    I understand where you're coming from. But wouldn't it be more sensible to warn/ban the specific troublemakers instead of threatening to close down the thread?

    For example, how many threads about CM's graphics have turned into idiotic flamefests? Yet I've never seen you or any of the other BTS employees threaten to shut down the thread and to never allow any future threads on graphics. So why now?

    Many of the people who post here are some of the longest standing members of this forum, have made a huge contribution to this forum, and have never stepped outside the rules which you're (rightfully) insisting upon. However, because of the nature of the internet, there is no way for these posters to police the 'Pool in any meaningful way. About all we can do is what we have done - heap scorn on posters who we feel are out of line.

    Nine times out of ten, this thread IS "a good natured taunt and games wanted style affair." When it's not, it's not because the majority of the posters here want it that way, it's because some yahoo - in this case Mr. Happy - decides that he wants to be Super Kewl Cespool d00d. What can we do about that?

    Ban the people responsible, but let the rest of us have our Pool.

    Talonsoft CM ripe off?

    No offense, but this is the fourth thread about this game in the past day.

    There is no basis yet on which to call it a ripoff. Remember, when CM was announced, plenty of CC-players were calling it a ripoff. Jim Rose isn't my favorite guy, but see what they can do before you slam it.

    Agreed. Guys, they've posted four screenshots and a gameplay movie. There is absolutely no basis on which to judge the game yet.

    It'd be a bit like someone coming on to this forum and flaming CM based upon screenshots from the beta demo.

    Personally, I have doubts that they can pull off what they've promised, but there's nothing for that but to wait and see. When I first heard about CM I doubted BTS could pull this off either...but they did. There is nothing to be gained by gangbanging other games' fora. For whatever reason.

    I don't especially like Talonsoft, I didn't appreciate the way they handled Sir-Tech and a few other developers, and I certainly don't feel a knee-jerk reaction to buy their games just because they say how great they're going to be.

    But I strongly believe that competition is a good thing. If it's a rip-off...oh well, then it's a rip-off. Blatant rip-offs don't generally do very well anyway, especially if the game isn't up to snuff. For example, how many reviews of RTS games have you read that say "Cheap Starcraft clone," or something along those lines (using Starcraft as an example, I never played the game). The benefits go straight to Starcraft. 1) a comparison like that will draw attention to the game by implying "hey, if you liked ResourceRaider 2025X, you're going to love Starcraft." 2)It provides an incentive for the game company (in this example Blizzard) to keep developing new ideas, and not to rest on their laurels.

    So to sum up, yay competition.

    When the CM beta was released, a bunch of people on the CC forum called it, well, a cheap knock-off with bad graphics.

    Pretty much the way y'all are doing now.

    It may be a crap game, it may be a great game. There's really no way for anyone to tell until they play it.

    A hit and run Penging is better than none, I suppose, but if you're going to criticize the Pool for being lukewarm, you could try not being such a limp-wristed nancyboy yourself.     Unless my computer problems clear up, my plan is to finish my current stack of games, but not to take any new ones after that. Sorry gimps, the Chupster's off the market.

    Overlord was the code name for the Normandy landings. You're right that Market-Garden did involve glider troops, but it was in the Netherlands and several months later.

    Heh, actually, Myst is a great example of a gorgeous game with crap gameplay. Stunning graphics, but good lord, the boredom.

    I'd rather CM do things the other way around, personally. If CM's graphics get better, wonderful. There's certainly room for improvement. But not at the expense of gameplay.
