I am sitting here at work, thinking for sure that the package had hit my home in Arlington, VA and now I read this. I am sure my mail is on the same time table as yours is ARCHANGEL. Thanks for the update, despite its bad indication.

JB, I hope for your sake that you aren't even remotely tied in to the system here in Old Town. I wasn't kidding about the Priority mail problems here...I could go on for several paragraphs about how bad even routine mail was...new Postmaster has made some serious improvemnts. But the Priority stuff is still obviously askew when a 2-3 day package hasn't arrived in five days. I also wasn't kidding (in another thread) when I said I had called the Postmaster about it...(we actually are friends), and he had a search made today for CM and another Priority Mail package that I have missing... with no happy result (obviously) With luck it will all show up tomorrow...(Archangel runs to fetch rabbits foot among other totems to fate and fortune)
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Carentan: Thanks USPS... thanks for nothing.

Carentan, If it will make you feel better, NoVA was a wash today too, at least in Old Town Alexandria ...what is worse, over the past few years I have had Priority Mail be up to FOUR weeks late...(truth!)on a regular basis. I have switched to FedEx for all client stuff. Mine comes in to Dulles...I wonder if yours goes to BWI...?!?! Like you, I am looking forward to clearing the "causway" with the One-Oh-One. 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Capt. Manieri: Oh boy....it better show up here today, or I'll kick my mailman's ass.

Or better yet, he will mace you and you will have time to study for the NEXT Regents exam.
 4. KOP, Going back to VOT, which I assume most of us have tried by now, you learn to attack a Panther from the side or rear, as previously stated. I even had a bazooka take the Panther out in two games, employing flank or rear shots... it was a thing of beauty to behold that lone 'zook jock, sitting in the woods on the hill when the Panther showed up and began to move for kills on Shermas that were on his flank...The Panther got one Sherman and damaged the other as the 'zook man slowly and methodically lined up a perfect shot at the Panthers side and blew him up!!! (Frankly, I was a bit stunned, but so happy I was ready to send the gunner home on a War Bond tour with a Silver Star or DSC and Betty Grable to keep him company.) Anyway...NEVER fight face to face when you can fight on an enemy's flank...from fire teams to Field Army's.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by AD: And didn't one of those Duck-tour thingies in Alabama or Missisippi sink with a load of tourists on board a year or so ago? Those things are on the GW Parkway? Man, another reason to stay off that road.

AD, Yes! One DID sink in Arkansas or somewhere. Funny thing, after I posted about this earlier, I ended up behind it going into National Airport...I failed to mention that it has a blue awning on top to keep our frequently merciless sun off the tourists. The GWP isn't that bad. I go in and out on it a few times a day with few problems... (Now that I have said that I will be in some sort of traffic hell on the morrow... 6. H.I., I am in total agreement with you and with the sentiment...I was giving thought to going up to Aberdeen and "borrowing" the Atomic Cannon they have...but a Sherman would suffice....(Archangel drifts off, envisioning the slow painful death of all those involved in the Priority Mail system....)
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Herr Oberst: Now THAT would take care of my commuting problems around the Washington DC area... Give me a few years. Soon as I make my first million, I'll spend 35K on a tank. Then go meet up with the Gespenterdivision re-enactment group out in Ashburn.

Sine you live out at Ashburn you may not have seen the DUCK that runs up and down the GW Parkway (Old Town to Memorial Bridge) with tourists. It makes a trip up and down the Potomac then gets on the Pky...naturally, all of us who drive the Pky give it a wide berth...it seems to go about 45 mph and is about twice as high as a car, even an SUV. The one I keep seeing is painted white. The funny part is that it seems to make an actual and sizable "splash" when it hist the water, so the tourists riding in it are frequently wet...
 8. In LD I had an American rifle squad (on my order) attack a Stug and knock it out...with no losses. It was a thing of beauty to behold.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Bullethead: Archfiend said: You'll be sorry you said that if I ever go berserk like many folks predict I will. Hope you all have better luck.

Bull, Actually, I thought it up and Rookie, being closer to New England, implimented. Got that poster framed yet???

Decide that I/we are too Pavlovian. 14:50...what was that?? Was it the outer doors?? DAMN!! it WAS...RUN to the hall, down three flights of stairs, stumbling and tripping and knocking a work project that was near the landing on a table off and scatter three weeks of work all over the place...(to hell with it!)...continue on to front door....Mail delivery individual has left...nothing thru the mail slot of consequence (Merrill-Lynch?? Manulife Financial?? Who gives a damn?!)...bang open the doors...look for package...NADA!!!...turn on outside light...(cloudy day, I might have missed it)...NADA!!!...run to outer courtyard doors and throw them open with reckless abandon...(sweating now, heart beating like a kid on his first date)...maybe the mail idiot is new and didn't put the package inside the outer doors...rush onto the sidewalk...knock over an old women in a wheelchair..."Out of my way"...I screech...I look furtively for my package...it isn't there...I interrogate the now pleading woman..."Did you take my package?" 12. Bull, Actually, Rookie and I arranged to have your copy sent via fourth class mail...it will arrive in August... Enjoy the poster, Bro...
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Capt. Manieri: I wish i had a copy to tell you about. I'll fill you in as soon as I get it.

Gee Capt, one of your neighbors got it, wonder why you didn't...!?!?!
 14. You might also check with the 101St Airborne Assn, which is located in Clarksville, TN/Hopkinsville, KY...they would probably know.
 15. FIXED !!!!! I want to thank all of you for your kind assistance in resolving my problem. I truly appreciate the help. Schrullenhaft was right...it was simple...and dumb as hell on my part...the cable he mentioned was not hooked back up... I spoke to Rookie via phone and he talked (computer semi-literate) me thru the reattaching (in the correct places and order) and I now have CM and all the others back in operation. (WHEW!) The thought of having Cm arrive and NOT being able to play it until a new computer was procured, was nearly tooooooo much to comtemplate... Thanks Again, Lads...see you on the beach... 16. Here I am, one or two days before the final CM arrives in my mailbox, and I cannot even play the beta or the Gold or ANY %*#^$@$ game or sim on my rig. They all load up, but I get the famed black screen with moving cursor and, in the Gold, the cannonade and bird sounds. (GRRRRR!!) There was a power surge here the other night. My surge-capable plugs held up pretty well, tho I just replaced them after the surge cuz they seem to have been damaged. Anyway..I took my rig to Computer Renaissance to be sure it was ok and it was seemingly without damage. We didn't (stupidly) check CM et al, just the basic systems. It wasn't until I got home that the inability to play CM, EAW,RB2 and MA became evident. I have a Dell XPS D300, 128 RAM, STB 128 sound card, 9 gig HD, Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo 2, W95 with Office 2000. THe office 2k was just added yesterday. I am forming a suspicion that O2K may be the culprit here. I got Direct X 7 drivers reloaded...on the Creative page I cannot find ANY Voodoo 2 drivers...they don't seem to go back that far...even a keyword search turned up nothing on Voodoo 2. I did a "black screen" search and looked at most of the 49 threads that were loacted...I did what was recommended and I am still suffering from black screen... I need help here, or I will be absolutey dejected if CM arrives on the morrow and I am unable to employ it....
 17. NO !! Radio's DON'T always work regardless of combat or weather conditions. They are like cell phones..they can be disturbed by terrain, sunspots, storms, etc.
 18. M, I could have sworn I saw two airbursts in VOT...105mm... over Plomville during a little pre-assault shelling of the place. I was surprised...but there they were.
 19. There ya go... ...having a great deal of experience with FOUR-DUCE when it was out of the chem bns and into the Inf bn's, I would LOVE to see some FOUR-DUCE support...YEA TEAM!!!!
 20. Many Division Associations have tours back there every June. I would assume they might welcome "friends" who want to come along... Three of the Associations with which I have been affiliated have a "friends" catagory of membership for historians and other supporters. Decide which outfit grabs you and find them online.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Elvis: Along the same lines....I will be in Italy from 18 June to 28 June. If anyone on this board lives in Italy could you please email me. I would love to discuss "must see places". My wife and I are planning to do the same type of trip we took to France...ie. .Rent a car and drive with no set place to stay or visit. P.S. I would assume I have played some CM before I go.

Elvis, ANZIO !!! Anzio will give you a wonderful idea of what "high ground" means. So will MONTE CASSINO. The 36th (I think) Inf Div (US, from Texas) was sent across the Rapido River which flows serenely thru the Liri Valley below Monte Cassino. I stood on those banks and looked up at the mountian and shuddered with the thought of all that fire that rained down on those guys. (And I had already been in combat for a few years). It is amazing...but it is also picturesque. I also visited many of the Roman era ruins ( a special hobby of mine) If you want to keep your wife happy, go to Venice, stay on the Canal (at least one night), and be romantic...hopefully THAT will make up for the war stuff...

Thanks, Epée

Mortars and arty can also damage the tracks on a tank, thereby limiting it's mobility. Arty does it better but mortars can do it as well.
