  1. With respect to both topics: 1) No, the issue I was referring to happens as a result of selecting a unit. I.e., apparently this is "by design" where several of the control buttons are taken away other than the 2 unit specific ones, XXXX (can't recall) and the Undo Move button. So this was my misunderstanding of the UI. - However, the issue you noted I have also seen running under Win7 when the game is "minimized". Specifically, I'm running game in Full-Screen mode and when I alt-tab out of it to switch to another application / the desktop bad things happen, i.e. I've seen at least 1 game lock-up / crash. I'll seen this in other WinXP / Vista games running in compatibility mode under Win7. I'll have to play with it some more. ----- 2) I'll have to play w/ this some more too and look into the ref you provided. I'll then report back ----- Thx much for your time & support. And I'll report future bugs/issues to the tech support forum you ref'd. - Mike
  2. Just got the new game. Very cool, only ever owned the original SC Game prior to SC-GC. How / where do I report bugs? If this is not the right place / method, please advise. I've seen 2 bugs already, (1) is a pain in the arsz and (2) an annoyance: 1) The toolbar on the right seems to magically not display buttons you can select at certain times. Seems random, then click around on it or country flags below them on right edge and they seem to come back. Not sure if this is a bug, or game feature I don't understand. 2) When switching unit display back and forth between NATO symbols and Picture Icons I've seen the newly selected option not "Stick" / become effective after selecting it and then closing out of options screen and going back to the game map. Go back in and switch between the two options and hit OK and go back out to map and it still is not displaying the correct way on the map. After repeating numerous times the unit icon display finally switchs to match what was selected in the Options Screen. Machine: Win7 Professional O/S. i7-920 processor, ATI 5870 Graphics running game @ 1920x1200, 6 GB RAM. Game installed itself in Programs(x86) Folder, so I assume it's running in Window 7's WinXP Compatibility Mode. Mike D Denver, CO, USA.
  3. Hi All, Back in CMBO, someone had done a really cool thing and mod'd a set of the CMBO vehilce bitmap files for each vehicle with ID numbers on each bitmap corresponding to the xxxx.bmp 4 digit filename so that when you used these mod'd files and ran the game, you could see which bitmaps made up each vehicle. This was really cool and I would like to know if something like this is available for CMBB vehicle bitmap files. If so, where can one get it? Best Regards, Mike
  4. Saw this same thing in the orginal CMBO probably two, maybe three times. So, it's not something new. And, in fact suppose it could really happen. Say guy that's about to throw the satchel charge gets popped right as he's winding up to throw the thing at the enemy. Charge lands, squad takes it in the teeth and anyone that is lucky enough to survive counts their blessings. Or alternatively, is so maimed they wish they were dead. Mike
  5. Hi All, Good news for all you West Coasters here in US. It arrived here today, Monday, in Denver. So, if you havn't already gotten it, I'd suspect it will be in your greasy little paws come tomorrow. Enjoy. I'm loading it up now and cursing fact I had to work late and just now got home to play with it. Mike
  6. Thanks for the info. Sounds like some interesting, and perhaps more realistic(?), twists have been added to the campaigns. Look forward to trying them out. Mike
  7. The answer to the main question posted here is simple. Most/all of those that subscribe to and/or pay any attention to any of the Peng Challenges don't know how to read. Therefore, no reason for a printed manual. Mikester out.
  8. Ok you lucky SOB's (pardon my "French") that have the game already. Has anyone played any operations yet? How have they been changed? What improvements have been made over CMBO which certainly left a few things to be "desired" in this area? Any info you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards, Mikester
  9. Hey KT, First, as suggested above I believe, have absolutely NOTHING but the game running. Having other crap running at the same time CMBB is running chews up memory resources most definitely and CPU clock cycles more than likely as well, but to much lesser extent. Next, upgrade priorities should be fast, fast, fast, CPU, the faster the better. More memory can help as well, but I somehow doubt you are maxing out on memory if you already have 256MB and you only have CMBB running. I suppose it's possible though if the scenario / number of units in question in it is huge however. Hope this helps. Mike
  10. The texture mod's in CMBO with the faint grid lines were always extremely useful in this regard. As soon as they came out I started using them and never switched to anything else (largely because no other "more realistic" looking ones ever came out). In any event, I most certainly do hope and would be quite grateful to see similar mod's for grid lines in CMBB. Please!!! Mikester out.
  11. CoolColJ, Flags look really good. My question is as follows. The flags here as well as the ones in the demo all appear to me to be too short. When one is placed in woods and/or multi-story buildings I'd suspect (havn't seen it yet to know for sure cuz I live in good ole USA and I don't have my bloody game yet!!! ), etc., the flags are half buried in the terrain. Why are they not taller so one can easily see them no matter what terrain they are placed in?????? Regards, Mikester
  12. Just a quick note on this subject. While DVD's do have their advantages, I wouldn't go assuming all of us will have one any time soon. I for one have no intention of getting one put in my current computer and/or probably getting one in my next new one. There simply is little reason to do so. Mike
  13. Hi All, Thought I saw/heard while back (long while back being I havn't frequented these waters much of late) that the CMBB demo would be out about 1-2 weeks before the game itself releases. Does anyone know if this is still more or less the plan? Mikester out. [ August 11, 2002, 03:08 PM: Message edited by: Mikester ]
  14. Try: Here's just 2 I found. I'm sure there are others. Both these were in the 2001 archives. http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=018023 http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=020913 Regards, Mikester aka Mike D
  15. Hey, I know this has been discussed in some detail here in past. You'll probably have to search back into the 2001, or even maybe the 2000, post archives though to find it. Mike
  16. Hi All, Been long time since I've been here. Too tied up these days with Grad School. I see a lot of the same old crew here though by names in the posts. Tried doing a search, didn't come up w/ much. What I'm interested in is how have operations been changed in CMBB from what we had in CMBO? It always seemed to me there was some definite room for improvement in this aspect of the game so hopefully there have been some changes/additions to the operations Thanks, Mikester out. Aka Mike D.
  17. I've probably seen a few cases where it did help. However, you have to keep one basic tenet in mind. The shortest distance (and therefore minimum time exposed out in the open) between your start point and final point you want to get your unit to is a straight line. Any "jinking" simply increases your time of exposure in the open. Thus making you, on average, more exposed than you would be in trying to complete your move. The kind of jinking I generally practice with some success is moving forward to peek out from behind edge of a hill (i.e. hull down), or between little openings between buildings, etc., and then in same plotted move, move back in reverse. I'll often sort of side step my way across the brow of a hill/ridge to move laterally doing this and looking for opportunitys to fire on enemy armor. Hope this helps. Mikester out.
  18. Well? I'm lazy. I want one place to go get all the goods on the new CM. Where's The Beef? (ala Wendy's commercial from years ago). Thanks. Mikester out.
  19. Hey Voidhawk, Cool, thanks for the info. And, your Shameless Plug to your site I think is EXACTLY what I'm looking for in the end. What I needed to know is precisely which textures corresponds to different parts of each specific vehicle and this is precisely what your site shows. Great! Thanks much, Mikester
  20. This is a simple one. Has anyone documented which .bmp files correspond to which vehicles in writing somewhere? For example, what are all the .bmp files associated with a Panther Panzer V G (late) tank? If this is documented, can someone point me to where I can find it? I'd search for this, but don't even know what to search on to find it. What I'm looking for is Master List which shows all vehicles in CMBO and which .bmp files correspond to each of them. Also, anyone that can tell me which .bmp file corresponds to plain old standard green tile on the map could save me some time trying to hunt around for that too. Thanks much, Mike [ March 09, 2002, 10:36 AM: Message edited by: Mikester ]
  21. Hey TerrorX, I'm looking to buy whole new system (actuall going to build it myself). So I've been doing some research on components this week. I've been happy w/ my Ge Force 2 card to date and plan on staying with nVidia card. What I've found seems to be the more expensive one's are the Ge Force 3 Ti 500's. More reasonably priced and not much loss in performance (relatively speaking) is Ge Force 3 Ti 200 based cards. Watch out for Ge Force 4's that are out. Not anything wrong with them, but I don't think the mainstream ones are NOT out yet. Everything I've seen thus far that you can actually buy in a Ge Force 4 is "MX". This is the cheapy version of the Ge Force 4 line that they are coming out with. Cost less than Ge Force 3 Ti 200 and 500 based cards and have the performance to match. If you want to read up for yourself, here are two excellent resources that do go research and testing on all sorts of hardware including video cards: http://www.anandtech.com http://www6.tomshardware.com/ Good Luck, Mikester out. 22. Hi, I assume same holds true for Win2000. No difference running CM on Win2000 vs Win2000 Professional? Thanks, Mike
  23. Thanks Schrullenhaft! That's exactly what I needed to know. --- I'm leaning toward XP professional just because I'm going to start toying around with MS Visual Studio .net and C# programming and want to use the networking features in Pro version to hook up couple computers here in the house and possible setup one of them as a web server to start up a webpage. --- Thanks again.
