen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
perhaps you should target the enemy unit instead of firing the building, its risky but shouldnt be problem since you have an MG cover as you mentioned -
its the only way to move pinned troops which would otherwise be dead in a few turns

F.O.s' w/o LOS, why let them fire at all?
Sabrewolf replied to OGSF's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I find that firing out of LOS = hitting your own troops, no matter how much I compensate for the inaccuracies, a few shell always landed on my troop and sometimes, luckyly, on the FO itself thereby ending the barrages. -

House-to-House Fighting questions
Sabrewolf replied to Ace Pilot's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Theres one scenario in CMBB where the German has a few sharpshooter, those think really can hide. It went unspotted in the 2nd floor even though my unit were in the 1st floor of the building for 3 turns. Right when I think its clear I send in my tank and the it unhide killed my tank commander. I have to pull back 1 squad to take care of him. -

additional battle-option: ELIMINATE ENEMY
Sabrewolf replied to Schoerner's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I just finished one scenario where all I needed is 1 more turn and all the Soviet army are all bunched up in one place at the edge of the map. I planned my moves by setting all the low ammo as assault units with covering fires from all the units that still have ammo left. With a huge anticipation I clicked on the GO button and suddenly the game ended cause the enemy surrendered. What a huge let down, if the AI are gonna surrenders, at least do it in the beginning of the turn so that I don't have to waste time planning a final assault building up of the anticipation. -
Withdraw Behaviour Tested
Sabrewolf replied to Treeburst155's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
hmmm I was able to use withdraw to my advantage one time to regroup my men. They were heavily under fire and scattered all over (it was one of those mission in heavy snow with limited visibility). They are pretty much useless, any order I gave them will took more than a turn to execute. So i just gave them mass order to withdraw toward my tanks in the rear. Due to the limited visibility the enemy has not seen my tanks and gave chase and was one by one targeted by my tank. I lost many men during the withdrawal but at least I managed to get a counterattack going near the end instead of being stucked and waiting to be overruned -
upwind and downwind, which is blowing toward or away ?
-
but then even if the unit is known, whether the tank actually have spot that unit is another matter. I observed that when I use the hunt command in combination of a targeting line to an enemy tank around the corner of a building or woods the tank would not immediately acquire the enemy tank upon getting a direct LOS.

Just killed my 1st tanks with infantry!
Sabrewolf replied to Pak_40_Gunner[11b]'s topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
finally got my first infantry tank kill a few days ago, got me a KV-1 -
Even if the infantry spot the enemy tank, your tank would still not see the current danger immediately if its button up

So very few surrender now. Realistic?
Sabrewolf replied to Lt. Kije's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
they'll usually surrender when they are broken and are being overrun by superior number
