Yeah V, I screwed up pretty bad =/ That plane is crazy! In the end I think I should have opened fire with my 50mm AT guns earlier, and sent my Pz's in en masse, and I should have ordered all tank crews to carry rabbit's feet... What remains to be seen now is whether my STuG can hold on with what I've got. Gotta admit I got lucky earlier in the game when you sent those T-26's in the village eh? One of my high points =D

Yeah I got you there with the Assault guns, but unfortunately mein freunde, one has already been taken out (by a crappy command decision on my part) the other is engaging as we speak, but can 1, or even 2 if I hadnt lost the other take out the morass of Soviet T-34s and a single KV???

****Warning possible spoilers on B&T's Forgotten Front***** Wow... well the battle continue to rages in my PBEM against Vinny... B&T's Forgotten Front (thanks B&T btw, excellent scenario) me as the Germans. With only 1 T-34 abandoned due to my 50mm defenses, and several light soviet tanks destroyed, things looked bad as there was still an unaccounted-for KV1 and lotsa T-34s. Then deliverance! the Panzers save the day! Or do they? In the next few turns, I manage to kill a few soviet tanks, but most shots richochet or shatter, and even penetrations dont do anything sometimes, meanwhile Pz III after Pz III is brewing up or bailing, and my wussy short gun 75mm Pz IV's are shooting smoke and getting waxed or just getting waxed! Now Im not saying this is unrealistic, and I dont want to get into another fricking debate about how the game is modelled etc etc etc I like it fine. What I do want is tactics, what the hell should I be doing as Germans with these tanks? Before you gimme the newbie answers like 'try for flank or rear shots' I already know this crap, I want to know some solid tactics (for any tank engagement actually) but specifically involved early war StuG IIIs, Pz IIIs, PZ IVs, with little room to maneuver and facing large amounts of Soviet armor. Any suggestions? p.s. if anybody wants me and vinny were discussing posting up an AAR on this clash of the titans...

Well guys... I think I figured it out sorta and I had a great first battle for June 22nd! I was wondering if you could add extra experience to a unit for a ridiculous amount of kills? My PZIV E got 50 infantry casualties! lol Anyways it all rolled up into a night battle, cool weather, meeting engagement, gentle hills, clear weather, rural with tree cover. ME with Soviets as mountain infantry, medium quality, unfit, 50% casualties, and 60% ammo. Inf mix =D I rolled up combined arms mix, Germ, inf division type, low quality =(, fit, no casualties, full ammo... then I ended up rolling 0 Infantry, =(, 0 vehicles =(, 150 armor... 150 arty, no large battle... so I got a 300 provisional force size and rounded it up to 700 (ok so far?) Battle ended in total victory Axis 143 ok, 5 casualties, 1 dead. Allied 112 ok, 219 casualties, 67 dead, 4 mortars gone =D =D 34 favor total! yay CO is gonna be kissing my ass! now I just gotta figure out replacements and the stuff about attached units and I think Ill be ready to roll...... Sublime would anyone like to see the three screenshots I took? After battle screen, final battle positions, and my Darth Vader PZ IV? hehe

Some real ultimate power Ninjas would be great cos I read this book and it said that the Germans had sum and thats why they kicked so much as at the beginning of the war, that and they were cool... and by cool I mean totally sweet. *terrain fog of war...? Wouldnt that be bad? more C&C like? I mean didnt most people fightin in Russia have a pretty good idea of the terrain features (especially russians??) Other places too... You know reconnaisance and whatnot are used in wars..

Well certainly the prescence of snipers would act as a supressive effect...? I noticed their ammo does go down, but not on a 1 for 1 bullet rate as in CMBO... which I like btw.. I dont know about all the time but when I played Lonely Country as Axis my sniper ran outta ammo after awhile...

ok heres the gory details : ordered on Feb 2nd Only CMBB first scenarios to try... first one I did was A Warm Place to Sleep.. very good IMO opinion A Deadly Affair was good but hard.. soo hard.. =( best one I've played today : Lonely Country (as Axis) I've only played one battle today as the commies and that was Defense of Hill 312... should have played as Germans though because it wasnt difficult at all to hold the hill and get a total victory... (poor fritzies..) 3-0-8 Where do you live? You ordered it Monday soo... It should be there 2 morrow or the next day or Saturday almost defnitely if you live on East Coast of the US like me... same question for you Geoman... also the pack may take longer to ship..?

Aaron, you make a good point about ammo expenditure for the whole squad when only the lmg fires; though I dont see your point about the 'main advantage of 1:1 being you have more than one guy manning your 88' It's depicted as one person in CM but there are still 4-6-8 guys there on all the gun teams, etc...? I dont know.. ignore this if I completely missed what you intended to say?

Actually coe that might be pretty cool. I wanna see the rest of the war modelled of course, but a 'what-if' with the Western Allies vs our Comrades in the east with maybe a few battered German formations thrown in the for the west would be very cool to be done in CM form by battlefront... =D 'WW3 1945'

Biltong- I think that this campaign idea is one of the best to ever come out of the CM community and Im glad I checked out your posts =D Also the opportunity you're giving everyone is great, and I love the scope of what you're offering... I downloaded everything at the site, and read the instructions - But at risk of sounding like a complete and total ass (that may not be too far off...) I only vaguely understand the rules, have only the foggiest idea of how to set up the spreadsheets, have no idea where to find the die, and am utterly confused. Is there another set of intstructions or could you help me out somehow? Ill read em again, and I appreciate the help... Lol... Im hoping the above post is a joke. No its gotta be... It's really gotta be. If it isnt... well Allies won many battles in WW2, but a lot of the more important battles they won aren't covered in CMBB (Air war over Europe, Battle of the Atlantic) Also unless you're joking you must be an idiot, because if you'd look at it, CMBB models tactical warfare, where indeed a good portion of the time Germans did end up victorious. But then again, only rarely will tactical victories win an entire campaign. Allies may have lost a lot of tactical battles even towards the end of the war, but the ability to shoot in fresh troops (while the Germans couldnt) or other events made tactical victories worthless in the long run. So yeah, the Germans could win a lot of tactical victories but lose the operation or campaign and it wouldn't matter. IIRC reading Beevor's book on the Battle of Berlin, the Russians took what like 3-600,000 casualties, while the Germans took about 100,000 casualties. ( MILITARY ) So this would indicate that on the tactical level German troops were killin off lots off Ruskie's at the END OF THE WAR but it didnt matter, because the Russians could send in more and the war was lost anyways. Anyways just my thoughts and whatnot, Im not saying whether or not Germans or Russians should win more or less, rather that CMBB is NOT unrealistic, nor is CMBO, at least compared to other games, and is more realistic than anything thats been made before. Also to claim its unrealistic because you lose is ridiculous because quite simply you could just suck at playing....

Hmm... Yes I agree, as far as they didn't really have close air support with a forward observer directing strikes in WW2, especially not on the Eastern Front. I knew about the swastikas on the tanks, but the Soviets painted crosses on their tanks late in the war? Interesting, crosses as a sign of recognition for their own planes...? Or was it to confuse Germans?

yay! thanks for all the help! i cant wait to get into some Stalingrad fighting... And Berlin too... I hope they got a few battles in both. I really wanna get my hands on that Pavlov's house scenario, as I've heard of it in books I've read, and plus all the posts on it. Thanks for all the help anyways guys
