  1. The rest of the gun crew do have jobs to do. They organize, prepare, and handle the ammo. We don't see it in the animation, but they aren't just standing there. Plus, the gun crew doesn't want to call attention to itself by firing their rifles.
  2. You can use the crop tool in your photo editor to remove the unwanted parts of the screen shot.
  3. If the men are hiding, their status will say hiding. Otherwise it will say spotting or whatever else they are doing. The men also lie down when they are hiding.
  4. One thing I miss from CMx1 was when your tank was driving along and then "crunch!!!!" Your tank just blew its transmission. I don't think random breakdowns are featured in CMx2, only bogged, then immobilized.
  5. Sounds good, seeing as how that name is not taken yet.
  6. Eric Young used to post on this forum. I sold my V4V collection to him.
  7. It would be nice to have. I have a shortcut on my desktop to the saved game folder in the CM directory and I delete files from there.
  8. I can't imagine giving movement orders for multiple units, especially in hedgerow territory. Seems like a good way to get your men killed.
  9. What I mean is that the first time a turn is played is a "play," not a "replay." CMSF had issues where you would see the end state of certain unit conditions instead of seeing them as they progressed when watching a replay. I believe many of them were fixed, but maybe what you are seeing is a holdover from that. In addition, when a unit takes heavy fire or casualties, it will automatically change a move or quick order into a fast order in an attempt to reach cover more quickly. Fast tires units very quickly.
  10. You need to click on a unit to give it orders, so you will know what kind of unit it is before you send it anywhere.
  11. I mentioned this in another thread. Some scenarios do have an optimal solution to obtain victory, but that doesn't mean it's the only way to win. Sometimes the scenario designer doesn't give the player enough time to complete the objectives. In CMSF some scenarios required infantry to cross large distances on foot and if you gave them anything other than a move order they would eventually get exhausted in the desert heat. I would ultimately end up running out of time just before I would have achieved victory. I extended the duration of the scenario in some of those cases, not because I wasn't up to the challenge, but because I wanted the game to be fun and not work. A huge difference between CMx1 and CMx2 is the AI. The AI is much better than it was in CMx1 and there can also be multiple AI plans than can trip you up even on a replay. I find the biggest change is the AI's use of artillery. I rarely had to fear arty against the AI except maybe during the initial barrage. In CMx2 the AI will drop effective arty on you if you sit still for too long.
  12. You could do what I did and charge one of the PSWs all the way up the road and back and hope it survives the trip. But seriously, all you need to do is touch the green areas with your infantry, mount them back into their vehicles, and exit.
  13. It could take years to get an Eastern Front game released as the programming for mine dogs will be quite time consuming.
  14. The "Germs" have to have separate faces so modders can add scars that every German officer has running down his face, apparently the result of some saber wound suffered in the Franco Prussian War.
  15. You say this happens during the replay. Does it also happen during the original turn? The replay may not be keeping track of the unit's status and may be showing the end state instead of the progression from rested to ready to tiring. By the way, troops recover from tiring a lot more quickly than they do from tired.
  16. I think this is what I am seeing. It doesn't happen a lot, but it happens often enough that I have noticed it.
  17. I've noticed several instances where a tank fires its main gun at a single soldier, the round hits and kills the soldier, then continues on for some distance until it finally hits the ground and explodes. Shouldn't the round be impacting the ground where the soldier is?
  18. I think they come in handy if you turn the floating icons off.
  19. If you are playing RT and find that you are missing important parts of the battle then that particular battle is better played WEGO so you have to time to observe everything. If you are already playing WEGO then you can tell if a tank is engaging a target by looking at what the crew is doing. If they are just "spotting" they don't have a target. If they are aiming, firing, or reloading then you know they are engaging a target. It's pretty easy to see what they are shooting at at that point.
  20. It's best to avoid 90 degree turns, especially at fast speeds. I try to make turns in increments using a couple of waypoints if I want a sharp turn and I use the move command instead of quick or fast. The game does this on its own to some extent, but I like to give it some help.
  21. Yes, I agree, but it's an example of a perception of the game being different even if it's not the game's fault. (Can a game be at fault? ) There are some great scenarios and awesome QB maps included with the game. Plus I really do think the AI is a much tougher opponent in CMBN. For example, if you leave your men in one position too long the AI will drop arty on them if it can and ruin your day. This didn't happen in CMx1.
