Heh heh...little do you know, but I colaborated to replace all your open ground tiles with rocky tiles. Good luck avoiding my AT ambushes now you fiendishly clever opponent you.

Like limestone or suchlike. I did only the "summer" version, as lighter rocks under snow won't improve visibility.

    MJO (Tom?),

Thanks you so much. That definitely has helped me see the rocks much better. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

I hope my opponent Wesriedau grabs this mod as well, or he may be in for something he is quite unaware of. Wes, you reading this?

Your thread was worthless, but thanks for the snide sarcastic criticism...thats always helpful. I've been on the forum since the first game came out. I understand how it works, you tool.

When I double click it I get 'This application has failed to start because vcl60.bpl was not found. Re-installing may solve the problem'.

Am I doing something wrong? I do use the die sheets but it does seem to have quite a lot of the same number, especially high ones. I may even try to dig out one of my old ten sided die :(

Same problem here. Any idea where we can locate the vcl.60bpl?
  5. In light of Biltong's fine user campaign rules, it would be excellent if CMBB had some additional options.

    1. The ability to import units from the final QB save. This option would be presented similarly to the import map function. By selecting import units, the units would be imported, but not the map. This would allow users to carry over units from one QB map to another.

    2. The ability for imported units to have their ammo allocation set to the same level as established in the QB parameters.

    3. A random unit select button located in the force selection screen of a QB. This button would randomly select a user defined point allocation of units from the selected force pool based upon user defined parameters. This would be a toggle that allows human selection and randomn selection to occur on demand on the same screen.

    4. The ability for units in imported final saves of QB to have their ammo levels set to a user selected level.

These, coupled with products like Biltong's rules may be just the right solution for the lack of a campaign in CMBB.

  6. The following Battle Drill is taken from FM 7-8 INFANTRY RIFLE PLATOON AND SQUAD and FM 7-92 THE INFANTRY RECONNAISSANCE PLATOON AND SQUAD (AIRBORNE, AIR ASSAULT, LIGHT INFANTRY).

It is similar to the Canadian Battle Drill with the exception that it contains a bit more detailed than the 1954 document.

    F-2. REACT TO NEAR AMBUSH

The reconnaissance platoon/squad may also be required to react to an ambush. The actions taken by the reconnaissance platoon/squad are determined by its distance from the enemy at the time of the ambush. The near ambush is one in which the killing zone is within hand grenade range of the enemy executing the ambush.

    a. When a reconnaissance platoon/squad is caught in a near ambush soldiers in the kill zone carry out one of the following actions without order or signal:

    (1) If cover is not available, soldiers assume the prone position and throw concussion or fragmentation and smoke grenades.

    (2) If cover is available, soldiers assume the prone position, seek the nearest covered position, return fire, and throw fragmentation or concussion and smoke grenades.

    b. After the explosion of the grenades, soldiers in the kill zone return fire and assault through the ambush position using fire and movement.

    c. Soldiers not in the kill zone identify the enemy location and place accurate suppressive fire against the enemy positions. Fire is shifted as the soldiers in the kill zone begin to assault. (Figure F-2.)

    d. Personnel in the kill zone continue the assault to eliminate the ambush or until contact is broken.

    F-3. REACT TO FAR AMBUSH

The far ambush is one in which the kill zone is outside hand grenade rangeof the enemy executing the ambush. The actions of the reconnaissance platoon/squad are as follows:

    a. Without order or signal, soldiers in the kill zone assume the prone position and return fire. They take available covered positions and continue well-aimed fire at the ambush position. Smoke grenades are used to impair enemy observation of the kill zone and affect his ability to place aimed fire into the kill zone (Figure F-3).

    b. Those soldiers not in the kill zone continue the assault until the ambush is eliminated or contact is broken.

    c. The reconnaissance platoon/squad leader requests indirect fire when the enemy withdraws or the separation between the elements is far enough to avoid friendly casualties. Smoke is used to impair enemy observation.

I replaced the main menu buttons and the multiplayer buttons - except the "Go Back" button which is used in both scenario selection and multiplayer menu in different locations, so I am not sure what to do about that one...

[EDIT]: Oh, and the buttons do light up when hovering over them.

Where is it available for download?

My other grandfather ran away from any kind of work all his life, and so he escaped serving on the front, too. He became a chauffeur for SS brass, and so he ended up coming to Holstein among the entourage of the last government of the Reich under Adm. Dönitz. His family (my mom and her mother) fled before the Red Army from Pommerania reunited with him in Holstein.

    Sytass,

My grandfather, my grandmother, and my mother also fled from East Prussia to Holstein. They lived originally in East Prussia in a town named Rehhof, now named Riejevo, Poland.

The left their house on Januray 25th, 1945 and made the trek westward in one of the worst winters ever. They originally went to Danzig but thankfully avoided taking the Wilhelm Gustloff.

They were in an open horse drawn carriage and eventually made it to safety.

The family remained in Holstein until 1952. My Grandfather became the local veterinarian to farmers and was able to sustain his family that way. The family then moved to a home near Bad Rappenau.

One thing I forgot to mention was that they stayed with relatives in Holstein. Relatives who are still there. I only know her as Tante Bertha. I'll have to find out her last name (it is not Wilhelmy) It may be Schramm... I recall her having a pig farm (I was young the several times we visited).

It would be very interesting if members of your family knew or know members of my mother's family.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  9. Both my uncles fought on the Eastern Font.

The oldest was an Aufklarer in the 3rd Motorized Division from the beginning. He was wounded and evacuated prior to the encirclement of 6th Army. He was never able to rejoin his comrades and was subsequenty assigned to a regiment in Italy. He fought in the withdrawal from Italy, and then faced the Yanks on the Western Front. At war's end, he and his crew abandoned their Achtrad and walked to areas where they could search for family or friends. He was never captured or processed. It's a damn interesting story to hear him tell of the struggle to find kin folk after they had all been displaced.

The youngest was an Infantryman in the 26th Dom Division. He was captured in 1943 outside Smolensk. My mother and her parents thought he was dead. In 1946 they learned he was alive. In 1948, he returned home to them.

Both are still alive, and both are remarkable men.

The youngest lived out a longtime dream of his a few years back. He swam the Volga. (He was a POW there and helped rebuild Stalingrad. I imagine the desire to swim the river was born during those days, as he never saw it while serving.)
