  1. Interesting. This makes air support not so useful in the Nijmegen campaign (so far) as it's rare for the lone CAS/artillery spotter (the one they tell you not to lose under any circumstances) to have eyeballs on any specific targets, and so far most of the targets are under heavy forest, although often right on the edge of it.
  2. I tried searching for "air support" and CAS but didn't find any threads referencing what I'm seeing, any pointers would be welcome. I'm playing the Nijmegen campaign and I'm finding two behaviours in CAS that are unhelpful. 1) I'll wait the 9-12 minutes for CAS to show up, having targeted a large area. They will fly in, "attack", "come around" and leave without actually firing at anything. I assume this is because they didn't see any targets. 2) More humourously because of #1, often air support will attack my men or vehicles, even under cover, well behind (in other words where the CAS spotter should have informed them of where my advance is and is heading) the target area. This has even happened when the target area is a couple of action spots in diameter on a spotted target, and my men were 50-80 action spots away, with large copses or other terrain features between them and the enemy. The last couple of missions I ended up not using much air support at all because of my fearing CAS more than the enemy. I don't seem to recall air support being such a gamble in the past with CMBN. So what am I doing wrong - how are people using their air support in the campaign?
  3. Yup, same thing here, all trucks to safety and minimal casualties. I'm guessing the victory conditions are screwed up or the briefing isn't accurate or both. I noticed a lot of Muj. exiting off the side of the map, so possibly you're supposed to interdict them as well. Hopefully the campaign will be reviewed for the next patch. It's like that mission in the Marine campaign where the Syrians were given a humunguous amount of points, and you couldn't win no matter what.
  4. Solved the problem - when I reinstalled CMSF it must have defaulted to "ATI Left Click Compatibility" "On", I just turned it "Off" and the problem went away...I knew it had to be something easy...
  5. I've been noticing this a lot since I did a fresh install and the 1.04 patch. I click where the green cursor is and the movement path deflects. It seems to happen near walls...
  6. I had the same bug as molotov_billy During setup and during play unless I used an overhead view I couldn't area target the trench - some views seem to make targeting and movement commands snap to odd places. I haven't noticed this before, only with the scenario...
  7. I noticed the same dispersed squad problem in a few scenarios lately, all seem to involve buildings. I did the cumulative patch (in other words I had already patched up to 1.03 and installed the 1.04 patch for those who had already installed the 1.03 patch) I wonder if that's part of it (or a red herring). Nick
  8. Yes please. Something that really grabs your attention, maybe even an enforced pause in real time.
  9. birdstrike, I didn't notice any "preserve" objectives in the scenario editor - I played 1b, maybe you forgot to add them, or I don't know my way around teh scenario editor as yet... I think a little damage should be ok, just not levelling the mosque entirely, especially the center bit.
  10. This scenario killed me. I finally won after the 4th try. It was awesome. Spoiler**** I did find that it was very hard to hit anyone on the rooftops, more a game problem than a scenario problem. Also as usual pathfinding resulted in a number of cancelled moves as Strykers tried to go the long way round. The first few times I was hesitant to use the artillery in the Mosque area as I thought I was meant to 100% preserve it, finally on the 4th go I was so mad that I did target using AP and that really kept the enemy's head down. Organizing the squads after dismounting is a pain, but probably realistic. It would be easier of air support and arty came online a big sooner in the scenario, but without support those first 15 minutes are really fun and hairy. The lack of Javelins also keeps it from being a typical building smasher (I didn't even fire any during the 4th go) Again, most enjoyable.
  11. So I managed to occupy the Government buildings. I got no points. Looking in the editor they are marked as "Destroy" for 5000 points, but the briefing says to occupy them...not to destroy them, specifically... Also advancing along the highway is way too easy...otherwise a very cool scen...
  12. Ok, I know there are much more important things to do with the next 4 patches, but I thought I'd throw this out. As you get more and more scenarios saved on your hard drive over the years, it becomes very difficult (for me) to remember which ones I've played before. It would be really great to have some sort of way of marking scenarios that have been played to completion. I told you it was insignificant.
  13. Well they are great models - I only wish I could do some modelling for the game - if you guys need a canteen cap or something else inconsequential modelled as an stl, iges, etc let me know... But for those that don't know how much work is in each of these objects, I can only guess that you must have days if not weeks in each one... And that Styker...wow. How many polygons?
  14. What software are you guys using to make the models? Ever since I got into 3D modelling (with Rhino) I've wanted to ask...
  15. My great uncle, John Franklin Carter, was the head of one of Roosevelt's "spy" rings, gathering information through his journalistic and social circles, as well as gathering info from Germans in the US. I was pleased to see quite a bit about him in "Roosevelts Secret War" by Persico. My elderly cousins Mark and Vera were, according to family rumor, in the OSS as well, but no stories from them were ever passed down. Everyone else was either too old or young to take part. Of course there were all the people in my wife''s family who vanished in the holocaust, or fighting as partisans in Russia. Never Again!

  18. I'm glad to see I'm not crazy and that it happened to someone else. The fact that it called a ceasefire and not a surrender sort of ruins the scenario, as I was about to win (probably) and got a minor defeat because the russkies had control of the two VL's
  19. I started again from turn 16, and again got a cease fire on turn 28 - I definitely didn't hit the cease fire button between 16 and 28 this time. Very curious.
  20. All my units had ammo, the least was 3, with most units having between 15-30 units of ammo left. Only one unit was panicked. The scenario is "Regiments Die Ten Times" and is a German attack. As for hitting the cease fire button by accident, I don't think I did as the little confirmation screen comes up. I did reload the ending turn and try selecting a ceasefire and pressing "no" to confirm, which maybe cancels it if I did by accident(? does it?) but the game still ended.
  21. I was playing GD420220, a Michael Dorosh scenario (excellent), and on turn 28 against the AI I suddenly I got a "Both sides have agreed upon a cease fire". I had a morale of 76% and the AI 56%, and I had plenty of ammo left and was on my way to taking the VL's. Pretty annoying given how much manouvering I did to get into a good assault position. This is with version 1.03. Any good reason why this would happen?
  22. Are there any good pictures or drawings of the BT-5 on the web? I found a few sites that had side views, but was wondering if Google overlooked any other sites showing more views. TIA
  23. In a few games lately I have noticed troops seeking cover in buildings that are on fire, and staying for a few turns. I didn't think to save any turns showing this but thought I'd bring it up.
  24. As tacitus says below, it would be nice to have the .exe part of the patch separate for downloading from the .bmp files etc. 35 megs is a large download and I really would prefer to have it broken up as well. Tacitus Junior Member Member # 9805 posted October 17, 2002 03:26 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please may the (great} patch be made available in portions of 10 Meg max. I suspect that a lot of peoples Internet setups and speeds of downloads prevent downloads much greater than 10 Megs. I posted this request soon after the games release and one of the (favourable) replies said "What that size?!!That`s frigging huge!!!Can`t imagine anything that size." SO PLEASE CAN WE HAVE IT IN BITESIZE CHUNKS.
  25. I would shoot them too as it appears that now they can shoot from behind friendly troops, unlike in CMBO where they had to get right up to the front line - first time it happened, a FT shot from well back in a factory, over a full platoon of it's men at some troops advancing outside towards the factory. A nice surprise that makes the Ft lass vulnerable in combat.
