  1. Hi all. Greetings from Perth West Oz. Now that the Pacific Peso (the $A) is kicking the greenbacks butt I've decided it might be time to lay down some hard earned and pick up CMBB. I am familiar with the game as I am a proud owner of CMBO which, while I took a bath on the exchange rate with that sale, was a fantastic game and well worth it. Anyway, while the x rate is so good I thought I might also pick up a copy of the Strategy Guide. However I wanted to know if people thought it was worth it. I am not the world's best player so I am thinking the guide may be useful. Thanks tasman
  2. Hi, has anyone from Australia got the game yet? If so what did it end up costing you in $A. The exchange rate is getting better but with the $US postage it still puts the game at over $A100. I can buy it online from the UK for about A$80 and get it sent to my relatives house in UK who can then send it to me but I don't like pdf manuals so I would prefer te US version. I bought CMBO direct from Battlefront a couple of years ago and the postage seemed a lot cheaper then. I know I am only quibbling over A$15-20 but its still a lot of money. Still I do want this game. Also how long did it take for you to get the game. Thanks Tasman
  3. I have to admit I was disgusted this afternoon when I hopped on over to my favourite game site and saw that I now had to pay to read the content. If I want to do that I will buy a magazine. I thought you were supposed to lose money doing anything on the Internet. You do what you do coz you want to be famous not get rich. Also, and typical of many websites, the editor assumes that America is the centre of the universe and therefore anyone not living there will have to pay by international money order only. Well screw him. It would cost me 3 times as much as the monthly fee to get a money order from the greedy scum who run our banks here in Australia so, aside from the fact that I refuse to pay to read what I can read elsewhere for free, I can't afford too as the method of payment I am being forced to use is not economical. Doesn't this guy trust "foreigners"? Obviously his plan to make money is going to fail. Noone will spend money to read the forums (which is where most of us probably spent our time in on that site) and we can just go to the numerous other combat sim type websites around. Sure they may not be as good as CombatSim but seeing as that site will be out of existence within a month or so, I imagine all the regular contributers, reviewers, etc will start offering their work to the other sites. Don't forget those guys & girls like to keep their name in the spotlight and there is not much point having your work published on a website nobody goes to. One thing I can't work out though is this. If he is getting 14 mill hits (or whatever it was) I would have thought that the advertising revenue from banner ads alone would keep him in beer and cigarettes. A shame but that's business I guess. Happy New Year to you all. Regards, Tasman

  5. Hi all, I was looking to buy some books to help me in the game a bit and while the selection available in my part of the world is fairly small I have come across a few that I have heard were good (or at least I can buy them online in Oz) They are all by Stephen Ambrose and are called: D Day Citizen Soldiers Band of Brothers Pegasus Bridge (I want this one because I read an excerpt online and saw that my namesake - Wallwork - was the first glider pilot to cross into France in the invasion) Anyway has anyone read these (I'm sure you have) and if so do you recommend them. I am looking for readability rather than being bogged down in a myriad of detail. I don't want to do a Major in Military History here, I just want a bit more of a feel for what the fighting was like and the tactics used. Thanks Tasman
  6. Anyone know of any online bookstores in Australia that deal with militray books such as these? I'm sure I could order them from the USA but what with our crappy exchange rate and the postage costs it doesn't make it worth it. Regards, Andrew
  7. Don't worry. I solved the problem myself. I just told my V2 card to ignore any D3D games. Looks much nicer with the Geoforce that's for sure. Tasman

  9. Actually I will probably get more response here. So any help would be appreciated. The game plays okay but the graphics are not as good using the V2 as they would be with the Geoforce. Regards, Tasman
  10. A Victorian!!! Well we won't hold that against you. I'm in WA. Tasman
  11. Hi all. Just got the game and I have a question about video cards. I have a Voodoo 2 for Glide and a Geoforce Pro for D3D games. when I start CM it asks what video mode to use but only gives me the option of Voodoo 2 DX6. Any reason anyone can think of why it is not choosing my Geoforce instead? Is CM a D3D or Glide based game? Regards, Tasman
  12. Sorry Sorry. Wrong place for this post. I tried to delete it but it wouldn't let me. I am going to repost this message on the Tech forum. Tasman

  14. Arrived home from work and there was the brown Jiffy bag. Ordered on July 13 received in Oz on August 3. Not too bad. Anyway if there are any complete newbies in Oz (or anywhere else) who want to have a PBEM game let me know. My ICQ number is 72170203. Regards, Tasman
  15. Thanks for all the replies. I will go back and retry the demo armed with this new knowledge. Goanna, I would like to try PBEM when I get the game. Do you have an ICQ number? Regards, Tasman
  16. Hi, I have ordered the game and to pass the time while it makes its way to Australia I have been playing the demo a few times. A question I have relates to enemny platoon, command, battalion, etc HQ units. Most of the time I have been ignoring these units and concentrating on killing the units that generally shoot back at me. However should I be doing this? What effect does killing those units have? I'm sure this info is in the manual but I haven't got the game yet so I can't check. Also what effect does keeping my own command units close to my troops have? And how do you resupply your mortar teams when they run out? Thanks Tasman
