  1. Just a note on my experience. Decided to "test drive" the iMac with CM. A local dealer let me try the game on a 1999 version of the upper end iMac (equivalent to the Graphite model now out). Fabulous fog, snow, rain...great speeds and response. On the down side it appears, from posts to this forum, that the new iMacs are not so cooperative. TTate
  2. A request to the field on recommendations regarding the purchase of a new system. I am an avowed Mac fan so lean heavily that direction but am concerned over the ability of the new G4s or iMacs to handle CM and other graphic intensive games. Likewise, I see enough posts on PC graphics problems to make me cautious in that arena as well. I'd appreciate recommendations for an appropriate gaming system; eg, processor type / speed, graphics card, OS. Thanks. T Tate
  3. Thanks for the input. Here's something that worked for me tonight although I have only gone for a couple of turns using it. I looked through some of my Mac references and came across a bit that said to make sure any app using 3D acceleration is turned off (read CMBO and others) then take the ATI 3D Accelerator Extension out of the Extension folder and place it in an empty folder on the desktop. Restart the game. It works! Unlike Extension Manager, you do not have to restart the Mac. I have two Extensions, ATI 3D Accelerator and ATI Rage 128 3D Accelerator (both loaded by the ATI Installer in Custom mode). My first test was to remove both Extensions and uncheck ATI Graphics Acceleration in the drop down ATI menu next to the time display. No crashes but rough graphics. Absolutley GREAT explosions!! Testing various combinations, I found simply removing the ATI Rage 128 3D Accelerator Extension provided good results. The graphics are not nearly as nice as with all Extensions in the System Folder; but, on the other hand, nice graphics ain't much if you can't play the game. I also found that the CMBO app automatically switches to 640x480 under this solution then back to the desktop resolution when you Quit. Hope this helps some of you with the same problems. T. Tate
  4. I had a MacMagic card running on my Mac 6500/225 with a NewerTech G3 accelerator. I experienced an occassional crash but pretty lousy graphics. So, I purchased a spanking new Rage Orion and now I have fabulous graphics (fog, smoke, explosions, snow) but the game freezes almost at once. I have tried every trick in the book - I have all the latest drivers, I have CMBO 1.03, I did a clean reinstall of my OS 8.6 and gradually added in my Extensions, I have tried various resolutions (down to 640x480), I have turned off the backside cache, turned off virtual memory, disabled the graphics acceleration on the Rage, made sure I have the latest in QuickTime, QuickDraw, OpenGl and Open Tpt ... phew! Is there anything I have overlooked? It really seems that the game and the Rage card conflict. Can I reinstall and run my old MacMagic (I have another monitor) at the same time I have the Rage Orion card on board the other PCI slot? Any better solutions? This is a great game and I hate not being able to play it especially sionce I pre-ordered way last Summer. Thanks! T. Tate
  5. I purchased the Rage Orion for my Mac and what a difference! Fear in the Fog is outstanding with the great fog effects and the graphics in general are amazing. I had no idea how fine a job you all did. Now it appears that I'm stuck with the more frequent freezes. Will prowl the BB and see what is new but anything develop since I posted a couple of days back? Thanks. T. Tate
  6. Thanks for the quick reply. Here's the lowdown on the MacMagic. It is a VooDoo chip set running Glide and Rave extensions. It has 4MB of texture RAM and 4MB buffer/aux memory. Capable of 1M triangles per second filtered. It is an older card but was quite affordable at hte time of purchase. Any recommendations for a replacement? I'll try turning Virtual memory off and see if that helps the saving issue. Thanks again. T. Tate
  7. I have a Mac 6500/225 with 64 MB of RAM, running virtual memory for a total of 96 MB, OS 8.6, a MacMagic graphics card with their latest drivers, a 17” NEC MultiSync monitor set at 1152x764, a full install of CMBO with the 1.01 patch. Here are the issues I am encountering: Frequent freezes, generally after 5 – 10 turns, and typically during the action phase. Requires a hard restart of my Mac to recover. I allotted more memory to the preferred size of the application. Has occurred in every scenario I have played so far. No fog in Fear in the Fog. Rain and snow are rendered beautifully so I expected thick atmospheric fog in this scenario but only got what looked like a night action. I also notice that my resolution switches immediately to 640x480 when CM loads and then back when I quit. If this is a problem with my graphics card, any recommendations on alternatives for my machine? Last is saving games. When I issue the save command for the first time, I can save the game under the scenario’s name with an underscore. Thereafter, the only choice is the AutoSave. After a number of crashes, I have had these saved games become corrupted so they freeze the system upon launch. This is a great game – you all have done a terrific job. Any help with the issues noted above is greatly appreciated. Sincerely: T. Tate
