Im going to recreate the last battle in Saving Private Ryan. Bridge as the VL. Ive got a good fix on the order of battle, but Im gonna have to watch it a few times to get the terrain correct. Think you can stop the hoard with an understregthed airborne company?

I bought a "surplus" pineapple grenade from the Army surplus store when I was a kid. (a hole had been cut in the bottom so it couldnt be repacked). Id go into the field behind my house and practice hurling that bastard all day. 2 or 3 hundred feet tops, but i was only 12 or 13 then. It definitly could throw your arm out if you were overly zealous with it. And my first few definitly were.

Go rent Saving Private Ryan again. Make sure your surround sound is cranked all the way up. Its the only movie that had me "suppressed" in my seat.

Ok, just got off shift, Ill throw my 2 cents in. What Bullethead said. Granted buildings burn faster nowadays because of the synthetic materials used in furnishings/carpets. But your still looking at only 2-3 minutes of survivability in a structure 50 years ago.

Ive heard talk of mods floating around already, and nothing kills a good MP game faster than the incompatbility issues that arise from user hacked mods. This game is sweet as is, and short of maybe minor graphic improvements, or improved sounds, I will no be the whoremonger that defiles the sacred CM code. Playing VT the other day, I pounded an Arty piece until the crew abandond the gun. I lifted my fire, and 1 or 2 turns later, the crew had rallied remanned the gun. Boy was I shocked when those rounds started coming in again (after Id begun an advance in the open). Man I dunno. Ive been playing SP3 lately, and on "Heartbreak Ridge", which should be a terribly tough battle as USA, I annihilated the commies. Overran them actualy. The casualty ratio was better than 4:1, my favor, whereas it should have been the other way around. Something is wrong with the game mechanics, but I cant put my finger on it. Dont know knock smilys until youve tried it. For the uninitiated, grab yourself a plane ticket to Olongapo City, Phillipines (or in my case a slow boat), and make your way to Mk Sai Sai street. In any of the respectable establishments there youll find the finest in southeast Asian beer, and the best looking girls from the local populace. You and all your friends (you did remember plane tickets for your pals didnt ya?) gather round the largest table in the pub, and the pretty girls in the corner all go under the table. I made a Molotov when I was a kid, and threw it out into a local field. Kabloowee! Its not an ideal infantry weapon though, who wants to lug around glass jars of heavy volatile liquid? I think the Russians were doing some serious improvising.

Think about the amount of tracer fire coming from 1 Heavy Cruiser, with each gun turret (with its armor values) modeled, smaller caliber weapons like .50s, 40mm Bofors AA guns (with the crews manning them visible on the deck(ie AT guns in CM)), 5" and 8" secondary guns midship....splitting shell shrapnel wiping out crew men on deck. Armor and penetration values modeled through the length of the ship just like a tank. By the way, the game that got me in the most trouble was Third Reich. After 3 days on the kitchen table (right in the middle of my opening moves for barbarosa) my old man hurled it into the other room.
