1. The most disturbing footage was the execution of that wounded russian soldier. I'm sure it happens on both sides, but DAMN that was cold blooded. I felt sorry for that poor bastard. If they Chechens think that showing them executing prisoners is going to win them sympathy, they are more ****ed up then all those years of kidnappings, rape, and torture would suggest. I can't blame the Russian goverment for trying to stamp them out once and for all. I'm sure war crimes are rampant in that part of the world nowdays on both sides, but Chechens should be smart enough not to broadcast it. -Phandaal
2. I lost on Fear in Fog while playing as the Americans. AI tact victory. I lost all my tanks, and it was over after that.
3. Wow, I just finished this operation as the Germans with the AI troops +2 exp. Quite the endurance test I think playing as the Germans. At the end of the operation I was down to one operational tank, the rest either hit mines, got stuck, and two or three knocked out. Overall it was a real struggle sometimes, and I lost about 50 men KIA. I sqeaked out a Tactical Victory. The Jumbo was running around out there, and I was dreading the confrontation with my last panther. Just glad I won!
4. Me thinks the Gods are angry with you. Phandaal
5. Yeah, I saw a documentary about German Tanks, and it talked about the MAUS, and how it never saw action. At least that is what it said. The crew would need special breathing masks inside the MAUS and would incorporate many of the features found in modern tanks today. They also had some diagrams of German SUPERTANKS, that were just drawing board fantasies. [This message has been edited by Phandaal (edited 06-26-2000).]
6. HELL NO I WON'T DOWNLOAD!! HELL NOT I WON'T DOWNLOAD. Hell, If I pay $50 bucks for a game there will be a manual and a CD. Phandaal.
7. Ahem...I guess I'll be first if that's ok. I think you are looking for a review of the operations/senarios vs the game play as you have played the demo lots. The game is excellent, and the huge scenarios are real battles with lots of tanks, mines, guns, fire, blood and guts. Its a thrill to see your attack break through the enemy line and watch the enemy troops flee in terror. Artillery from hell with the big guns 240mm,8 inchers. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe (per Rutger Hauer)I've seen 4 tanks knocked out by artillery in one scenario. A Jumbo go head to head with a KT and an entire company wiped out to the last man by a armored thrust through my line. The individual scenarios each have about a 2 week replay value to them as you can try different tactics here and there. The operations are nice, but I was hoping for some information between the battles to explain what is happening, and so forth. For example. Instead of just "Reinforcements have arrived" it would have been nice to explain why these 10 tigers have been freed up and are coming to you aid. It would give a better sense of emersion. I love having access to all the cool German toys, as well as the surprises I have in finding out the capabilities of the individual tanks, and units. I didn't realize many things about the equipment until I played with them. It is a learning experience as well because I'm learning so much about the equipment of WWII. That is awesome. The best part of this game is seeing a fast rolling MarkIV kill a Firefly at 1400m. Nice, very nice. 8. Were you using the new patch? I'm assuming you were. I had a bit of trouble on that senario with the Elite tiger crew. I seems like they noticed too much and were like infantry..no..no..carrier...hey look, light tank...even better some infantry there...ect.. ect.. Muhahaha, we are awesKABOOOOOOOOMMMM
9.
quote:
Originally posted by Commissar: It would seem that Soviet units in CM2 should be forced or restricted in some way to remain under effectual command of their platoon or company commanders. Killed leaders would result in all units under his command to most likely break or just simply stand there in confusion.

Hmm, that would assume that the average Russian soldier was an idiot and had no initiative at all. I think that the current system is adequate for modeling the different qualities of troops and commands that would be found on the eastern front. Granted the SS division in Russia seem to have been in a league of there own when compared to the Russian troopers. But head to head with the Wehrmacht(Sp?), they seemed to hold their own later in the war. And in fact became quite effective overall. Early war -Russian Green, Germans Reg and Vet Mid war- Russian Reg, Germans Vet/Crack/Elite End of war -Russians Vet, Germans Green/Reg Of course you would need to model some battles with the Germans outgunned 3 or 4 to 1. Hell, most of the battles were fought with the Germans outnumbered. Phandaal [This message has been edited by Phandaal (edited 06-25-2000).]
10. I got two buildings, a patch of woods, and a bunker with a German Halftrack Flamethrower. I forget it's designation. It was the highlight of my breakthrough. The line crumbled after the flamer showed up. Very Nice. Phandaal.
11. There shouldn't even be an option for no FOW in my opinion. phandaal.
12. The demo ran great, but those are small to medium sized egagement. On the huge ones, my video card started steaming, and my CPU was working overtime, and then more OT. Had to upgrade. I ordered a PIII450 (Can't afford better and the PII266 is showing it's age), and bought a TNT2 for $79. The video card didn't make that much of a difference compared to my Banshee. On the HUGE levels, there is just SO much going on it still scrolled choppy. The TNT2 does make the smoke look correct, a big improvement over the VoodooIIs smoke. It scrolls a bit better but even with 32 megs, my CM crashes with the Madmatt mod. Oh well. On those BIG senarios, it is overwhelming my poor machine. At least the 4 minutes to proccess a turn on some of the huge levels will decrease with the new CPU. I'll also see where the CPUs breaking point is. If I'm lucky I got a 500MHZ chip in reality. I'm hoping the PIII450 will help the Video Card max it's performance a bit. At least that is my hope. Phandaal
13. I was having a similar problem with CM. When the heavy artillery started to fall, I would get a beep, and then my machine would lock. It happened only after installing the Madmatt mods. When the mods were gone, CM was rock solid. I upgraded my video card to a TNT2, 32 megs, but it still locked up ocassionally. I'm gonna play around with the mods and determine which one is causing my problem. I might not install all of them. a-antto.
14. I tried CM with the v1.01 patch. No problems, couldn't get it to crash. When I tried it with the Madmatt mods. The artillery, Jabos dropping bombs, High res smoke, Trees full coverage did me in. I think my Card is running out of memmory like you said using those high res bmps. When I installed I noticed that the BMP were much bigger, sometimes 2 or 3 times the original. I guess it's time to buy a better card with 32megs RAM. Anyone have a GEFORCE II they want to sell cheap? LOL Thanks Charles. I'm 90% sure it is the high-res bmps. If your still interested I got this in Win98. DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff7a208. 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: but the Banshee is an older card and might have bugs in the driver. Can you send me the details? Like the hexadecimal code where it breaks, etc. Charles

Yes, I was thinking that it was probably the video card running out of memory. This problem cropped up when I was using the artillery. 3x81MM,2x250MM, 2x8Inchers, all at the same time. What I did was uninstall CM, and re-install just version 1.0 without the patch or Madmatt mods. No problems. I'm going to try the patch again on that level and see what happens. If the patch is not the problem then the only logical explanation is the Madmatt mod which seems unlikely becuase it is just BMPs/Wav files. I'll figure out what is causing this problem. It is either the v1.1 patch with my card, or the Madmatt mod. Thanks, Anthony
16. I'm getting an Unhandled Exception in Win98 and 2000 PRO when playing the senario Clash of Eagles. Anyone else have this problem? I run a PII, 128MB RAM, ASUS MB, Voodoo Banshee 16 megs of Ram, and Montego Sound Card. Phandaal.
17. Check this out out guys. For our European/Aussie friends a little story from the frontlines! Picture this, two sherman jumbos, city battle. Tiger comes prowling around a corner..fires...the shell bounces off my Vet Sherman's Turret. The Crew of the Tiger VIE was like "WAS IST LOS/WTF!! 88mm shell BOUNCES OFF A SHERMAN!!??". They didn't have long to wonder. Return fire...Catastrophic explosion...pieces of meat and metal are raining down. Mark VI peaks, pops smoke and the Jumbos go back to hammering those poor Krauts running around screaming. I still can't get those screams out of my head. When the smoke clears the Mark VI fires..Shell breaks up on the Turret of Vet Jumbo. The Mark VI tries to slink away between two buildings..doesn't make it..catastrophic explosion. Pieces of meat and metal rain down. Germans are getting worried. So. I have some infantry up in some woods and they ID'd another Tiger. I'm getting cocky now, Jumbos can go toe to toe with these tigers I'm thinking! So LETS GET IT ON! I send the Jumbos between some buildings to try to get some shots on the tigers flank which is outside of town about 200-250m. Before the Vet makes it... KABOOM...dead Jumbo. Now I'm like WTF. Oh I say..that tiger got em...wait a second..that isn't a tiget...OH ****..It's a KING TIGER! AHHHHHHH My troops on the hill mis-identified it. Thanks guys. The regular jumbo sherman is near a two story stone bulding and fires at the KT..richocet (Big surprise). "That armor is too thick for dem blasters" I'm thinking. KT fires...richocet...Hmmm. Now a Mark IV pokes out, fires...ricochet.Jumbo fires..Richocet of KT Turret...TK fires, track hit on the jumbo. Jumbo fires...Richocet. KT fires..Turret hit, shell richocets, internal armor flaking. Jumbo fires, of course richocet. KT fires richocet of something. Jumbo fires, Gun Hit... Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition. Mark IV pops smoke..reverses the hell outta there. Then proceeded 19..yes 19 richocets off the front of that god damn KT. The damn KT finally takes off and lesiurely drives past the Jumbo firing like crazy to kill that damn thing. The Mark IV comes looking for trouble, and the Jumbo has to hammer it 10 times with HE rounds before the crew bails. The tiger proceeds toward my infantry. hiding in the woods captured from the Germans. Not a smart idea for a declawed KT to go looking for trouble against bazookas, sachel charges, and RPGs. I think the AI was very desperate. It had no other way to drive my troops off those hills. A couple of bazooka shots and dead KT. Crew bails and is gunned before they get off their vehicle. I almost felt bad for the KT...a magnificient beast cut down. Its like seeing a real tiger dead. Something great destroyed. Anyway, better them than my boys.. AAR Allied Minor Victory. This was played blind. Ok.. lets move em out! Phandaal "Fire for Effect!"
18. Sorry about the spelling/grammer...It's late, and I typed really fast! Phandaal
19. Well, this was quite a fight. This senario really puts your computer to the test and the human player if playing blind for the first time.. I had some turns which took 5 minutes to process. I don't even know how to explain the horror of this battle. I guess the AAR will speak for itself. Allied artillery was devastating, and destroyed at lest 4 tanks, 10-12 halftranks, and numberous infantry. I'll always remember the 20 vehicles strew along that road of death. It delayed the Axis advace down the far left road long enough to allow the re-informents to arrive. Unfortunatley I lost 4 tanks in the first turn after there arrival. But, they pulled it off, and turned the tide. I lost an entire company down to the last man. Another eith 90% casualties, and the last with about 60%. It was a bloodbath. I've never seen so many KO'd vechicles. I also learned to respect the Churchill. Great tank, just a bit undergunned. Axis 623(123 KIA) 75 Vehicles KO'd (1 left operation at the end) 196 OK Utter Shock at being alive after this assualt. Allied 503 (146 KIA) 28 Vechicles KO'd, 4 Immobile, 1 operational. 7 mortars KO'd 192 OK Severe Survivors Guilt/PTSD It is appropriate to note that the last turn ended with the last remaining stug, facing down my last fully operational Churchill. Too bad about those Canadians fellers. Only 190 pulled through (and that is counting all the crews running around screaming). DAMN that was fun! Out Phandaal.
20. Yep, when I play as Axis, with FOG on, Senario defaults, ect.. there is only 1 british company, and 8 or 9 tanks. Is this a problem with just me, or can somebody verify this on their machine? Thanks, Phandaal
21. When playing Frist Clash at Cambes at the end of the game I had caused 291 causalties(77KIA), but when I looked at the map, there was only 1 company accounted for. I DID NOT destroy the other 2 companies. They never showed up in the senario. I tried to repeat with FOW Off to see if they would show up in the next game, they did. When I played as the British, they did again. I think maybe when you play as AXIS with FOG ON, it might not load the british. I'll go now and drive my tanks up there where they come in and see if they are there with FOW on. It might be a bug with this senario. But, like I said I'll post my results in a few mintues.
22. Don't be surprised if you went to Russia you could probably pick one up for $2000 if you have your Russian friends do the talking. Russians LOVE ripping off Americans. They think we can afford it. Granted, I don't know about the Tanks side of things, but if your American over there the prices triple. Out Phandaal.
23. Actually I have the rest of the week off! Good Times ARE HERE! Phandaal
24. Got, awesome...me...go...play...now!!! I pre-ordered about 3 weeks ago. Luckily I live in Dallas which is a major USPS hub! he he.. Late, Phandaal.
25. I saw a pic of a T-34 rolling through Berlin with a captured MP-40 straped to the turret. That would make a great bail out weapon for the tankers if they lost the tank. Out Phandaal
