I miss shock waves.

All I've got to say is I'm as excited as a giddy schoolgirl. I've been waiting patiently for this game for a long time. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
-
Wooo, looking and sounding very nice! Steve, long time no chat, drop me a line if you want to talk AI sometime.

Been a long time since I posted here. Came to check out the forums and see what is up and glad to hear Normandy is on the way!

CMX2: Can we get back to fantasising now?
a1steaks replied to Kip Watson's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Cobalt, you're right, it's just eye candy. There is no simulation for each individual in the Total War series. They are treated as a group. You cannot control each individual. It's realatively easy to randomly assign animations to a large group of agents. All this requires is storage space for the animation date. Simulating the actions/thinking for each of them is a whole different story. -

The deal with the ever increasing flood of WW2 RTS games...
a1steaks replied to Gurra's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Well, as has been stated above, they aren't going for the realism/grognard crowd. In fact, they want to stay as far away from them as possible. Relic specialize in RTS action games and they are simply trying to cash in on the current high level of interest in WW2. More power to them. -

I know some of the guys working on Company of Heroes. Believe me, they are not going for realism in any shape or form. When my buddy first started showing me some screenshots of the game before E3 I pointed out a bunch of historical inaccuracies. He told me "Looks like I've done a good job then." It will be Dawn of War with WW2 units. -
What a bummer. The only scenario I was doing well in, Highlanders as Germans, and it's the one that doesn't finish. I wish I would have known it would just be clicked through to end it, I would have at least had all my forces make a beeline for the flag. Oh well.

Yeah, must have auto-surrendered. Believe me, I was very tempted to well before the computer did.
-
You're not talking about me are you Walpurgis? I did no such thing! I let my men be slaughtered!!!
-
BigDog, I haven't gotten a turn from you in a while.
-
Has anyone in group 4 heard from Peterk?
-
I've heard from everyone in group 4 except Bigdog...
-
You live near San Francisco too Treeburst?
-
John Kettler, I live near San Francisco and have an old machine you can use. Let me know.
-
Yay, I'm in! Let me say right now thank you very much to Kingfish for organizing the tourney.
-
Yeah, I'd love to get in on the action as well. This will be the first ROW I'll miss...

1:1 Representation in CMx2
a1steaks replied to David Chapuis's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
[q] Currently in CMx1 each unit spots as a whole, meaning that two 10 men squads represent two spotting entities with only 2 hits to the CPU. If we did 1:1 man spotting this would mean not 2 but 20. That is a 10 fold increase. Forget about it... not possible![/q] Your math is a bit off. Two 10 man squads all doing per-person LOS traces would yield 200 traces, or a 100 fold increase. Obviously, you cut this down by not duplicating traces. Generally if soldier A can see enemy B you don't need to do a trace from enemy B to soldier A. -
Hey Battlefront guys, I know you stated that you don't want/need any help on the AI front, but I thought I'd make an offer anyway. Plus, if anyone on here is up for talking about Game AI in general I'm always interested. Begin self-pimping: I've been an AI programmer in the game industry for the past 5 years. I also started a PhD, but have yet to finish. A couple links to my last two published papers: http://www.nps.navy.mil/cs/cjdarken/Paull_GAME6.pdf http://www.nps.navy.mil/cs/cjdarken/WS04-04CDarken.pdf (I'm Gregory Paull) I'm also a member of the International Game Developer's Association AI committee. (End self-pimping) Anyway, I'm a huge CM fan, and would love to help out in any way I can.
