  1. I'm just about to start attempt 7 (on the hardest difficulty, there really shouldn't be an option) on the first Polish battle. I was getting close to beating the Germans... before the game crashed. DOH!
  2. Whoa! And I thought I had reason to complain when I got mine in Australia (Brisbane) May 22nd. Anyway, now you've got it, get into it lads I'm still having difficulty with the first mission in the Polish campaign...
  3. 100% agree also, in CM, when you destroy somebody's tank, you can enjoy the explosion from multiple angles again and again. This is missing from ToW. I also remember requesting this feature in 2003 on the 1C's forum and GOT HOUNDED because such a feature was deemed unrealistic by the Real-time gamers  ...... now we all lose.
  4. Another difficulty I have is that even if you assign BAR guy and a Bazooka guy to CTRL+1 (Keeping the heavy weapons together), and put the rest of the squad in CTRL+2, in the heat of an assault if you double click on the squad leader to shift the point of attack, it'll select the Heavy Weapons members as well, and they will proceed to leave their cover and run forth to join the squad.
  5. Oh, and even more annoying is the way Armour STOPS, when you alter it's course/direction, very annoying when you're trying to get the tank out of emeny LOS... zig zag = death! This game has heaps of potential though, and I really want it to do well, it's just these little things that need to be sorted out.
  6. Group the squads together is handy with the CTL+#1 etc (but only really for moving troops from one location to another), anything else and you have to really micro-manage. YOu could used CTRL 1-4 for one squad. Click #1, and click STORM option on a trench, and all, running a different speeds, will mostly be cut down before they get half across the countryside, or out of the treeline. So you have to then manually seperate the squad into smaller teams. Heavier weapon troops, set them prone in the tree line and attack an area (where's cover arc option??) for a bit of supporting fire for your advancing troops. There's no point in advancing the Bazooka man to storm the trench either, so you have to set them prone and hold, your commander is armed with a 45 colt (very affective assault weapon *rolls eyes)), who's usually faster and lead the attack (i.e. die first), so it leaves you with 6 squad members armed with Garandes to take on the trench. This is real micro management... and that's without worrying about the other 6 tanks, and 2 squads, who by now have rotated in the wrong direction or have aimlessly wandered over the hill into a a pack of waiting Pak's?
  7. I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this, I've only played the first battle (numerous times, just so I can get grips with the game), and was very dissappointed to see no hedgerow country in Normandy. Where's the cover for the infantry and the defensive hedgerow criss-crossing of German MG's.
  8. I also feel you pain on this issue, Issue the HOLD cammand and move away from the action, only to come back to the trench and see your troops OUT OF THE TRENCH, and dead??? I also have a major issue of troops and armour wandering too close to enemy trenches when the "attack" option is selected. If you select attack to a Sherman to fire at a emeny panzerschek, they rotate, fire and then proceed to drive towards the bloody guy until his 75 mm is touching him... then proceeding to get blown up! I've even had troops rotating captured field guns on their own accord... when I know a threat is coming from another direction. These troops can't follow orders... I also think the HOLD command, should continue until clicked off. [ May 22, 2007, 06:06 AM: Message edited by: Prankster ]
  9. I love CM, and have also been playing it since it's inception. We have a small league and are still having frequent PBEM battles. CM doesn't have the awe affect on me anymore, but it's such a brilliant engine which I love... and I'm a big fan of the turn-based format... and in ToW, the pause button. (I'd still like to see a rewind feature though for instant replays...just to see how and why one of my platoons are now laying dead) I'm not sure if I'll be playing ToW in eight years time like I am CM.
  10. The BEST use of a free camera in a game, has to be Railroad Tycoon 3. Click and hold the right mouse button and you can ZOOM and ROTATE to your hearts content... I wished ToW was like this (as I did Company of Heroes).
  11. My major concern is the sound fx's, lameo. Hopefully we'll see a sound MOD arriving soon. Also, click on a unit, issue an order and you get a confirmation from the unit... which will then continue every 5 seconds or so, if you keep the unit selected... slightly annoying.
  12. Yep, I'm waiting also (Brisbane)
  13. My five great demos are i.e. (One that made me buy the game) 1. Combat Mission 2. Close Combat 5 3. Commandos 4. Company of Heroes 5. Medal of Honour My demo stinkers are: 1....Combat Mission 2 - The game's great, but the Demo stank! 2....Jagged Alliance 2 3....Warhammer: 40,000: Dawn of War 4....Panzer Command .. too many units on the field [ October 10, 2006, 11:20 PM: Message edited by: Prankster ]
  14. Yeah, I'm hanging out for it also... no sign of it. *sigh*
  15. Demos... without a demo, I've have never played (or bought) CM... or CM2.. or CM3.. or Close Combat 1...5! I was like many were, very, very dissapointed with CM2's demo. I do love a demo though. I must've played VOT 30 times!
  16. What concerns me is there seems to be troops everwhere on the map, especially towards the end of the AAR, after three groups of reinforcements. Me thinks in such large maps, there's going to be numberous cases of pockets of troops becoming "forgotten" about. Which rarely happens in a Turn-based game like CM.
  17. Very, very clever, I enjoyed that
  18. I'm a wargammer who like's to sit back and plan strategies also, hence not being a big fan of fast RTS games. CC on the other hand moved at a great pace that allowed startegy to develop without overwhelming the gamer. In saying that, CC maps are a lot smaller than TOW appear to be. 19. Thanks mate, can you recommend one? Or should I just "Google" it and pick one?
  20. I still want a PAUSE - REWIND option in single play! To be able to PAUSE a game and then REWIND to any point in the scenario would be awesome visually. Especially if you miss some action elsewhere on the battlefield.
  21. I tried loading CC5 on my XP, but the scroll speed even on the slowest is far to quick. :-( I've also cod CC4, but I've still go the same problem.
