  1. I know bounding overwatch was used by the Germans in WWII. It was adopted by the US Army in about 1973-74.

    oh-58

The Apache does indeed support indirect targeting. Any of the OH-58D, AH-64A or D, or any ground laser designator can do it. The Copperhead of course uses a similar set up for its lasing. Whats more, the OH-58 and FIST-V can lase for air force munitions so long as they know the right code. I am sure the AH-64 can as well. The D can pop up, acquire its targets, sink back down, transmit the targets to all other AH-64A or D, and all can fire their radar guided missiles for up to 10 - 15 seconds after the radar look and still have a high Ph. The OH-58D does not have a radar, only the AH-64D, not yet in wide service. The way you would model this in TACOPS, I suppose would be to bring the thing stationary behind a treeline (or in trees) and let it hover, then give it LOS as for NOE, but with a very low (say .05) target exposure. There is a Dazzler prototype that was offered to the 1st ID in Desert Storm. It was mounted on a Bradley and detected then blinded any optical sights in its range. It probably also blinded anyone looking through said sight. We didn't use it and it is still only a prototype/experimental device. 3. The M60A1 has had stabilization since I was a platoon leader - 1976. The M60A3 should have better to hit numbers because of its digital fire control, which makes the stabilization better, but the machinery on the A3 was the same as the A1, except for the digital stuff and the Thermals. (which were wonderful. I actually like the A3 thermals better than the M1's, becaue it is a three inch "TV" rather than something you have to put your eye up to. The Marines fielded an M60A3 with reactive armor in the Gulf. They are only installed when you need them, though, and are not typically installed for training. Same with the Bradley.

    Attrition

The OPFOR will usually call off an attack when the force ratio is no longer favorable, this means about 2:1 and they will temporarily halt till they can bring up more forces. Another measure is they will stop when attritted to 50%. For the US it is much harder to say. We tend to go down to nothing in training and simulation (at least until a few years ago). I would think if you get beat below 75% you have lost, regardless of victory conditions.
