1.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Actually, amazingly enough, BTS DOESN'T have such a list. Madmatt

Hmmm...I can picture it now: Steve: Hey Charles! The guys and I have just finished another texture for Combat Mission. Charles: Great! Steve: Well, what should we do with it? Charles: Just dump it somewhere in the CVS. Steve: But what should the filename be? Charles: Uhh...I dunno...lemme just run it through this random number generator... Just kidding. P.S Will I get banned for this? 2. Err...yes please, the same goes for the sound files. How about the 3D models as well? This will make the process of creating mods a bit less tedious right? Now that I think about it, you really should release the source code too so that the CM community can make contributions to the game engine... *sigh*, of course, this will never happen. Can I at least have a Linux port?
3. I must say, JP's presence on this BBS has made it a rather unpleasant place to be.
4. Pillar, Years of surfing the internet has taught me to ignore anything: 1.) rectangular 2.) moving 3.) flashing 4.) scrolling 5.) brightly colored (i.e ads) on any website. Put all the ads you want on your site, I wager I won't even notice a single one. Personally, I won't pay for anything even vaguely related to CM, except CM itself of course. $0.02 Good luck with your efforts though, not everybody shares my views.
5. Hi, I've got this pet project for CM...anybody know where to get some good WWII 3D models on the web? ( like the ones used in CM for example ). Thanks. p.s. Did I mention that the models should be free? [This message has been edited by Cowaring Traitor (edited 08-25-2000).] [This message has been edited by Cowaring Traitor (edited 08-25-2000).]
6. Very well, but I will not rest until CM is running on Linux! ( and open source )
7. Linux is an amazingly flexible desktop client ( in addition to a powerful server environment ). I don't want to get into an OS debate, but you should really give it a try for yourself. I must admit, even working seems like play when doing it on a Linux box .
8. Regarding the suggested port to Mac OpenGL, have you considered porting CM ( or any of its descendants ) to Linux using OpenGL as well? I know this matter has been brought up before, but I would just like to voice my support for it. I know that commercial Linux gaming is still in it's infancy, but the operating system, and it's user base really is growing quite fast. Isn't the OpenGL standard common to both MacOS and Linux, or at least supported by both? According to this article on CNN's site: "...(International Data Corporation) IDC estimates that Linux commercial shipments will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25 percent from 1999 through 2003, compared with a 10 percent CAGR for all other client operating environments combined, and a 12 percent CAGR for all other server operating environments combined..." -http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9904/02/linuxgrow.ent.idg/ If you're going to develope CM 2 through 4 over the next couple of years, it might be a good idea to weigh the merits of supporting Linux too! Games are the only reason I have Windows even installed on my machine... This is just my humble ( and slightly biased opinion ), but I would like to know what BTS' latest position on this matter is. Thanks for your time. [This message has been edited by Cowaring Traitor (edited 08-12-2000).]
9. I suggested this a couple of weeks ago as well. I am almost certain that the situation is much worse for anybody living in South Africa Oh well, who needs food anyway? I could probably stand to gain from losing 4 or 5 kgs ...hmmm...maybe not Did eventually buy the game though, should be here in a couple of weeks ( I hope ). Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone Jammer. [This message has been edited by Cowaring Traitor (edited 08-11-2000).]
