  1. I think it describes my attacking style...
  2. I'd echo most of the comments here. I don't like the moire patterns, but I'll live with them until maybe I can get rid of them by tinkering under the bonnet with nVidia Inspector. If that doesn't work, I'll live with them anyway. One thing that irks me more is load times, especially when editing large maps. I've just moved from a 2.4GHz Q6600 processor with 4GB RAM and a 1GB video card to a 4.1 GHz i5 6600 with a 6GB video card and I can't actually say that games or maps load any faster. I even moved CMBN to the SSD drive I reserve for FSX, and there still wasn't much difference. I'm not knowledgable enough to know whether it's insufficiently-optimised code or what, but something seems amiss with this experience. When you're in map editing mode, frequently flipping from 2D to 3D to see if it looks right, that can be a major pain on a large map. 100% agree - that's why I like it so much. On the subject of FPS...I've never been conscious of FPS in CMx2, maybe that's because I play turn-based rather than real-time, (and I can appreciate that very slow FPS can be a pain) but from my experience with FSX and all the FPS-related headaches with that (and if you haven't been there, don't go...), I can say that (within reason) the best way to use an FPS counter is to turn the bloody thing off. I'm not saying that it's what's happening with people here, but from things I've read in various places it seems that a lot of gamers seem to concentrate more on the FPS counter than they do on the game.
  3. How about this for fog of war, any areas not under observation are displayed as a map (i.e. symbols and contours similar to a paper map). Players must make their plans based on what the map tells them is there, unless their units have actually "seen" it. That would restrict the players' ability to inspect every inch of ground that he can't even see. Too difficult to do, I imagine, but it would make things interesting.
  4. Forget space lobsters, let's get some of these guys....
  5. I could only find one...right in the centre of the map, but it's fixed now, and I realised where I've been going wrong with those. Thanks again.
  6. Errrr.....yeah I never seen to get those to match up the way I'd like whatever combination I use. I'll take another look though. Thanks for the good feedback.
  7. Just for illustrative purposes, attached to this message is a (very small) CMBN map I made some time ago. PS Norman Village.btt
  8. Um...whose map are you talking about?
  9. Thanks to all for the feedback, both here and in the CMBN M&M forum. I think the best way to balance what I like doing with what people want is to make maps for scenarios I'd like to create, but QB-ify(?) them first, and then create scenarios to go with them and upload the scenario versions later. The demand for smaller scenarios is noted, which is probably the best place to start anyway.

  11. @Ithikial_AU That's an interesting idea. I remember playing Arracourt a couple of times in TOAW. I'll check it out.
  12. In all seriousness, as much as I like how the Lewis looked, I remember watching a video that showed it being loaded, and snapping the magazine into place (eventually) looked very awkward and time-consuming. Also, although I don't know if this was a factor in reality, those pan magazines look very flimsy when viewed from below, and I wonder how easy it would be to knock them out of shape during everyday use, to the detriment of smooth movement in the gun.
  13. Hello, I'm a compulsive mapmaker when it comes to wargames, and I'm returning to CMx2 after a long break that started before I really got into the map-making. I'd like to create some nice maps to share with the community but I was wondering where the demand lies. Is it for QB maps, or are players interested in maps at all? Are full scenarios what people are really looking for? I'd be happy to receive any opinions or suggestions. I currently own CMBN/MG and CMRT, and I've cross-posted this in both forums. I hope that's OK. I should be picking up CMFI/GL and CMFB over the next few months. H

  15. I'm pretty sure these photos were published well over a year ago. Nice to see the Daily Wail at the cutting edge of news reporting...
  16. Hi all, Thanks for the interest and apologies for the long absence. I think I linked it incorrectly. Try this: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=finishdown&id=2144
  17. And if you provided potato mashers at a kids party instead of a trampoline, you'd be arrested. It's political correctness gone mad, I tell you.... Holdit
  18. I've been wondering about ambushing and hiding also so after reading this thread I set up a little test: 1 US Infantry team (3 Garands and a Thompson) vs 1 German Fusilier team (3 x Kar 98, 2 x MP40). I placed the US team in heavy forest ground with 3 x trees per square, with the German squad about 100m away. The US squad had its cover arc set to 35m range, 360 degrees. The German squad was set to move ("N") towards the US position. Ground was grass with no cover of any kind. Here's what happened: First, one of the Germans fired some shots with the MP40. Then the team continued advancing. A couple more times en route, they paused to fire shots at the trees before continuing on. They did not inflict any casualties, and the US team did not respond, apart from a couple taking up the fetal position. Once the German team was in range, the US team opened fire and in seconds, four of the Germans were wounded, and the last one had his hands up. At no point did the German team go to ground, even though they seems to know that there were enemy in the trees. Or were they conducting reconnaissance by fire? This seems to suggest the the default auto-hide isn't terribly effective, but ambushes still work anyway. I'd be interested to read an expert interpretation of what went on here. Holdit
  19. A copy and paste function would solve your problem, and I believe it's been requested a number of times already. When I first started to explore the map editor, I noticed how the map could be expanded in four different directions, unlike CMx1 if I remember correctly. The good thing about this approach, I realised, is that it would allow you to take an existing large map and create a smaller map from a selected portion of it; reduce size as desired and save. But the downside is that with the maximum size of 4000m obtainable only it you start from one side or corner, you need to be careful where you start - as you have found out. I can sympathise with your situation; it must be very frustrating. I don't think there's any way to avoid having to reproduce your work the hard way, although if you take screenshots of the current map and print them out, it shouldn't take you as long to reproduce it as it did to create it the first time. Thanks, John. E-mail sent. Holdit
  21. I thought the same when my first offering (a map, submitted last week) hit 80+ downloads with nary a comment...until I looked at the background information to some of the other maps and scenarios and discovered that the ratio of downloads to comments seems to be in the region of 1 comment for every 100-150 downloads. One those numbers, your first comment isn't even overdue yet! It's certainly made me aware of the importance of giving feedback to people to make their work available for free, and the first time I downloaded someone else's map, I immediately went back to comment on it, a process I'll be repeating from now on.
