  1. mfred "So, tell me how the warez site got the game so early in the first place????????" The Warez scene revolves around status. -you get status for having a particular software cracked first. -you get status for breaking hard protection like hardware dongles and progs which have multiple protections in numerous spots. CD-keys and CD-required to play are not hi-status protections aka they are trivialy cracked. 0-day warez were the norm a couple years ago (not sure now) that means you or more likely your 'gang' of crackers/coderz/courierz got the progie cracked and spread the same-day or even before being shipped to retail. To answer the question above, they probably got it from the CD-mastering service that BTS used. BTW Organized crime is into the forging of software (manuals, holographic pictures, all that) big ticket stuff like Office and Windows not games, not warez. There is little to no money in warez, duh! You can down load it for free. There are some service's for a price like some guy in the Czech republic that will send you a DAT tape per month of "all" the warez for that month and the fabled $1 CD's from HK containing hundreds of programs. About the sites endless pop-ups, porn, and other baner adds etc, those are all a gimick. 99-100% of those just lead around in circles to get lots of hits. Almost all you will find are cracks and files that are really free anyway like that SP world at war thing. A software company can make casual copying a pain which is usually enough to limit causual thieves but you can not stop warez through technical means. A final observation. I bought CM. I want BTS to be successful (mostly cause I want to see the demise of the current publishing/distribution model of software and other media (BTS is self pub/distrib) but, also because they made a terrific freaking game and deserve to it. Although I hope they consider a linux port for cm2, (more market share than Mac, BTW) But, some of you guys blow things all out of proportion. C'mon, there are more important things to get your knickers in a twist about than $50, $50 that BTS actually got in this case. Take your frustrations out in the 'CM field of battle' not on each other.
  2. G4a I think :USERNAME: was talking about the website on your 'profile', I don't think it is yours though just one you liked. Or did you do it? I think it was funny as hell esp this wav file from a link off that page. http://www.angelfire.com/ia/LOL/images/2hell.wav I fell on the floor I laughed so hard. It seemed oddly apropo to this series of posts. BTW how come you jumped on :USERNAME: I think he was trying to compliment you. BTW isn't G4A like a position in military G1 G# G4 is intellegence officer, no?
  3. The updated mouse driver solved my mouse lock up problem. and none of my other problems seem to be reoccuring so wiping my system paid off. back to slaughting those red devil bandits from the sky.
  4. Um, this machine is one that is not 'clocked. And this is not my whole machine locking up just mouse movement+click Everything else works. I am using a logitech trackman with the wheel. I had not installed special drivers for it. (Duh, its a mouse problem) I just downloaded the drivers and installed and some registry file that talks about making it work with games such as rougue spear and Quake (both 3d games)) maybe my lockups are when I accidently hit the wheel and that freaks out 3d/directX games. Will inastall and report back success later. It seems intermittent but seemed to lockup when moving the trackball really fast (spinning it) faster than a mouse normally would go. I tried to avoid moving it fast and did not have it lock up through the whole 3 battle of Villers-Bocage. Maybee just coincidence. Thanks for the support repsonses BTS and everyone else.
  5. well I nuked my whole system installed fresh win98 2nd edition directx 7.0a CM CM patch It worked for about 1 hour now I get the mouse lock up again. I am Very, Very Sad. I'm really kickin brit butt in Wittman Op and hate to have to reboot my machine every 4-5min I think it started with the patch the first time. BTW I can still move the cursor by using Windows Accessability features and the number pad. So, I can always save my game. Anyone have any ideas? I will, eventually, play some other games and see if the problem is specific to CM
  6. I tried to put lots of space between the SPOILER and the actual spoiling data. the post mechinism took it all out. Sorry if I screwed you up, Tom. I tried to make the spoiler obivious, gonna try to edit my message now.
  7. SPOILER below Playing this operation right now. 'villiers bocage' Sp? I was curious to other peoples results I am in battle two. and had a question about the troops I recieved between battle 1 and 2 SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Battle one: 5 tigers + some infantry I used the inf as spotters to keep an eye on what all that armor around the village was doing. I also split the squad and the half with the faust waited in ambush at a crossroads. He eventually got a firefly woohoo. But, died for his efforts The 3 tigers in the back wasted all the armor save one cromwell then two went off towards the vilage down the the dirt road to the right. The last one got hull down and held the rear wasting a bunch more tanks until a firefly got him Wittman and hi pal did not have good first shot luck missed most everything. But they just sat on the road and blasted everything that tried to move. croms 1/2 tracks infan crew etc. Eventually my inf reported all the tanks headed toward city guess they decieded advancing up the road was hopeless. I was afraid of asaulting infan and it seemed that more reinforcements were comming at my back down the road were my rear guard lay dead. So Wittman and pal turned around and headed away from town to eliminate the reinforcements. He did, I think it was a firefly and some croms. The AI massed like 20 vehicles in the town near the bocage, just a massive traffic jam. seemed silly. also his fireflys hung out in town a long time before trying to engange maybe they were held on some sort of 'release' schedule overall I thought the AI did a poor job I lost two tanks and wasted like 4 fireflies and 10+ others plus lots of support vehicles. Battle two: Wow did I get a lot of forces. Does this mean I suck since I read in the manual that you get more reserves if you are doing poorly. I lost 2/5 of my force but they were late in the battle and killed alot in return. my spotters have fled the city first off wittman wastes a crom + carrier on the asphalt road. I am creeping slowly up 3 approached with one reserve along the road to the far left. Using infan to scout. Man am I going too slow were is everyone. Finnaly around turn 7 or so I encounter some enemy tanks at range plus a crom and some support vehicles trying to lay an ambush, silly brits ambushing is for stugs, which I began to waste 2 stewarts 2 croms 1/2 and carrier I lost one squad in a 10m fight with a cromwell hidden behind bocage, ouch. there is a firefly that I can see but no LOS which is worrying me. 8. After nuking nvida's and reinstalling diamond's drivers my previous problem has not returned. Although I am also not letting CM be idle, etc. I have another problem that is becomming very common. My mouse keeps locking up I have use of the keyboard but the mouse stops moving and even after I kill CM my mouse will not unlock. I really thing it is graphics/DX related since it has started to happen All the time like every 5 min or so. AND ONLY in 3d DirectX games. I am running win98 proly NOT second edition. with all sorts of 'windows updates' I check memory usage but nothing seems to be leaking. Nothing else is running. DX version is which does not seem to be 7a but when trying to patch 7-->7a the patch reports that a higher version of DX is installed. I've installed and reinstalled so many different video drivers and bits and pieces of junk from MS I think I might have to Format C: and start with a clean install. MS's 'innovation' forces me to do this about once every 6 months. WORD to the WISE: Do not use MS automatic windows update 'innovation'. Every time i installed some fix or security patch my system got a little more wonky and or slower. my sincere request for CM 2.0: a linux port. http://sunsite.auc.dk/lgdc//index.php3 http://happypenguin.org/ http://www.linuxgames.com/
  9. played mine all last night, well most of. one thing I know is Tigers with elite/crak crews and at range really kick some cromwell butt. Wasted near everything and got all the fireflies at least that I have found (one with a faust in the city, sucka) and the brits only got one Tiger in return playing the operation and just got tonnes of reinforcements. (does that mean I suck, read in the manual if you do poorly you get lots of reservers release to you during ops.) I was much happier with just 5 tigers and some infantry 'observers' now I got too much to loose.
  10. proly not due to CM but wanted to know if someone else experienced this. when CM has been idle for a while (like when I go and do some tech support for a while (yes I get to play CM while working)) esp if it has been backgrounded for a short time (press 'esc') the graphics come up funky. the terrain looks like a grid of triangles with every other triangle transparent and either showing green or my desktop. and the other every triangle flahes back and forth. I can still save game, exit, etc. albeit very slow to respone to mouse/kb actions. any ideas. btw I am using the reference drivers from nvidia which i loaded to get another game working.
  11. got mine yesterday, in the glorious citystate of San Francisco. haha played the wittman op most of the night.
  12. One testament as to how great CM is that I am actually learning some tactics or refining ones I knew from playing the game. Even some from the AI. It is so clear and intuitive with the 3d/AI/simultanous action compared to paper hexes, other computer game mechanics or even somewhat minratures. That I think is stunning.
  13. I love this forum. Great posts, knowledgable people and the occasional flame war are some reasons there are 50000+ posts. That and the fact that CM is so mind blowing cool as to prompt these types of conversations. thanks for the info and discussion. I have learned a lot and so it is a good day today
  14. I think sometimes this works in reverse. In one PBEM I've really demolished my opponet he has only a few uncaptured units left and all the infantry are routed or panicked. (well due to FOW I'm not sure but they are hightaling towards map age and under fire by several squads.) My troops aren't in great shape and I lost all my armor but they posess all the victory locations and are mostly in good cover. I don't think he is getting reinforcements after turn 28 or so, which it is now. I will lose more men under tank bombardment, but I don't think he will be able to take back any ground. I'm satisfied with my positions and don't want to advance further, so for the next 12 turns I will have no orders. Sort of boring. I will offer cease-fire next turn.(Don't really know what this means in game terms) I hope he/she does not wish to fight to the last man.
  15. My first PBEM, VoT as Ger, couple weeks ago I quit well before my reinforcements arrived. I had made a lot of bad choices based on inaccurate assumptions like bunkers are immune to arty (since the AI never bombed them) and got my ass whooped. My opponent offered me to quit and we started another game up right after that. But, now I feel sort of like a dork esp. since in the second games he had some bad luck early on but he stuck it out. So if you plaved a couple of VoT games with brainboy earlier and thought I was being a poor sport I apologize.
