2. i just hope , IF there is a european version that we are not forced to buy it... here in austria, we dont have the problem with symbols being forbidden, still, sharing the same language as our german neighbours, we allways get the shaft on localised versions this can be a PITA if distributors more or less enforce local versions
 3. this is beginning to look like some cheap facsimiles trying to impose a cesspool™-thread
 4. hmm.. now if that topic would read "Stop those IDIOTIC DEMAND IN SUBJECT LINE!!>:-( " that would open a whole new can of worms... generally speaking, simply ignore them (or, put them into the same bin as the tinfoil-hat guys.. you know the conspiracy theorists and doomsayers )
 5. Shhh... dont reveal our secret Austrian counterpart of the Hummer Just imagine the psychological effect if they storm damascus on Pinzgauers There you have your way of nonlethal combat... rofl can be quite disabling
 6. its allways the same when upgrading the rig... going t he value way and do several upgrades, or going high end and then having your gear degrade slowly through upperclass until it hits middle class where you have to upgrade (at least parts) again? personally i took the dive for some top notch gear, emptied my pockets so robbers would start to weep if they jump me then again, i need the processing power for work anyways, so that 4800+x2 was set in stone anyways.. just the gfx choice was a bit game oriented, but then, who would build a porsche, and then weld some wooden charriot weels to it? at least, now i know i cant do anything dumb anymore with that 2k€ anymore
 7. that thread made me rise from my lurking state again.. in my internet cafe we regularly have direct duels with cm.. started when i unpacked my fresh CMBO copy in the cafe and tried it out there... all sorts of people have fallen to the addiction over time.. and im sure, it will be the same for CM:SF... On a side note... will there be any posters or ad banners one could get? we allways got some free walls, and i like to get people addicted to games i like myself [edited in] and for the age, 28, the people i made addicted to CM varies widely from 16 - 60

 12. Hmm.. I am not very familiar with the tech details (I am even not an American... but I still like these behemoths of war) but I guess the defensive side always gains an advantage... (see the example with the 57mm flak...).. Sure, a BB can't survive long without a whole fleet protecting it... but don't tell me that carriers do.... on the other hand, a carriers main weapons are planes (which it has stocked only in limited amounts). Now, as shown above, plains (even invisible ones ) can be shot down rather easily... leaving the Carrier rather toothless... and I think that American public would revolt if the navy starts to send in waves after waves into an SAM cluttered area just to hit a vital target.... and every wannabe dictator could afford a decent AA-system. Maybe even buying it of America on the other hand, we have a battleship... it too needs the protection of a small armada... but it relies on 16" arties as its prime weapon... now... I am not sure, but I doubt that a 16" shell in transit can be intercepted at all... and if this can really be done... I doubt that anyone will waste a tear for the poor shell... So, my guess is that BBs are more effective when it comes to deliver destruction to a specific target that is well defended... Airplanes are just too fragile (and expensive in both resources and live costs). Another nice effect of the battleship has already been addressed quite often... it is simply a psychological weapon.... I would feel much more uncomfortable when being shelled at with this nasty big unstoppable (?) arty than being attacked by airplanes when I have a good chance of bringing them down before they can deliver their ordnance... well, just my 10 Groschen here (sorry, here in Austria we don't have Cents yet ) -- TargetDrone p.s.: Anybody can tell me where i can get decent info on the phalanx systems and other ways to counter missiles and Cruise Missiles?
 13. Well, it might be intended.. i don't know... I tried several times to play a QB on a Small map with 5000 points.... however, after purchasing my units, i always end on a medium sized map... Okok.. i know that it is highly lunatic to play a 5000er battle on a small map.... but hey.. if i can change the settings accordingly, i also want to play my little Rushhour-Slugfest ------------------ TargetDrone Commander of the Smiley Liberation Force

When you challenged me, I just turned towards my outlook express, and waited for your file to arrive, as I took the words from the mighty(?) and dreaded(?) Peng serious... Now, these days, with my fingers grown arthritic, my beard grown to the ground and spider webs all over my once clean (well.. always a matter of definition) working place, an idea emerged to my mind... Maybe, MrPeng was just venting hot air.... Now... I finally started moving again..(and belive me, that can be quite hard after you hold still for a month or two) and had a look at the battlefront forum... mayhap the AoP have been crushed, hit by a meteor, or maybe, their little hideout on their local garbage dump has finally been eradicated by introducing the new local incinerating plant. But what had I to discover... The thread has gone... After I finally was able to locate its remnants and reading through (now, that I call hard work) I discovered that the pestilence known as Peng still lurks somewhere around and that he hasn't been cleansed from this planets surface (maybe I should blame it on the trash collection) but instead he still throws up some words that he calls taunting... C'mon, you had plenty of time (I guess from page 12 on) to train... and still the above answer is the best you can do? And I have feared of being Penged once...HA! My grandma's mumbling without her dentures are more insulting then the weird piece of crap you call a post. Consider myself being more present on this board again, I won't make the mistake of waiting for a file from you again... (although, should it really arrive, it would be a pleasure to blast your bunch of suckers to oblivion (something someone should have done long ago )) You don't have to fear though, I won't be too hard with your men(?).... I will unload all my hatred and aggression on you, all the devastating thoughts my poor smileys had to suffer when you and others treated them bad still... although you seem to have grown somewhat attuned to them... in the old days you would have literally exploded if someone dared to even show one of them... now, I wouldn't be surprised even if you too would use them.. (who knows, mayhap time has turned the furious, but unsuccessful Peng into an old, burned out hulk, one that merely mutters some tauntings but got no clear sentence out of his toothless, malicious pit he once called a mouth. If this is the Case you should really think about your funeral (oh.... and I would even organize one for for you )... living on would be too much of an embarrassment I guess ) ------------------ TargetDrone Commander of the Smiley Liberation Force who will open an account to collect money for Pengs funeral on a sidenote... BTS does obviously support the AoP ... when trying to submit that post in the first run it was rejected due to too much images... that means i had to take some of my beloved smileys out... 20. Well well... there I am... I have been watching my Inbox for MONTH, but .... Nuthin'.... I mean... NUTHIN'!! Peng, you coward little bastard.... in the original Cesspit, somewhere on page 12, you challenged me.... I told you that I eagerly await your file.. so that I can humiliate your lame excuse for an army, also known as the AoP with my brave and glorious SLF!! Your cowardness is making me sick! Now, would you move your carcass and send me that file ASAP, as my force is already awaiting to blow your pile of sissies back to the cesspit where they belong ------------------ TargetDrone Commander of the Smiley Liberation Force
 21.
quote:
Sitting Duck wrote ... Hello Lewis- Great idea. Seems much more 'real world' than the HUNT command alone. What game mechanics would you propose for this move? By this I mean, how would you propose for a player to issue The Hull Down Move. From my understanding of the desired effect, it would need to consist of both a movement command (~HUNT) with waypoints and a target command (~AMBUSH). How would you accomplish this using the existing GUI? Lee

Well, Im not Lewis whom you asked, but I will try to explain how I understand this should work... you have this command (lets call it "Hulldown ambush") and now you have to draw a line of advance (basically the line on which the crew seeks for a hulldown position..). After you drawed the line you are expected to click on the point you wish to go hull down relative to. It is already possible to issue a move command and a target command to a tank at the same time if you like.. so this 2line command shouldn't be too much of a problem either i guess... ------------------ TargetDrone Commander of the Smiley Liberation Force who will fight for all Smilies' Rights!
 22. Hmm... I already wondered what happened to this thread (have been on vaccation for 3 weeks now....
quote:
BTS Charles wrote ... Busy here... I'm gonna have to make this brief... I see what Lewis is saying. I do think there are some problems with the idea of a Hull Down command though. Either you have one "target point" and then the vehicle has to move directly toward that point, hoping to find a hull-down position relative to it, but of course only right along that axis of movement (quite restrictive, and potentially disastrous if no hull-down location exists and the vehicle just keeps moving on and on), or allow two points to be designated: a movement target, and a hull-down-reference, so the vehicle moves toward the movement target, but looks for hull down relative to the 'reference' (this would 'work' but would be pretty awkward, and it would, IMO, make automatic something that personally I like to leave up to the skill of the player - spotting hull down positions). I'm not saying the current implementation is perfect. But I'm not sure I like the new idea either. I'm listening to what you guys say though. Charles

During my Time in Italy I met 2 TankVets (one TC and one Gunner) from Germany.... I couldnt resist but bring the matter to them... we had a lot of discussion, with the baseline being, that it is no problem for the TC and the Gunner to reach a HullDown position relative towards a point of interest... They explained to me that this was a rather simple task (of course, they were only hull down to that specific point, but that is exactly what I asked for the whole time...). They told me that the TC pointed out the exact target location to the Gunner, which told the Driver to reverse slowly back behind the ridge they have just passed... the moment he lost the target because the ridged showed up in his optics he told the driver to stop, and then advance slowly, until he was able to have a clear targetsight again.... he then commanded to stop and presto... they were in a good ambush situation.... they were then able to take out 3 tank that advanced on the road, with only the 3rd one even returning fire... and that shot hit the dirt in front of them.... so... if it is that easy like they told me, why am i not allowed to have this happen automatically.... (i guess Lewis suggestion about the 2line command where you have to point out the target reference and the maximal movement would fit in for this task nicely...) I mean...its a hell of a pain in the ass to find that position manually... especially if you are low on time to manouver around endlessly... and even if i know where i could obtain that position, getting my tank exacly there is another matter.... and i hate it if i have to spend 5 turns or more just to get that exact position... most of the time my tank is toast, long before it succeeded.... Sorry for cooking up this old thread, but for me that is a rather important matter... and I hope there are more out there that support this .... ------------------ TargetDrone who has a heart for smilies and will defend their rights .... even if the cost is bloody....
