1. Yet another day of disappointment Well I hope they release CM2 in the winter. At least we can then opt for dog sled delivery which is sure to be faster than airmail. Who would have thought that folks in Europe would be getting theirs first Chris
2. Regular mail has come and gone here in Mississauga. I can only hope that the Canada Post truck makes a stop. Chris
3. Thanks germanboy, I had a look at the thread. Yes one could probably simulate it using FO's but then it would run into problem of delays. More importantly it would give the player tactical control of it which imo is ahistorical. Taking the control out of the player's hand except during setup would go a long ways towards recreating the 'friction' of battle. If we simply rely upon FO's then I doubt that the frequent problem of the troops being left behind the barrage would happen. I guess I like the possibility of having one's assault plans go awry when your troops unexpectantly run into a minefield or pillbox that was not knocked out. All this having the effect of separating your troops from the safety and suppressing effects of the barrage. Chris
4. Dear BTS, Would it be possible to incorporate in a future patch a creeping artillery barrage as a purchase option. I think this should only be available as an Assualt option (since historically they were part of a planned operation). Realistically, the owning player should not have much control over it other than the area of effect, time of start, speed of advance, and duration. In other words, once these parameters have been input during the setup phase, the owning player would have no further control over its execution. The tremendous power of these would be balanced by the inability of the player to exercise tactical control over it. I think this would realistically simulate the historical difficulties that were encountered with creeping barrages. Very effective if the troops followed it closely, but if they became hung up in any way then the barrage would continue without them. Reading any of the histories, we see they were an integral part of a prepared assault (at least with Commonwealth). Without the inclusion of this feature in the game it will be more difficult to recreate historical scenarios. Chris (still hoping for CM today)
5. Another source of a possible leak: The CD duplicator? Chris
6. Marcus It is a tracked amphibious vehicle Chris
7. Minister Stops Import of Game (CP) Heritage Minister Sheila Copps announced today that she has instructed Canada Post to intercept all shipments of a game titled "Combat Mission". Copps is quoted as saying "It seems that certain radical elements in this country are trying to glorify war. We have always been a peace loving nation and feel a game like this can only encourage military activism." Former War Heritage Museum director and well known Canadian historian Jack Granatstein was strangely unavailable for comment. Copps added "We must do all in our power to prevent the rampant militarism that exists in America from infecting our culture. Those individuals who have been trying to import this material will be brought to justice!" a fervently imaginative chris
8. Does anyone know of anybody who has gotten it in Canada yet? (folks who made the cross-border run don't count) Chris
9. Bill, You might want to create your own mission. That way you can customize things so the game will be properly handicapped. You might even do this: have your son make the map (since he seems to enjoy that) and you can do the forces. Then you both have the satisfaction of playing a mission that you created. Chris
10.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: WOW thats GREAT!! I hope that will mean maybe some extra money hire some top of the line graphics artists (maybe like some of the folks who worked on Graphics for Myth or Panzer Elite) so the Combat Mission and CM2 can have more Eye Candy and really state of the art 3D graphics. (stuff snipped) Thanks again BTS I'm glad things look so profitable!!!! -tom w

Actually one thing I think they should spend all that extra cash on is a nice 2 week vacation with their wives to Hawaii or [insert favourite exotic locale] Enjoy the fruits of your labours BTS! Chris
11.
quote:
Originally posted by marcusm: Gen. Sosaboski. There's no need to bash Market Garden. Ok there was heavy losses but the overall gains were worth it. The airborne knew what they were getting into so there's no need to cry for them either. Marcus [This message has been edited by marcusm (edited 06-26-2000).]

Actually Marcus, I don't think the 1st Airborne knew what they were getting into. They fully expected to be relieved long before XXX corps finally arrived. A sad waste of an exceptional division! I think it can be argued a far better use of those resources devoted to Market Garden should have been spent on clearing Antwerp and the The Scheldt estuary. Even if Arnhem had been taken, the logistical problems facing the allies would not have disappeared. Open Antwerp and suddenly your supply lines are vastly shortened and you have one of the finest ports in Europe to unload your supplies. Chris
12. Congratulations on the fantastic sales levels BTS! I'm glad to see you are being rewarded for a superior product and service. As to CM2 going to happen: Woohoo! (I only wish that CM1 arrives before CM2 ships [ack! I'm beginning to sound like Manieri with all my whining] ) Chris
13.
quote:
Originally posted by Boris Balaban: Will we in Canada pay duty and/or GST? Does any body know?

Boris, I expect we will have to pay GST + the $5 Canada Post handling fee. Chris
14. Still no sign of it here in Mississauga. The regular mail has come and gone. I'm perched in my observation post looking for any signs of a Can Post truck. My card was charged back on the 15th I think. a slightly pessimistic chris
15. Maybe we could get the Canadian Airborne in a patch? Chris (who really, really hopes that CM touches down on his Canadian soil today)
16. Okay, you guys raise a good point. I may have inadvertantly helped the pirate scum by starting this thread. I guess it was that I was so darn ticked, I wanted a friendly forum to vent in. A now sheepish (but still somewhat fuming) chris
17.
quote:
Originally posted by sniperscope: chris, email BTS right away provide them with the link to the site ASAP. sniperscope

Okay, I've sent the post with the URL to Steve. A still fuming Chris
18. Sorry Guys, But I'm in vent mode. It burns me up to think some slime ball who pre-ordered is now filling the net with pirated copies of this game. Is there no sense of decency left in this world? I can't understand how someone with even a shred of a conscience could do this to Steve and Charles after they have worked so hard to bring us this game. This rant was brought to you by some guy who goes by the nick Macroshaft who posted in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.war-historical asking for links to a warez site since his file 15 doesn't work. Anyways, this guy is getting royally flamed and deservedly so!! I wish there was some way of disabling the game for non-registered users. Anyways, rant mode off Chris
19. Still no joy in Mississauga. Although I don't feel quite so bad since we all seem to be in the same boat. I wonder, could we be the victims of some of our american brethren pulling a Patton and interdicting our supply lines? Although with the update today saying the last orders have only gone out today, it may be a longer wait than we expected Chris
20. 0311, Your worst fears are realized. While I don't have the game just yet, I have heard definite rumours of there being those boxing glove equiped Kangaroos about. Chris

23.
quote:
Originally posted by rwcanuck: Got my copy today! I live in Vancouver and went across the border in Washington State to pick up the game which was delivered to my business PO Box there

Well RWCanuck, although we are all jealous, you should get a medal for showing dash and initiative by staging that cross border raid! Enjoy! Chris
24. Robertpat, I wouldn't say it was necessarily that their weapons were bad. The sometimes poor showing of the Canadians can be traced more towards poor leadership. A fascinating read for any Canadian (and others too) is John English's "Failure in High Command:The Canadian Army and the Normandy Campaign" Chris
25. Nothing here in Mississauga either. At least I have next week booked off for vacation. I wonder what I'll do? Chris
